Sunday morning may have been a bad time to go, we had to wait over an hour. The wait was worth it. I had a NOVA (nova-scotia salmon) on a bagle w/ all the trimmings $8.95, well wo...

They did not remember extra dressing I requested. They did not put mustard on my sandwich I requested. The meat was dry. I will not order again. more

Matzoh Ball soup. Really good. Pastrami is just ok. They need to step that up. That should be the staple of a place like that. more

Editorial review from GrubHub 10/8/2013

I purchased the pastrami sandwich on rye. It was really dry and the meat was hanging off of the bread I couldn't fix it because the minuscule pieces of cheese were melted and stuck together. Needless to say I ended up holding the sandwich by the meat instead of the bread. The delivery person was rude and bullied me into tipping her although I paid six dollars for delivery! and to top it all of there was a hair in my plate!!! disgusting and I will never order from this place again!!!! more

Pretty good. The Matzo Ball soup was a little sweet but filling and satisfying on a cold Boston night. The Cesar salad okay, but the dressing was odd (not a Cesar dressing but an odd mayonnaise like concoction). The Essex sandwich was good, especially with the added swiss cheese. The fries it came with were cold by the time they arrived, but when thrown in the oven for five minutes they heated and crisped up just fine. The delivery fee is a bit steep so I don't know if I will order again if I don't have a grub hub credit, but the cold weather may make me order the soup again. more

one of my favorites 9/7/2010

This place is unbelievable and has such a wierd menu. I love it though. The decor and staff uniforms are funny. The food comes in generous portions and is delicious. Instead of having bread before your food, they bring you bagel chips and a yummy dip. The noodle kugel and mac&cheese are both to die for. The menu is so varied that you can get breakfast, lunch, and dinner at any time. more

Midweek Secret...weekend headache! 7/28/2010

Yeah, it's good and they keep your coffee cup filled. Good Knishes, potato pancakes, lots of good breakfast stuff. It's not a fun wait on the weekends. Don't wait for it, just figure out a way to go mid week. We all have "more time" on the weekend, but don't waste it on the sidewalk. They're too busy. Pros: food-wall art-waitstaff Cons: waiting in line on the sidewalk (weekends only) more

Overrated and overpriced 5/24/2010

I'm sorry, but I just don't understand all the good reviews. I'm from NY, and most of the deli food I've tried here just doesn't cut it. How can you serve a pastrami sandwich on such lousy rye bread? Some of the other items -- tuna nicoise salad, for example -- are excellent....but I would never go here for authentic NY-style deli. Pros: location, convenience, nice feel to the place Cons: variable quality, high prices more

Pretty good 3/19/2010

Good place. There's usually a long wait, though. It's not a kosher deli, but it has some very good options. more

Breaks your diet and your wallet. 3/3/2010

Up front, I'll admit that this deserves a more complete review. I just need to vent. Pros: Jewish deli in Brookline, bagel chips Cons: costly, crowded, uninspired, overhyped more

good but inconsistent 2/22/2010

I?ve been to Zaftigs many times ? so, its not so bad that I avoid it. The Israeli Couscous Salad salad is delicious and their fries are pretty good. My friends like the cheesy fries with gravy?it grosses me out but it doesn?t last long when they order it. The Potato Pancakes are also a favorite with my friends, but they are too heavy for me. I?m not opposed to heavy foods, I just don?t like greasy things. The sandwiches are good and I like their chicken bbq sandwich a lot. Other than that?this place is just okay. It?s usually busy so the wait staff work hard and sometimes cant smile, which is okay with me?especially when I?m specific about wanting 5 napkins. I want the couscous salad now?. Pros: creative salads Cons: price, cupcakes are meh or stale more

Overrated 1/13/2010

OK. I'll disclamor that I'm biased against Zaftigs having lived in NYC and being a huge fan of NY style delis (adore Katz's deli) . Food at Zaftigs is average at best. Michael's, also in Brookline actually tries to be authentic without offering every quasi jewish food under the sky. Seriously, this is where less is more. On last visit, the place felt like a machine turned food, that honestly Friday's or Joe's could have done better with little training. Pros: Breakfast, Location Cons: Brunch, The wait/lines, average food more

Zaftigs Delicatessen is very good 10/8/2009

I love Zaftigs, i LIke the scene, is cozy and easy for children. Their menu is varied and their breakfast is delicious. It gives a good option for families with kids. Good price, but to get in on a Sunday Morning. more

Zaftig's is good 9/25/2009

Depends on what you order 3/11/2009

The atmosphere is fun and funky. If you go when it's not too crowded, it's nice to sit by the window and watch the hubbub of Coolidge Corner. I've had some very disappointing things here--all the soups, roast turkey sandwich, and some that are good (any breakfast items especially stuffed french toast and home fries). Coffee is weak. Huge servings. Good egg salad. Pros: Chocolate french toast, fish and chips Cons: All soups are disgustingly salty, service can be mixed more

Delicious food. 12/3/2008

I have been to Zaftigs few times with my friends. Food is delicious. Breakfast portions are very big. This place is always packed, so be ready to wait in a line. more

Nice Nosh 11/19/2008

Good sandwichs, good brunch. Went with the extended family and had a good time, something for everyone from the little kids to all of the grown ups. We'll be back for the next reunion lunch. more

Amazing Breakfast!! 10/27/2008

This place is unbelievable! The food is delicious and the atmosphere fun. The staff was wonderful and never let your coffee cup go empty. \r \r Make sure you plan your trip, as the lines get fairly long. more

On any morning 9/23/2008

We've been to Zaftig's for breakfast and we loved the food. We waited a bit but when we go our turn it was really worthy. We would wait more if we have to! One of the best breakfast places to go. I recomend more
