Family Friendly! Great food too! 2/15/2011

We just went there tonight with our three small children. Besides the food being delicious, the staff was soooooo nice and so patient with our children. The owner even made a spill proof cup for my 16 month old. She would stop and play with him and bring him random things to entertain him. I loved them. They also brought out a couple of delicious items on the house, that we did not order. We had some sushi, a couple udon bowls, and some teriyaki chicken for the kids. I highly recommend Little Tokyo. more

Best sushi around the triangle 5/3/2010

I used to live close by this area and found this place by chance, but I am happy that I did. I have taken several friends there and they all agree that the food is amazing. They make you feel welcome. You are always brought a free appitizer and sometimes a desert of green tea ice cream. Pros: sushi, temport Cons: location, service is sometimes off more

Great little place 3/7/2010

I have been to Little Tokyo both by myself and with another person a few times. When I go alone, I get the tempura udon (it's messy to eat, I don't like to eat it in front of other people) and when I go with a friend I'll get some sort of sushi. I have never been disappointed, and really like the free little appetizers they serve: one in a big shell and another heart shaped one. These are consistently good, although I have no idea what they are or what exactly they're made of. I have very much enjoyed the tempura udon and would love to see them add tempura soba (or even plain old soba!) to the menu. I love the size and atmosphere of the place and have always had polite and attentive waitresses. Pros: great tempura udon, great sushi more

BEST SUSHI EVER 11/8/2009

We went here on a recommendation from a friend and have been back at least a dozen times since. This is the ONLY place to go if you want Sushi, and they have simply the best rolls anywhere in the Triangle! Pros: free appetizers, great fresh fish Cons: NONE, even the location and outside of it gives it character more

Good sushi restaurant relative to the area 3/4/2009

I've had sushi all over the world, all over the nation, and (more relevant to this review) all over the Triangle. Little Tokyo is far from the best sushi that I've had, that's why I cannot give it 5 stars. However, for this area I'd have to say it is one of the best. Pros: Reasonable price, unlisted extras Cons: Occasional subpar food, hard for some to find more

Charming and Romantic 2/20/2009

This restaurant was amazing! The waitress was very sweet and the appetizers were not only free, but delicious. The sushi presentation and flavor were outstanding. The best I've ever had! If you are looking for a romantic and homey place to enjoy sushi with loved ones this is it! Cons: waitress took too long to refill my drink more

God awful service, drowned sushi 2/14/2009

To give them credit there is one lady in the front who was polite, the rest of the staff was rude. Any attempt to reach the restaurant by phone is lost because they say they're too busy to talk. more

Disappointing 2/14/2009

I'd made reservations for Valentines 2 weeks early. When I got there they said they were too busy to make reservations and canceled all of the ones they had. more

A joke right? 2/2/2009

How can this be Five stared sushi joint? Is people nuts in this area? Pros: server Cons: everything else more

Best Sushi in NC 12/15/2008

I love sushi and this is the only place I will eat it at in North Carolina. THE best sushi I have ever had in my life! I drive 30 minutes one way to eat it and I don't care. MUST try it if you like sushi, gaurentee you won't go anyplace else! There is not one bad thing on their menu, and they'll randomly bring you free food while waiting for your order! FANTASTIC! Pros: very nice staff, amazing sushi, don't feel rushed more

High Quality FREE FOOD! 12/9/2008

I've been to Japan, I've tried many sushi places. This one is one of the best. It does not only have very tasty reasonably priced, creative sushi. It gives you free appetizers, and free deserts sometimes when you go for dinner. And I'm not talking crackers, I mean free crab or spicy tuna appetizers. Pros: Everything else Cons: a bit pricey for a college student, wish it was open on sundays more

Best Sushi Restaurant 8/5/2008

Being raised in Japan, sushi takes a nice chunk of my life. Which means I'm very picky about the restaurants I visit. Little Tokyo is, by far, the best sushi restaurant I've come across ever since moving to the US. The staff is extremely kind and easy to make friends with and the sushi chefs really know what they're doing. What pleased me the most, was the quality of the sushi/sashimi, it's always fresh. When I learned the old owner, Juno, had left the business to go back to New York, I was afraid they quality and atmosphere would change. However, it's still the Little Tokyo I've come to know and love. Absolutely worth every cent. Pros: Food, Service, Value Cons: Lack of space, Crowded on weekends more

Just okay 1/22/2008

We went there for the first time two weeks ago when some colleagues recommended going there for lunch, claiming they are really good. I eat sushi a lot and can tell if a fish have taste (fresh) or if it doesn't (frozen). This place didn't impress me at all; the sashimi doesn't have any fresh fish taste and the salad dressing doesn't taste fresh too. The only thing that impressed me was that they gave us two free appetizers on the house, I thought my colleagues ordered them but turned out they are compliments from the restaurant. But the appetizers were quite oily and didn't taste that great either. I don't really want to write a mediocre review for any restaurant but do feel I want to say something since I saw all these raving reviews and don't understand what all the hype is. Maybe I went at the wrong day when the good chef had a day off? Pros: free appetizers (quite big portion) Cons: not-as-fresh-as-reviews-claimed fish, mediocre taste more

Easily the best...! 12/15/2007

I have used citysearch for a couple years now, but after reading the last two reviews I feel compelled to make my first ever post. Little Tokyo is outstanding! The chefs clearly know their stuff. The fish is brought in fresh daily from Boston and New York, not frozen like the last reviewer states. Bottom Line, you will never find sushi of this quality, for this price! An absolute must try for sushi lovers. Pros: Great sushi at a great price! Cons: Random location more

Mediocre food and sushi 11/11/2007

I find my self agreeing with the person who wrote the review below. Basically took the words our of my mouth. Descent food and descent price. Nothing special and inexperienced sushi chef that didn't know much but thinks otherwise. I don't blame the people that gives high praises to this restaurant. They don't have any good japanese restaurant near this area. The free apps and desserts are a plus. Good idea to keep customers happy and think this is really good sushi joint. Pros: Free apps and desserts. Cons: Way overated place. The sushi chefs are overated as well. more

What's with all the high praises?!? One of the best?..I think not 11/6/2007

First of all the service was not good....I don't mind the small size and the not so good location. I always judge by the food. I've been enjoying sushi for a long time..and I hear from someone that this place was AWESOME. Obviously he doesn't know what he is talking about. Kitchen food was just ok...nothing bad or good. The sushi rolls I ordered were definitely not ""tasty"". Far as the sushi and sashimi goes...nothing special. I'm a veteran sushi eater...and I know my fishes. They only carried frozen fishes...normally a descent sushi joint will have lots of frozen fishes but they atleast have a few that are fresh. The choices of the sushi were limited and quality was just ok. Price?..it's not that expensive...but watch out..the menu looks like they are reasonable but some of the items are overpriced... Especially for their quantity. The free appetizers and desserts are a plus and makes up for their ""below average"" food. Would I go back?...for me the answer is no..I'd rather get good sushi and food and sacrifice the little freebies. Don't get me wrong...it's not the worst in the triangle..but definitely not one of the best. Pros: Free apps and desserts. Cons: Bad service, and food. more

FANTASTIC SUSHI! 9/30/2007

We're new to the area but this has to be some of the best sushi in the Triangle! We've lived in New York, Chicago, St. Louis, and have eaten sushi around the world and this is really some of the best for the price. The rolls are very interesting and original and many are topped with interesting sauces (that are original but not overwhelming). There are a couple of good waiters and a couple of really bad ones so you're either going to have great service or bad service. Either way, the sushi is worth it and they bring you a free appetizer or two and free dessert. You'd never guess the quality of the food from the outside since it's in an ugly strip mall and the interior decor is hideous with brown splattered paint all over the walls and black splattered paint all over the ceilings. Despite the problems (bad service, hideous decor), this place is completely and totally worth going to for the sushi. Let's just hope they keep their prices reasonable! Pros: Sushi, Free appetizer(s) Cons: Service (sometimes) and decor more

Best sushi in the triangle 9/20/2007

Little Tokyo is my favorite place to eat sushi in the triangle. The sushi is fresh and affordable and the service is great. We do take out about once a week and they have no problem accommodating us. If you do take out on the weekend, it's important to order early because it is a very popular crowded place. I recommend the New Heaven Roll and the Godfather roll. more

They dont take order to go on friday night or saturday night 8/31/2007

For the past few weeks. I called Little Tokyo on friday night and saturday night to order some sushi and each time they told us ""we are busy and can't take order to go"". Heck, one time we came in and ordered sushi to go and they told us ""We are busy now so we can't take any order to go"". Pros: Good sushi Cons: Bad service . Don't take order to go when busy. more

Best Sushi 7/31/2007
