My daughter and I have trained with USSD for 3 years. She started in the kids class and has since moved on the to young adults class. We have both enjoyed our time. We get a great workout and learn effective,usable self defense techniques. My daughter has built her character and her confidence both of which show throughout her daily life. In addition we have both developed strong friendships with the other students. Pros: Great instructors, friendly atmosphere, wonderful workout Cons: none! more

I signed up about 4 months ago. I had been telling my wife i wanted to do something with martial arts and she found this dojo. I went for a free trial and loved it. Sometimes i have to change my times for private lessons and Sensei is more than receptive about rescheduling. I have a very detailed personailty. Basically, I like to ask a lot of questions. All of the instructors are more than happy to answer them. Even on the days that i am having a bad day, I love going there. The atmosphere with the team and instructors is very uplifting.\r One thing me and my wife were really impressed with is that there are people with physical disorders that are participating in karate. They say that karate has really helped them mentally and physically. Sensei really works with them. To us, It really says something about him and the team. I transferred to this school from another USSD school, which I liked and was very impressed with. I really wanted to think highly of the Aurora school, too, and it took me too long to realize that I was getting a bum deal. Whenever I asked about my training, I was fobbed off. Whenever I asked about what I was missing or why I wasn't advancing or what specifically I should work on, I was fobbed off, although I noticed other students could ask straight questions of the sensei and get straight answers. I didn't even get personal attention in my half hour private lessons. The sensei would tell me to practice something, then leave the room for 20 minutes. Once I was sitting there waiting, and he forgot about my lesson entirely. I was a senior rank, but wasn't allowed to train with people of my rank, just with white and yellow belts. I finally quit, and I'll never go back. This has put me off martial arts for good. Pros: Convenient location Cons: No personal attention, plays favorites, way too expensive more
