It was a beautiful sunny day yesterday... one of those days that make you want to seek out the simple joys in life. I'd been meaning to try Zanze's for years, being a huge cheesecake fan and having read great things. I was indulging in one of those ""take it as it comes"" afternoons, and decided to venture on over at long last. The shop itself is pure and simple... they sell about 4 flavors of cheesecakes and cherries for topping. That's it. Don't go expecting fancy display cases. But do go expecting some of the best cheesecake you will ever have and the most friendly, wonderful greeting. The instant you start talking, you realize why word of mouth has built such a cult following for Zanze's. When I asked, the gentleman said this month is their 28 year (I hope I remembered the exact number correctly!) anniversary of being in business. All those years selling one phenomenally good thing to people who adore it. Now that's a good life. And when you bite into the cheesecake, you can understand why. Some people don't like cheesecake. I think they've been subjected to gummy, heavy cakes and soggy crusts. Zanze's is a whole different experience. It's feather light, melts in your mouth, and has no crust except a light sprinkling of crumbs on top. I ate mine with a few cherries and left it at that. Another charming touch is that they tape a bit of fishing wire on the top of each box, and you use that to cut your cake. They will explain exactly how, so that you can have the best possible pieces. The hours are a bit limited since it is such a family-run operation, but when you find a spare window of time to follow a whim, I'd highly recommend checking if they are open and heading on over.
Pros: Amazing cheesecake, services so wonderful you'll feel like family
