Cool place to hang out (when it's open) 2/17/2010

First let me state that I love the idea of local brewers, and I love being able to stop at my local brewer to fill up a growler. Yazoo provides that opportunity in a neat old building. The staff is pleasant, and the crowd is always pleasant, down-to-earth, and interesting. My only caveat is that the beer is simply ok. Don't get me wrong, the IPA will completely wreck you if you drink more than 3, and fans of darker beers tell me the Dos Perros is damn fine (personally doesn't appeal to me), but other than a seasonal porter, I really don't come back to Yazoo very often, as many of the beers are insipid at best, and unsavory at worst (thinking of the Hefe-Weissen that tastes like bananas). Will I go back? Absolutely. I love the place, and when the beer's just right, it's damn good. The only problem is, the beer's hit or miss (and usually miss). Pros: Neat building, great atmosphere, cool local crowd Cons: The beer's merely OK. more

Small, Unique, Great brew! 1/4/2007

Once you arrive at this out of the way taproom, you will be surprised to find the place so bustling and crowded. From the outside, the only indicator that something is going on in this run-down factory is all the cars parked out front. The taproom is clean, warm, and has a great ecclectic feel. It can get very packed (due to the limited hours open) but the lofted ceilings make it feel open. Friendly staff and tasty local brew make this a great place to bring out of town guests. Enjoy sitting outside in the courtyard when it is warm, and make sure you bring home a growler for the days they are closed! Try the Dos Perros. more

  • In Short
This local microbrewery always offers four homemade ales, as well as specially designed brews for local bars and restaurants. Beer is served in pints, five-ounce samplers or 64-ounce take-home growlers. The menu includes gourmet cheese served with fresh Tuscan bread and seasonal fruit. A pre-dinner crowd sits at the concrete-topped bar or alongside the wooden church pew near the front door. The walls are mostly brick-lined, ceilings are high and background music is kept low.
