Cupcakes to travel for 7/9/2007

I have never tasted cupcakes that so fully combine sublime texture with creative and extraordiarily delicious flavor combinations. This is one stop I will always make when visiting Los Angeles. more

My love for cupcakes is reborn! 7/7/2007

I'm a kid again! Not a big dessert fan but this has me wearing icing on my face. The cupcakes are moist and filled with flavor. I'm still working my way through the menu but tend to get stuck on the fabulousness of the Pbutter/Chocolate, Red Velvet, Pbutter/Jelly. I keep looking for Opie in this Mayberry like shop. You will not be dissappointed! (Unless I get there before you and clear out the place.) more

They really are Yummy cupcakes! 4/24/2007

Sometimes you need a cupcake, and this is a great place to go. They have quite a selection to choose from, they have there set menu, with chocolate on chocolate (never a bad choice), chocolate on white, white on white, white on chocolate, and several others, and then they have 4 flavors of the day....let me tell you that my favorite is Blood-Orange, and the Arnold Palmer. They are great. All the cupcakes I have had have been moist, and the frosting delicious. I recommend looking at their menu online..and going on days that the specials sound really good to you. Pros: Easy to find, and easy parking, open late for a Bakery, constatnly baking fresh batches Cons: It can get a little pricey since each cupcake is about $2.50-$3.00 more

the perfect way to treat yourself after a long week at work. 4/9/2007

i love these cupcakes! my favorite is the brown sugar cinnamon. The best part about is the slightly crunchy outside edge of the cupcake.\r i love all the cupcakes with vanilla frosting/cake.\r they go slightly heavy on the frosting but thats what makes it so delicious and fun.\r \r i'd definately recommend this place if your on the hunt for a simple and satisfying cupcake. Pros: delicious, pretty to look at, cupcakes nicely organized to make selecting easier. Cons: they close at 5 pm on sundays..... sometimes you want a cupcake for dinner :) more

What's with the frosting glue? 4/7/2007

I like to consider myself a cupcake expert....being 7 months pregnant and on the prowl for the best cupcake in california. And I gotta say, for the hype...Yummy's wasn't that great. The service was alright, the ambience ok...if you like the merchandise thumbtacked to a wall....but hey if the cupcake is good I can forgive...and....it wasn't. I had their specialty signiture yummy cake which was eah...alright, I tasted my husbands vanilla which was lacking, and the red velvet, nothing to write home about. The thing that annoyed me the most...that leda's does as well is the the ""frosting glue"" that keeps the cupcakes from sliding in the box....it makes it messy to pick up and eat in the car smearing frosting all over the hand..and well....I don't know it just wasn't that great. Violet's in Pasedena is better. more

Excellent, homemade flavor! 3/8/2007

My niece was in town to celebrate her birthday so instead of a cake, I suggested we get cupcakes. I heard from a co-worker how good the cupcakes are, so we went. We were NOT disappointed. Coming from a southern/soul food-type cooking background, my first bite into Happy Day was HEAVENLY. The icing is like eating fresh cream and fresh butter... the cake tasted like a pound cake made by someone's grandmother from down south. It was phenomenal. We started slowly, with only six cupcakes-- Peach Cobbler, Yummy Cupcake, Banana Cream Pie, Happy Day, Vanilla/Vanilla, and Chocolate Vanilla-- ALL yummy. There are SO many flavors and it'll take a while to get through them all, but I'm willing to try. :-) Pros: Great homemade taste and LOTS of variety Cons: The minimum order requirement for non-menu items. Although I understand why it's necessary, if I had my way, I'd be able to order one of each flavor, any time I wanted. :-) more

The name says it all! 3/6/2007

After visiting a different cupcake place, I had to come back to review YC, because I've NEVER tasted better cupcakes! I haven't tried something there that I didn't like (and trust me, I've tried a LOT of their flavors, just ask my waistline!) and the Red Velvet is TO DIE FOR! The frosting is light and creamy, and has just the right touch of cream cheese flavor. The frosting on ALL of their cupcakes is delicious, and the cake itself is moist and delicious.\r \r The name really says it all: YUMMY Cupcakes!!! Pros: Easy parking, top-notch cupcakes, quick and friendly service more

Simply the best & I've tried many in LA area 1/25/2007

The flavors of these cupcakes are exceptional...so many inventive & interesting flavors. They taste like the best mini cake you've ever tasted. I almost wish they would start making cakes as well, although just the cupcakes are soooo satisfying. They never fail to please. I'm a fan that has yet tasted anything better. Addicted to the frosting. How people complain that its too sweet...I don't get...its a cupcake...don't eat cupcakes if you don't like things sweet; eat cream puffs instead. In comparison to YC, Violet's has a lighter texture, less sweet (for all those that complain about YC), smaller cupcake and less variety of flavors. Delilah's in Echo Park are pretty good in comparison (esp. the Red Velevt) but very few choices & no oooo's and aaaah's after a bite. Sprinkles - overrated as many have said. I have bought YC for friends & family and all are very happy with them, never a complaint. Pros: The product itself Cons: Hours in Burbank...wish it could be like Santa Monica store. more

Best Cupcakes Ever - Similar to Magnolia's ( in NY), and the rest of LA can't compete! 11/27/2006

I've traveled for a living and have had a chance to try several cupcakes around the state and country (and have a 3 year old and hubby with a sweet tooth) - Yummy cupcakes beats them all! It's no accident the other LA cupcake shops have now started carrying similar flavors - of course, never as good!! \r \r They have a great variety of flavors; If you're a fan of lemon cake their lemon tart is to die for. If you crave that old southern taste, try their Red Velvet - it's truly a taste of heaven! If chocolate is your food of choice, the old school ( a la hostess cupcake - but with chocolate ganache & fresh whipped cream), truffle, chocolate ganache, and malt cupcakes will knock your socks off. Of course, their martini line is always a triumph at my dinner parties - my friends actually fight over the margarita cupcakes.\r \r For those who think they're too expensive, all I have to say is who stocks 80 baking ingredients in their pantry, want to spend hours whipping cream, making frosting and cupcakes from scratch (all their ingredients are visible - no boxes here), and then spend 1/2 an hour cleaning a dirty kitchen - I'll gladly pay the $2.50 - it's a deal for a beautiful and great tasting cupcake! Pros: Great flavors, Service, and ambience Cons: Still waiting for seating outside. more

Fantastic!!!!! 11/26/2006

You just can't beat these cupcakes! The perfect endulgent snack to perk up your day!! The shop has a very positive energy and the cupcakes are delicious!! more

mmmmm... delicious! 11/25/2006

Mmmmmmm... that's what comes out of my mouth when I taste these cupcakes. I must say the red velvet is one of their best. I would recommend this place to my friends, family and to anyone that loves cupcakes. Pros: Cupcakes are baked daily Cons: N/A more

Mediocre Cupcakes 11/21/2006

I was disappointed after having cupcakes at Yummy Cupcakes. Though they have a vast selection, the cakes were dry. Luckily, the frosting is really nice and buttery and fluffy, making it easier to swallow the cake. Pros: Good frosting Cons: Dry cupcakes more

great spot for cupcakes in the valley 11/21/2006

This place has the largest selection of cupcakes I've seen in the valley. They have over 30 different kinds, with about 8 offered daily and 4 specials. Others are available for pre-order with a 2 dozen minimum. When you go into this place, you'll feel like a kid again. Great red velvet cupcakes! more

Just ok...I've had better homemade. 11/4/2006

I loved the Red Velvet. It's the only one of the bunch I tried I actually love. The cake texture of most reminds me more of a muffin than a cake. And so many of them seem to have one flavor in the cake, and another flavor in the icing. I like my flavors to blend a little more, especially since I only like icing in moderation...it's almost always too sweet. I've only started my cupcake explorations, so I can't compare these to Sprinkles or Auntie Em's. But I grew up with homemade from scratch cupcakes...really moist cake and a dash of sweet icing, and this just didn't live up to my expectations. Pros: Easy parking, short or no wait, colorful cupcakes Cons: Muffin-like texture, too sweet/too much icing, flavors not mixed enough more

Wedding fun 10/2/2006

We love Yummy Cupcakes. We had their cupcakes at our wedding instead of a traditional wedding cake, and people LOVED them!! The red velvet is to die for. more

So delish, they catered my wedding 9/16/2006

Yummy cupcakes creates such delicious cupcakes that I ordered them for my wedding in leiu of a traditional wedding cake. They really made my wedding special... my guests are STILL raving about how fantastic the cupcakes tasted! The red velvet is hands down the best I've ever tasted. The mojito, happy day, and chocolate fudge (to name a few) are my favorites as well. The owners are super helpful and friendly and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I would highly recommend YC for ""just a treat"" or for special events. Pros: Flavor selection, friendly staff, freshness Cons: trying to decide which cupcakes you want more

The Name Says It All! 9/11/2006

This place is self explanatory. If you are looking for a scrumptious treat look no farther. i came into this place thinking it was just going to be another sprinkles or a my little cupcake, but this place unlike the others was actually good. their red velvet is the best i have ever tasted, as well as their peach cobbler. i havent gotten the chance to try a lot of the huge selection that they offer but i garuntee that i will be back. more

To be honest, their cupcakes are Ok, not fab 9/6/2006

This is the place to go if you want more of a homestyle version of a cupcake rather than the more artistic, trendier versions you find at Leda's, My Little Cupcake, and Sprinkles. I liked the Red Velvet the best because it tasted fresher and lighter than most I've tried. But some of the other flavors were too sweet, or had no ""umpf"" factor to them. Pros: Service, Homier Feel Cons: Taste, Aesthetics more

Always Yummy 8/3/2006

Oh, my goodness. I just can't get enough. Every flavor I have tried has been amazing. I make the trek to the Valley to get these like it's my job. I would suggest going early on the weekends for the best selection. And on Fridays they have Happy Hour! Pros: Frosting, Cake, Selection Cons: Wish they were open later! more

Ok, but not great. 7/31/2006

Seriously, does anyone expect this place to be open past a year? They sell cupcakes. JUST CUPCAKES! Sure, the place is clean, the service very friendly, and a good variety, but honestly, my mom makes much better cupcakes. My wife and I went with big expectations but were a bit disappointed. The cupcakes were ok, but pretty average really. The cake was so-so, can't really say it's much better than something you'd get out of a box, the frosting nothing to write home about. What is the big deal with this whole cupcake thing? $2.50 for one small cupcake? That better be one dang good cupcake, and well, it just wasn't. I hear the one's over in Beverly Hills are more expensive. Well, sure, it's Beverly Hills, you'd expect such outrageousness out there, but does this trend have traction? Time will tell I guess.\r \r In the meantime, I get more satisfaction out of a 75-cent Krispy Kreme. Pros: Clean, friendly service. Cons: Mediocre cupcakes, too expensive. more
