TERRIBLE 6/18/2009

Dry, Greasy, Meatless fish (how is that even possible) Watery sugary ""sauce"" Bland bland bland soup...with CANNED vegetables. Just a very poor quality restaurant. They didn't even get our order right. Pros: ......... Cons: Tastes like cafeteria food. more

Worth every penny! 8/15/2008

I don't know when the last few reviews visited Yajai but it was amazing every time I go! The staff members are extremely courteous and friendly, making you feel valued. The food comes in great portions for the price, beating out other Thai restaurants in the Astoria area. Best salads (Yum) I've had in Queens. One thing though: Make sure you tell the waiter/waitress how spicy you want your spicy dishes or it won't be very hot. Pros: Great quality food for the price, good service Cons: Small Space more

Terrible Food 5/31/2008

I am not recommending this restaurant to anybody. there are plenty of other decent Thai restaurant in the area and all over NY. We live in astoria and order almost all their dish menu. Some of the dish are Ok. but most of them are unacceptable. The Yum salads are always seem to be drowned in a pool of Lime juice. Duck wings taste and look like a duck swimming out of a pool of mud and served immediately (if you like fresh duck??not me)- smell unapetizing and no flavor none is really satisfying. The only decent think it seems is the peanut sauce but even that they actually dare to deliver an ""expired"" peanut sauce one time, any food that requires oil are always too OILY, very very OILY. The fish is not cleaned properly, the pad thai is below standard, stir fried noodle are awfull. Pros: Fast delivery Cons: In general the food is unacceptable more

pass on this - head to Sripraphai in Woodside which is top-notch Thai 5/7/2008

We did delivery. Order-taker was friendly, but it took me several tries to reassure her that I really did want her Recommendation on a vegetable side dish, not a recitation of the menu items. She finally suggested the sauteed broccoli. However, they instead delivered the painfully boring, Americanized ""mixed vegetables."" The duck with basil sauce - it was so very dry, even with all the excess skin, so dry that it had weird crusty bits that I thought were bones, but no it was dry duck. The noodles with peanut sauce were dull but at $4.95 I suppose not a bad deal. The coconut rice was tasty, thank goodness, as that is what sustains us this evening. Such a disappointment after reading some of these very good reviews. more

BEST THAI in the City 2/21/2008

I highly reccommend this restaurant. It has great service and The BIG BOWL SPICY NOODLE SOUP IS TO DIE FOR!! All other Thai places fade in comparison. I can never leave Astoria now! more

Super, can't wait to go back 1/9/2008

A friend in Astoria had been raving about this place so I finally made it out from the city. The trip was well worth it. As someone who is extremely picky about Thai food, I found the whole experience to be terrific. Duck spring rolls for an appetizer were delicious, perfectly spiced. The spicy noodle with chicken was outstanding, much better than anything in my neighborhood in Manhattan -- and the plate was full of meat. The taste was so good I was sad when I finished. I wanted more. My friend swears by everything on the menu, but had the basil fried rice with shrimp which had tons of shrimp in it. Great. We even got a chance to meet the chef who was a really funny, interesting guy and totally seemed to care how we liked the food. After talking to him a few minutes, he came back with some free dessert -- just try the fried ice cream. Seriously. The place is great, I honestly am looking forward to going back soon. Pros: delicious, friendly, inexpensive Cons: it's not in manhattan! please come soon more

I live near here and I've been at least 4 times in the last two years. I've always gotten the take out (so I know nothing about the dining-in experience). Pros: location (right near subway station) Cons: pretty much everything more

Unpredictable 1/7/2007

You're probably never going to get something terrible from Yajai and sometimes you might get something great; you just don't know. Most recently I've noticed that the food had tended towards the overly sweet side. Curries like Panang or Massaman are already sweet, so the added sugar just takes away from their appeal. The green papaya salad is pretty good, if a somewhat Americanized. I love it. (I just wish there was more papaya and less iceberg lettuce in it). Prices are okay, but not great. Since it is mainly a take-away place, I think the prices are a little on the high side especially for Astoria. Other Thai restaurants in the vicinity have similar prices and much nicer sit-down facilities. The staff is friendly. It would be fabulous if there's more consistency in the menu. I've had some problems with delivery though, when I would call and they were out of virtually everything. Then they would call me back to tell me they were out of my 2nd choice too. Don't know what's going on there. Pros: Papaya salad, friendly staff Cons: Inconsistency, over-sweetness & under-spiced more

Delicious 6/4/2006

My husband and I order from here almost every week. The food is even better if you eat it in. Personal favorites are duck salad with pinapple and apple, mango and avocado salad, green curry, singapore noodle. The pad thai isn't bad either. more

Thai food take out place 1/13/2006

After Thai Pavillion made a great success in Astoria, two more Thai restrant opened few years ago. This one, unfortunately only serves some sort of Chinese take out. I gave it several tries, but only ended with dissapointment. Pros: quick service, take out Cons: take out ambience more

What a great place! I am moving into manhattan from astoria and this will be one of the reasons to come back. Wonderful food and a nice staff. My Girlfriend and I love the place! If you are in astoria go there. Best food of the three Thai restaurants on 30th ave. Pros: great food, NIce staff, Fresh more

They cook them well! 6/7/2004

I went to this thai restaurant with my friends. At first this place look like a take out thai restaurant but they have nice seating area un like chinese take out. There were pictures of food all over. So it was easy for me to pick my dish. The food were great and great. I had papaya salad and it was very tasty and spicy (I asked for it!). So it you are around astoria, I recommend this place. Pros: resonable price, friendly, adjustable flavor more

This is a semi take out style Thai restaurant which is located on 30 Avenue between 33&34 Street in Astoria. Thier menu is huge and has many choices. I tried Sauteed tom yum seafood and it is a great great dish. If you are around that area, don't miss them. Pros: great taste, inexpensive, Friendly more
