I went in this place on my first night in Indiana, I really like it me and my friends really had a good time.

Worst

I ate here last week with a couple of work buddies and came back out to a broken car window & thievery. Police officer who wrote up the report stated that this happens weekly here...

Good Food!! 4/18/2012

My mom and I went there today to try the fabulous double cheeseburger........DELICIOUS!! We arrived at 11:45, no problem getting a table. By 12:10, THE ENTIRE PLACE WAS PACKED! So, get there early. The pulled pork sandwich was da bomb as well. more

FREE VEHICULAR LARCENY with Order 2/16/2012

I ate here last week with a couple of work buddies and came back out to a broken car window & thievery. Police officer who wrote up the report stated that this happens weekly here. Today I just overheard a conversation at the office of the same thing happening to a co-worker a few weeks previously...which inspired me to write this. Food was alright. Had the Jalapeno burger...no Jalapenos, wasn't hot, just had pepper cheese on it. A bit disappointing. Heads up to anyone who eats here, take your stuff inside and don't leave anything in your car. I had very dark tinted windows, nothing was left out in the seat. more

Hi All, It has the world's best BIG JOHN Sandwich with Chips....This is a Hot Ham & Cheese (GRILLED) To Kill For....WOW what a great taste...The Burgers are Great Too.......I have been eating at the Working Man's Friend for over 35 Years....SUPER LUNCH PLACE!!!!!...Years ago owner John would set me up with a BIG JOHN and a COLD FISHBOWL....WOW...Nothing any better...FISHBOWL is a BREW in JUMBO ""FISHBOWL"" GLASS....Frosted....WOW....Thanks to all....Tom Haynes more

If you don't think this isn't the best burger in America, please provide the name and location of a better place. I travel throughout the country and always check out the best dives and diners. For burgers, this is the best, period. The large schooners of ice cold draft beer is the perfect complement. As for the service, it is always reasonable and pleasant. When they are busy it can be a little slow, but so what? Enjoy the diner/dive atmosphere and be glad you're getting the best burger in town. more

The burgers and onion rings are the best I've ever had. Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday are the best days to go for lunch, since it's not as crowded. They only take cash, so plan ahead. Absolutely amazing! Pros: Burgers and onion rings Cons: Fries could be better more

Best Doublecheeseburger in the world. 7/21/2005

Anyone who voted for a place other than ""the Friend"" hasn't been there. The place is always packed for lunch even though its in the middle of a run-down neighborhood and there is hardly any parking. The place isn't fancy, but its clean, and everyone, whether in hardhats or suits, are all there for the same thing -- to get stuffed on the best burgers, fries and onion rings around. Don't know much about the rest of the menu because after 40 visits I still crave the doublecheese. The only question is fries or rings and soda or a cold beer. Pros: Great food, relaxed atmosphere Cons: there aren't any more

Real Burger 5/26/2004

If you haven't been to ""The Friend,"" you don't really know what a hamburger is. If you have been there, and you think that Hardee's or Steak n Shake is better, you are an idiot. They also probably have the best pork tenderloin sandwich in the city, onion rings, etc. And you can get a beer in a glass the size of a fishbowl! Some might take issue with the accomodations, but they don't really belong. You will know quality when you taste it, not by the concrete floor under your feet. Pros: Inexpensive, Real food more

This place is a famous dive in Indianapolis--if you work downtown or live in the neighborhood. It's in a working class neighborhood, yet the after work clientele can include legislators, lawyers, and laborers! Working Man's Friend has amazing hamburgers, and DON'T miss out on the onion rings, or you'll be sorry. Everything they serve is generous in portion size, and you won't leave hungry! I have lived in the same neighborhood with this place all my life..never went there to eat. I finally went last summer..it was well worth the wait! For less than $6 I got a might tasty burger, nummy fries and a drink. This burger wasn't no rinky-dink fast food burger..it was good sized. My only and I mean ONLY complaint is that there is no free refills on drinks..I drink alot when I eat..that can be a problem. Remeber that it is a bar, you can't take kids in here. If you ever come to Indy come here. It is close to downtown and well worth the trip. Pros: Inexpensive, Good Parking, Fast Service Cons: No Free Refills more
