Decided to sign my 3 yo daughter up for swimming classes for the summer. I signed up and paid for classes over the phone and received pretty good service so I thought okay, maybe ...

It is really a good place...Glad to be a member 1/18/2011

I have been a member for almost 5 years. At the beginning it was true that they didn't have too many machines at the gym, but now they have lots of modern, with tv and different cardiovascular machines. The programs they offer are cheaper compare to other places. Yes, the instructors are young..but they are good. From my experience. the first year my son went to his swimming class, he cried all the class..yes the instructor was not with him the whole class, (there are other kids too, we have to be fair, all kids deserve the same attention) but each class the instructor helped my child to get into the swimming pool...right now, he enjoys a lot going to the swimming pool classes, and I am sure he would not have been able to do this without The YMCA,,,It is not perfect, but it is good, and cheap... more

Horrible Staff 9/10/2010

Not a Gym for Adults 4/30/2008

The Malden YMCA is new, with new exercise equipment, pools, a basketball court, etc. There is limited parking across the street. There are not TV's for each machine, only a few scattered that the teenagers inevitably change when you are watching something. There is also a rule against children in the cardio/fitness area, but you'll see them there causing trouble and getting on machines. There are not enough machines for everyone during peak hours. Be prepared to wait for an elliptical, bike, or treadmill from 4:30 - 8pm on weeknights. The classes that they claim are great are offered at ridiculous times - what working person can make a 9am or 5pm class?! I would pass - for the cost ($52 for an adult per month plus joining fee) you can do better elsewhere. Pros: Swimming pool, basketball court Cons: Children getting in the way, not enough machines, not enough supervision, classes don't fit working people's hours more
