Best

Not bad sushi considering we live in Minnesota! Great menu choices for sushi beginners and experts alike. I especially love the Tonka Maki roll. Lines can be long so get there ...

Worst

The food was okay and we had no complaints, but it doesn't make up for a lackluster dining experience. The cook we had was okay ""don't know about fish"" and don't speak english, ...

Best Sushi this side of the Mississippi 11/14/2006

We've eaten sushi at a lot of restaurants, both in Mpls and other cities. This definitely the best sushi in Mpls. Totally worth the drive and $. The sushi chef's are great and personable. They pass little plates for you to try that they think will either please or shock you (and are usually shockingly pleasing). We found this place to be better than Fuji Ya, Nami, Origami, and Sushi Tango. We love it and will miss it very much now that we moved. Pros: Intimate, fresh and delicious sushi, great service, enjoyable sushi chefs Cons: No sake by the bottle. more

Not bad, but certainly not great 8/23/2006

After reading the reviews on this site, we decided to give Yumi's a try. I've gotta say I don't get it. The fish was OK, but far from spectacular or even excellent. The maguro, in particular, was less than fresh and was of a quality that I usually see reserved for makizushi where appearance is not so important. Hardly worth raving about. The tamago was very good. The rest of the sushi we ordered was just OK, with one exception: My wife likes caterpillar rolls so we ordered one of those. The unagi was very good (probably the best fish of the evening). The roll was far from the usual flashy presentation I'm used to seeing, but the flavor balance was very nice. My wife declared it the best caterpillar roll she'd ever eaten. Pros: Cute little place. Reasonable prices. Nice area for an after dinner stroll. Cons: Average food. Below average rice prep and presentation. Inattentive waiter. more

Great sushi, good service...love it! 7/11/2006

I went to Yumi's for the first time for my birthday celebration. We had a large group, even with that the service was top notch, the sushi was dreamy. I loved the Yumi maki.....devine!! Pros: great sushi, good service Cons: small, and only has evening hours (no lunch) more

Melt down 4/7/2006

This restaurant is much better than the overall rating would suggest. Yumi's is at the top of our list of restaurants we crave in a town full of great independently-owned eateries. The service is always excellent, sushi and sashimi very fresh and well presented. The freshness is especially surprising given that this is in the Midwest . Go ahead ask for "" umacasi"" more

Pleasant atmosphere. Many business dinner or meeting take place here. The server know to help business people find each other. They are discreet and professional about their work and don't interupt the meetings for chit-chat. The orders are taken and the food delivered almost effortlessly. Prices are reasonable, portions are fine, food is very good. An excellent atmosphere for job interviews, sales calls etc more

The ambiance at Yumis sushi bar is nice, however the sushi is only about average. The nigiri selection is very good, but the selection of rolls is all the time changes never boring unless you want is some kind of tempura roll. A nice palace for a date or something special. The wait staffs are also the greatest. Should stop by that palace. more

Yummy Yumi's 7/8/2003

Great location down on Water St in Excelsior - a little small, but cozy. I recommend sitting at the Sushi bar as the chefs are wonderful and friendly. The rest of the waitstaff was exceptionally nice as well. It would be hard to dine with a large group but I consider Sushi a rather intimate dining experience anyway. more
