Come On In The Water Is Fine 7/24/2008

I am a 50+ male who is not very flexible and has had numerous surgeries so I was a bit concerned because I certainly didn't want to aggravate any old injuries. My concerns were quickly dispelled and I found the class exhausting but also invigorating. The teachers are exceptionally kind, talented and patient always reminding us (students) this is our class time. There also are a variety of classes offered from beginner to advanced throughout the day. My fellow students also seem to be a caring bunch who share a love of this great exercise. My advise to any one reading this is to ""Come On In The Water Is Fine"". \r \r Pros: parking, centrally located, excellent instructors, clean workout space, various levels of classes more

Changed my life 7/22/2008

I had tried several types of yoga (including Bikram) before I ventured over to Vinyasa yoga at Yoga in Motion. I was instantly hooked...even though I accidentally went to an advanced class for my first experience. The prices are completely reasonable, especially if you buy a 'pass'. I adore Effie (owner and teacher), and can only aspire to someday have a a body like Claudia. Knowing I can go to these yoga classes at night and on weekends helps get me through the day...not to mention, my posture has improved, and I sleep much better at night. I think it's even helping my half-marathon training as well. I highly recommend you check it out - you can drop in for a single class. I promise you won't regret it. Pros: makes me feel beautiful and strong Cons: sometimes class gets too crowded, but what can you do? it's popular more

Yoga for the Soul! 7/22/2008

I have only recently begun taking yoga! As a first-timer, I was concerned about my place in the class. Would I fit in? Would I hold others back? Would I look ridiculous? As it turns out, the instructors are so warm and welcoming that I never once felt like I didn't belong there. Even on my first day! And the atmosphere is so conducive to yoga practice that everyone is so into their own zone that no one really notices what everyone else is doing anyway. I have never felt judged . On the contrary! Effie and her staff of instructors are so professional and knowledgeable that I have grown in my practice immensely. \r \r The studio is easy to get to despite the construction on Lockhill-Selma Road. It is on the corner of Lockhill and West, so I just come up NW Military to West. Easy enough! \r \r GREAT place to work on your physique, spirit, and soul!\r \r Pros: GREAT instructors, great atmosphere, friendly members, great and diverse class times. more

The only yoga studio that can keep me going! 5/19/2008

As a 50+ woman, I had my doubts when my fitness nut friend insisted I accompany her to Yoga in Motion for a trial visit. I ""trialed"" for several times and despite red face and sore muscles, I kept going back. Effie Wood, the owner, has an effervescent personality (it doesn't hurt that she is also an Older Woman) and always remembers your name. Her Monday evening beginner's class is the way I look forward to beginning my week. She also understands that 50 year old bodies some times have things wrong with them and always gives options for differing levels of ability when teaching new poses. Most important is learning how to breathe. Effie says that proper breathing techniques help you use your parasympathetic system which moves you into weight loss mode. I don't know about that, but I CAN tell you that since joining Yoga in Motion ( I am an official member, on my 2nd card) I have lost the pesky 8 lbs that have been plaguing me for the past 5 years! \r \r Another thing I appreciate is that you pay by the class. If you commit to more classes, it costs less (I don't want to say how much, because my class is full enough already and I don't really want you to come to it). My new Wednesday beginner teacher, Julie, is fabulous and gorgeous. Not every one in my beginner classes is my age either, so there is always something pleasant to look at when I'm not doing a Downward Facing Dog or Warrior 2. \r \r I may (OK will likely) always be in the beginner class, but I get a good workout, I've lost weight and I feel welcome and cared for. I've been to a lot of gyms and yoga classes and this is the best I've ever found. SO STAY AWAY!! Pros: friendly atmosphere, good location, the best instructors, Cons: every once in a while I have trouble finding a place to put my mat if I'm in late more

Excellent Yoga Studio 5/8/2008

I've been going to Yoga In Motion for a year now. What started out as an experimentation into yoga has turned into a way of life for me. The atmosphere is welcoming, not at all intimidating, and not competitive. The instructors are knowledgable, approachable, and always helpful. Having experimented with all kinds of fitness, Yoga In Motion, has opened the doors of what I am capable of achieving. I highly recommend Yoga to anyone looking to improve their body, mind, spirit, and Yoga In Motion to anyone looking for a wonderful atmosphere to do it in. Pros: Instructors, atmosphere, more

An excellent yoga studio! 5/3/2008

I've been a student at ""Yoga In Motion"" for two years and it's been a wonderful experience. I've had some health challenges in the last couple of years and have found that my yoga practice has helped in eliminating some of the medications I may have had to take in order to manage my symptoms. The instructors are ALL excellent and very conscientious of the needs of their students. Each class is structured according to skill level and the teachers are always willing to answer questions and help students achieve their individual goals. My favorite part of the class is at the end when we go into ""relaxation"" mode - it sets the tone for my day! The cost for the classes is very reasonable, with the added bonus of purchasing a ""class card"" which gives the student a discount based on the number of classes purchased. The studio is tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Pros: Easily accessible; great instructors; great atmosphere more

A wonderful place 5/3/2008

Yoga in motion is the best yoga studio in San Antonio. The staff is friendly and the studio's atmosphere is inviting. The instructors really know how to teach yoga to where you can understand your body placement and they keep the classes interesting by slowly adding new postures which advance your skills. I am a runner and I have found these classes to be quite complimentary to running. I have also developed a new sense of self and body awareness from attending classes at Yoga in Motion. You leave feeling like you've had both a workout and a massage from the inside. more

Best yoga studio I've ever been to 4/30/2008

I travel a lot to the States, and San Antonio is one of my main destinations in the country; I wanted to keep up my yoga practice while in town, so I went to a couple of places to check them out and after trying one of Effie's classes at Yoga in Motion, I never returned to any of the other studios (eventhough they're closer to where I usually stay). Effie is truly a great yoga teacher and the studio is as serene and welcoming as can be, even to us ""travelers"". I always look forward to practice there, since I believe this is one of the finest yoga practices available not only in San Antonio but really anywhere in the world. It does not matter if you take only one or two classes every three months, you always walk out with a new bit of knowledge and awareness that you did not have before. I can only imagine what I could do If I had the benefit of a regular practice here. Highly recommended! Pros: Great instructors! Quiet, beautiful studio. Convenient payment method (only pay for classes taken) Cons: None that I could think of. more

Wonderful & Welcoming! 4/29/2008

This fabulous studio epitomizes everything that is great about yoga. I have been an active member for over 3 years and my practice at Yoga In Motion has blossomed into something that is not just exercise, but a part of me. The owner goes above and beyond to get to know her students and enhance their practice in any way she can. This is truly a place where you can sweat, relax, grow, and make friends. When I first moved to San Antonio, it was really difficult to find other people interested in the same things I was, but Yoga In Motion really helped to close that gap? MUCH more welcoming and intimate than other studios in the area. Another bonus: you don?t have to pay to rent towels or mats. Pros: experienced teachers, great workshops, perfect yoga atmosphere, holistic attitude, non-judgmental, welcoming, diverse Cons: some of the best classes start during rush hour, can be difficult if schedule is tight more

excellent place to practice yoga 4/29/2008

Pros: ambiance, clean. drinking water Cons: parking lot more

All the Best and More 3/6/2008

I have been practicing yoga for a little over a year now at Yoga in Motion. I could write all day long on how wonderful it is to be able to go to yoga there. I can honestly say that I did visit other yoga studios in town and found that Yoga in Motion is the only place I felt at home. It not only has great teachers and a beautiful studio, its practicing yoga with a lot of wonderful new friends. Everyone I have had the opportunity to meet there has truly been a blessing. You can learn yoga anywhere in the world, but what makes the difference between good and great is when you can have people around you that care.\r \r more

Best atmosphere, Most Knowledgeable, in the Yoga Industry Today! 11/3/2006

I travel for my job but cannot stay away from yoga. I've done yoga in studios from California to Florida and everywhere in between. When business stopped me in San Antonio for two weeks I looked up Yoga studios and happened to choose this one since it was close to my hotel. I have to say it was the best yoga experience I've ever encountered. I went 8 times in those two weeks and didn't want to leave San Antonio. The owner/instructor was extremely knowledgeable about yoga and was able to give me some great advice. If you don't go to Yoga In Motion, you are truly missing out. more

A Great Place for Yoga! 2/6/2006

I've been attending classes at Yoga in Motion for almost two years now. The staff and the atmosphere are supportive for both the beginner and the more advanced student. There is really something for everyone here. Pros: Knowledgable staff, Modern facility more
