Rough Week 8/12/2016

High expectations coming into this week for all the water sports the camp was to provide. As it turns out this water sports camp is a very small portion of the day, and you are lucky to go around the lake once or twice each day. Many of the counsellors yell a lot, as well as the team on the bus. All in all, this first time will also be the last! more

Poor Facilities 8/21/2006

I was up at Camp Manitou Lin - It is a YMCA camp that runs both day camps and overnight camps. We took a bunch of kids their for the day camp and the facilities were very dirty. THe bathrooms were gross and lots of cob webs with very little toilet paper and very dirty everywhere. We were not greeted and our activities that they had planned were very poor and did not take the time which was suggested to us. Therefore the kids had a lot of down time which led them to trouble. I suggest visitng this camp before you enroll your child! more

Gates Chapel: GORGEOUS Location LOOOOOONNGGGG HIKE! 10/18/2005

I recently attended a wedding at Gates Chapel at the YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin. My husband and our three children, arrived and were immediately impressed with the beautiful wooded location. We parked in the parking lot, and then headed for the large building next to it, thinking this was the chapel. One of the other guests saw us, and told us that the chapel was actually in the woods. We then started the hike to the chapel. This walk would probably not seem far, had we been expecting it, or if I had not had three children and I was not wearing high healed open toed sandals. The path is a mixture of sand, pebbles, and mulch. Which is fine for someone in tennis shoes or hiking boots, but combined with heals and open toed sandals, was a bit painful! We arrived at the wedding 15 minutes early, and by the time we reached the chapel, we only had a few minutes to spare. Thankfully, the wedding was running late, so we were ok. The older guests and those on crutches were visibly struggling to reach the chapel. It would have been nice for the camp to offer some sort of transportation for the guests. When we reached the chapel, the view was breathtaking. It overlooks the lake, which was very pretty. There is a little bridge leading from the path to the chapel shelter which is a nice touch. The shelter itself resembles a picnic shelter with a vaulted ceiling, but the setting is so pretty, you don't really notice, and with decorations, it was quite pretty. My suggestion for anyone planning to have a wedding here would be to warn the guests to bring some comfortable shoes for the hike. Most of the women took their heals off for the hike back to the parking area, which could be dangerous if there was something sharp on the ground. more
