I was thrilled because I've always wanted to check XYZ out and with no surprise, we had a grand time... As we arrived at the restaurant, I was given a long-stem rose for welcome.....

Wife and I went to lunch on a Sunday. I could have found this menu at Denny's. Top 5 dishes were breakfast/eggs. Wife got a suped up turkey sandwich for $14 and I got a mediocr...

I just got back from San Fran and I went to XYZ on the recommendation from a friend who used to live in the city. I loved it! The atmosphere was beautiful (and we didn't even make it to bar area just to the lobby). The service was great and the drinks very, very strong. I would so recommend XYZ in San Francisco and it makes me want to check out my local W hotel! Pros: location, atmosphere, drinks more

Everything I would expect from the W 8/29/2004

My dining experience matched my expectations: very chic, very trendy, very long on flash and very low on substance. My entree arrived only partially cooked. Although the wine list was very impressive, with an extensive selction at a variety of price points, our waiter couldn't be bothered to comment on any of them, when he finally showed up at our table. Although the waiter apologized for the entree and comped our dessert, there was no explanation offered. Pros: stylish presentation, Ambiance Cons: , poor service, incompetent kitchen more

The staff is nothing less than wonderful, and absolutely amazing about making you feel welcome and at home. The food is delicious no matter what your taste is. The ambiance is exquisite Pros: great food, great music, great service more

Beautiful place, beautiful people, great drinks, great service. Everything there is wonderful, good music, comfy places to sit and talk. It is pricey but worth it considering everything and the super friendly staff gives out drink coupons if your nice to them. Trendy place to meet and talk to people also, staff and guests. Great, calm place 4/6/2004

A friend and I went here for drinks and chatting. It was perfect, we got there before any club kids so it wasn't crowded until later. You do have to go outside the hotel to smoke, which was a little annoying - but the waitress was nice to make sure we still has our spots when we came back. The martini's were great. The bathrooms were clean. The seats were comfy. You couldn't ask for more. Yeah, the drinks are about $10, but just get one with a lot of alcohol and soon you won't care! Mmm..dessert! 1/31/2004

I went for dinner and I liked the atmosphere a lot. The food was very good, but overpriced for what it really is. Their desserts were the best part--they are absolutely stellar! I was there for my aunt's birthday party and there were a lot of people, so I got away with ordering like 3 desserts without anyone noticing. I know that is probably not ""right"" but damn those desserts were good!!! Pros: great food, atmosphere, dessert Cons: , a little pricy more

Went there for lunch on Tue, Jan 13 and was a little disappointed. Tried the prix fixe lunch menu and was disappointed with the entrees. Nice ambience, but food was mediocre. Definitely not worth the price...not even $20. Pros: Ambience Cons: Food more

Wife and I went to lunch on a Sunday. I could have found this menu at Denny's. Top 5 dishes were breakfast/eggs. Wife got a suped up turkey sandwich for $14 and I got a mediocre salad for $14. Food was average if that. Wait staff was late and poor on everything. Only saving grace is the host - Dean Dillon. He noticed that things were not going well for us and offered to remove the drinks. XYZ Doesn't Disappoint 6/30/2003

After reading the many reviews of XYZ Restaurant and chef Malachi Harland's food, I decided I should give it a try and see what the buzz was all about. Being a cynic by nature...I was ready for the worst. But starting with the gracious greeting I received upon arriving to the many thank you's I received as I made my out, XYZ didn't miss a beat. The food never failed to satisfy. The timeing between courses was excellent. The service was friendly and proficient and with over 400 wines to choose from, I was more than able to find a few bottles that satisfied myself and my guests. If I had to wager one complaint it would be that the music, at times, seems more fitting to the bustling bars than the restaurant. nightspot or restaurant? 1/22/2003

Overall, I would go back for drinks at the bar but I'm a little non plus at the restaurant side. I was sat in a broken bench chair which meant I was balancing on my right cheek all night which is not conducive for food enjoyment. The only stand out spot was dessert. This could have been because the SF dine about town menu offered wasn't very imaginative but you'd think they would try to impress us cheap skaters :) Pros: good atmosphere, bar Cons: disfunctional chairs more

This place is the bomb 1/1/2003

Apparently the W has spent some money on the vibe here. The music selection is sooo much better (house DJ?), and the sound is ten times better. Im not the only one to notice, this place was packed! I dined here a few nights ago and was very pleased. It is very obvious there is a new chef in town. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. I am planning to have my anniversary dinner here in a few weeks. more

I'm sure most of us will not miss those pretentious fools who think they are part of the ""A"" List. These are the type that moved from out of state, made a good living, thought they ruled SF only to be laid off a year later. Feels good to be part of the List doesn't it? more
