Now remember, this is just my opinion... Please note the age of the positive reviews. There's a good reason. When it went to new management, it also went to hell. This is not your older brother's Woody's. I have been going to Woodys since 1994, when I was 20 and had frequented the underage nights. This WAS the bar to go to, always a nice crowd, all diff ages of guys, an ocassional faghag and drag queen.. great music and awesome friendly bartenders. These days are OVER!!! I was there for 5 minutes last night we stopped in from Tavern to see what the crowd was like. I did not want to stay long enough to have one beer. It was very busy, with the trashiest ghetto clientele possible. I swore I walked into a bar in North Philly. A year ago the crowd was rife with too many straight women and euro-trash. This current crowd makes that seem like the good old days. The place literally smells, the carpets haven't been cleaned or replaced since the new management took over in 2007, and the place in general is beat. I would be scared to see it when the lights come up. The bartenders are straight rude dicks. I would not be surprised to read about gang issues happening at this place in the near future. Wear what you want.. some people dress up, some come in jeans and sneakers. I am over 21 and paid $2 to get in on a Wednesday night, which is 18+ night. If you're under 21, the cover is $5. Drinks are pricey.. $7 for a shot of vodka, $8 for a long island iced tea, but the drinks are very strong, honestly, so you wouldn't need many! The dance floor was crowded and sweaty. Everyone was looking to take someone home and hooking up on the dance floor.. I've never been to a club with such horny people! Men dance on poles half-naked. Pros: Cheap cover. The place is an institution. But as often happens with institutions, Woody's is experiencing some growing pains. Things have gotten awkward since Woody sold the joint to the owners of Pure. If you haven't gone yet, be warned: Woody's is a very ""stand-and-model"" sort of event. People aren't there to *see* so much as to *be seen.* It's can get exhausting. Pros: Lots of different ""types"" make up the clientele, the staff is mostly great. Cons: A couple rude bouncers, the place can get waaaaaaaaaay too crowded, sometimes the AC system isn't sufficient. more

Best cover charge, drink, dance value in the area. The crowd is nice and personable and ranges from jeans and a shirt to Philly fly - very relaxed atmosphere without being trashy. The Latin & hip hop music ranges from things you've heard before to some things you haven't, the drinks are well-mixed and mostly served with cheerfulness. Mostly men but still quite a few women come on this night. Great place to dance, come alone or with friends, be safe and not spend all your money before the weekend even starts. My friends and I ducked into Woody's after meeting disappointing crowds at other venues around the city. As four married, straight women, we were looking for a fun place to dance to great music and have a few drinks. We found a GREAT time at Woody's. We made friends 5 min. in the door and had a blast! The drinks were great, the music was the best we'd heard all night and our bartender was awesome. We were probably the only women in the place but we had a great time! I'd love to go back. Woody's is one of my more favorite bars in the city. It is a nice mix of people. Most people there on weekends are the 25-35 crowd. The weeknight crowd tends to be older, except Wednesday. The service is good. The prices are ok; it is cheaper to drink at 12th Air. Woody's is not to be overlooked. more
