Wrigley Field

I have been a Cubs fan since I was 5 years old. Nearly 30 years later, STILL a Cubs fan stuck in a world of Sox fans (Family and friends) I have stood my ground. I will defend the Cubs until I die... whether they win or lose... because that's the whole point of being a fan... the good and the bad.\r \r You know, I've been sitting here, reading these comments, and for the naysayers... I have something to say. \r \r First of all, do you go to the park for the bathrooms? Who does? I don't pay attention to the bathrooms as long as theyre clean. Don't use that as an argument for the field as a whole. \r \r Secondly, does anyone remember the old Comiskey Park (or the newer one for that matter), or old Yankee Stadium? Yes, I've been to all three. Two of the three don't exist anymore - they were rebuilt....and yes, they were almost as bad as any OLD park. You cannot compare US ...whatever field... to Wrigley. When Comiskey was still standing (THE REAL ONE), then I would argue which was better. But please, if you don't like it, DON'T GO. I've been to Wrigley more times in the past few years than I have in to any other sports team in the Continental US... in my whole life. I'd pick Wrigley and its old feeling, to any of them.\r \r I know someone that works security at Wrigley... and even before I did, I never ONCE felt unsafe. If you feel your children aren't safe there, then that's your problem. Don't bring them... thats what a TV is for. They take care of business, and just because one idiot security guard makes a mistake, doesn't mean they all do.\r \r If you have the audacity to say we don't know the Cubs from the Bears, then you obviously talked to people that are just like you, fake fans... who don't know your head from a hole in the wall. Not ALL of us are drunks either. You'd know that if you talked to more than 4 people. If you don't like the food, bring your own, I do... because I like to eat before the game - and I bring my own water bottle too, because water is free.\r \r I love my Cubs, and if you're going to sit here and compare the World Series titles to the Sox, then lets have a little fact check here. Yes, the Sox may have won a World Series title more recently, but they've done just as poorly as the Cubs have at getting into the playoffs since then. Also, if you check your facts, the Cubs have actually won MORE W.S. Titles than the Sox have. Look it up...\r \r So people can say whatever they want, but this Cubs fan is TIRED of people saying things without a response. I'm only Sixteen so my word may not carry much weight with the older crowd but i love Wrigley Field and there is no other stadium where that many fans will show and support a team when its forty degrees out and raining. if you've got a problem Wrigley Field then go and get your head examined or leave it alone so others can enjoy it. i love the people and the team and i hope Wrigley stay exactly the same. more

Dirty place; rude people who try to pass as fans. Feared for my kids safety there. Least knowledgeable baseball crowd in the majors. Very unimpressive. Nothing but a tourist trap. Pros: Get to see other teams. Cons: Dirty. Rude. Obnoxious people. Drunks more

This is the best place to see a game in the country. It's nothing buty fun! And the area around it is amazing with hundreds of fun options for after the game. Man, I thought going to Wrigley was going to be a nice experience but it was horrible. The seats are cramped with very tight aisles, the food is absolutely horrible and extremely expensive, the Cubs never win and they haven't won a World Series since my great-grandma was still young, the parking is just awful and it costs around $50, plus the fans don't know the difference between the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. But, the thing that scared me the most was that I might get knocked uncoscious by falling concrete and lastly the bathrooms look like barnyards. It's like going on a farm. Horrible place and if you want a great atmosphere go to the South Side and watch a winning team. Cons: tight aisles, horrible food, expensive parking, bathrooms old, bad fans more

So ok, we haven't been to the World Series since 45, but hey who REALLY care; you're enjoying a Cubs game in the league's 2nd oldest ballpark (1st being Fenway). Speaking of the stadium itself, although it has gone through significant renovation throughout the years, it's one of the many symbols that puts Chicago on the map. It's history goes way back to 1914 when the Chicago Whales used to play Federal League baseball here before the Cubs moved in. Before ""Da Bears"" had Soldier Field to themselves, they played in Wrigley Field. Wrigley also was a venue for soccer tournaments in the old NASL days when the Chicago Sting called Wrigley home and even hosted the most anticipated concerts such as the most recent reunion of The Police. Who can remember back in the late 80s when Wrigley was FINALLY equipped with flood lights so the Cubs could play night games. Sure it's old and changes are being made almost every season these days, but it's home for Chicago baseball the way people remember it to be. I actually lived within walking distance of Wrigley during one summer. I live in San Francisco now and my memories of Wrigley are extremely fond. Even on a humid 90 plus degree summer I never got over being at a game at this great ballpark. I hope I can get back here soon some day even though here we have this new park that the Giants play at. I still am fond of Wrigley; I grew up in the midwest several hundred miles away and saw the Cubs on WGN with Harry Carrey announcing the games as a kid. What an awesome thrill it was to finally go to a game here. Don't get rid of this park Chicago; trust me you will regret it. It has it's annoying points but after not being here for a few years now I can't wait until I can get up some vacation time because I will come back to Wrigley for sure. Sometimes the new ballpark gets on my nerves because it's almost TOO new with flat panel plasma screens and sushi. Wrigley Field doesn't try to pretend to be a giant Wi Fi park or a winery or a high tech sports bar with a game playing in the background. I walk to Wrigley Field, so I can't say anything bad about the parking, I always grab a bite to eat on the walk down to the park, so I can't say anything bad about the food. They sell Labatt's Blue in the bleachers, so I can't say anything bad about the beer. I pay attention to the game while it's in progress and not the people around me, so I can't say anything bad about the ""fans"" (though I have made several friends just shootin the stuff talkin bout everything between innings). I go to Wrigley Field to watch 9 innings of baseball, that's what I paid for, and that's what I get. The Cubs win some, the Cubs lose some, heck, that's everyone's life story. If you don't go to a Cubs game, (or any baseball game for that matter) to watch a baseball game, then don't go. Leave baseball to the fans of the game. There's no place like Wrigley. Pros: Millions have been coming here since 1914, must have done something right more

Dont get me wrong I love the cubbies, but thats just it. I love the cubs, I dont love Wrigley anymore. It has some history, but lets face it what have the cubs done there? Keeping Wrigley in tact wont get the cubbies to the world series, I'd much rather see the cubbies win the ""big one"" in a new stadium than sitting thru another bad season w/ concrete possibly falling on me. Wrigley field is an icon. You cant judge a ballpark on what it is on the outside. It is the atmosphere and the love of the Cubbies. If you do not know the traditions of Wrigley Field then do not diss my favorite ball park in America. It still has a manual scoreboard. You do not go there expecting your favorite team to loose but its all in the atmosphere of the park. WHat park today can still say it even has a manual scoreboard? The dogs are great and the Peanut throwers are a show in themselves. Do not go to Wrigley field if you are looking for that ultra modern playing field. Go there to feel what it was like in the hayday of baseball. If you are from out of town, order a Chicago Style hot dog. Do not be surprised about the relish, it is just good. Oh and ask for a little more celery salt. Its a great park for the family and to enjoy an afternoon at the ballpark today! I happened to be clicking through this site and started to read some of the reviews. I immediately started to laugh at some and HAD to join up so that I could post this comment. I got a kick out of some of the people reviewing Wrigley Field as; old, cramped, bad food, no parking, or even fans not caring or paying attention to the games. First off, have you ever BEEN to Wrigley Field? It's not about modern day architecture (with unobstructed views) or ""parking lot"" parking for your SUV. It's about a ""one of a kind"" experience...not a cookie cutter suburban mega-field. It was built in a time that people wanted an intimate place to watch an American Game. Wrigley Field is a place to have a time of your life...because people ""check"" there life concerns at the door and have a GREAT time. Win or lose! You have to see it to believe it!--and for god sake, don't expect valet parking or bathroom attendants. For that, you can stay in the suburbs! more
