WAXL 96.5 is a corporate cess pool radio station. It holds the frequency of WZLS, owned by a family that had radio stations in Asheville and WNC for over 40 years.
John McCain's FCC radio act essentially stripped the ownership to the station away from the Lee Family and left it up to the highest bidder.
Gone are the real DJs, replaced by market sample replicants. Once 96.5 was about Rock and Roll, now it's simply MOR (middle of the Road) marass.
For radio, there's only one thing to do in Asheville: get XM.
