Best

I love this place. The food speaks for itself. It is fresh and super good tasting. I am not a fan of curry or really spicy foods and they are always accommodating to my tastes....

Worst

The food is OK. and it is local but they are so behind the times in having a policy of cash only for take out food. Which makes no sense to me in todays times. I can go eat there ...

So behind the times 12/11/2009

The food is OK. and it is local but they are so behind the times in having a policy of cash only for take out food. Which makes no sense to me in todays times. I can go eat there and pay for it with my credit card but not be able to use my credit card if I take out food.I take my business elsewhere !!!!!!!!! Pros: Food is decent and they are local Cons: But so behind the times more

Love Won Thai 10/30/2009

I love this place. The food speaks for itself. It is fresh and super good tasting. I am not a fan of curry or really spicy foods and they are always accommodating to my tastes. I will happily keep going back..... And in defense of Won Thai.. who wants to listen to or clean up after a bunch of ill-behaved children whose parents just make excuses for them? I certainly do not. If your children can't refrain from making a mess then they should not be out eating in public. It is the parents who are rude for foisting their monsters on everyone else and expecting everone else to accomodate them. The owners here are not rude in the least. They are honest, hardworking and make some great food. The owners have every right to refuse service to such inconsiderate people and their ill behaved children.\r \r I will keep coming back Won Thai!!! Pros: Fresh and Wonderful Food Cons: Only that sometimes they are closed. more

Great People, Great Food 10/7/2009

We have been going to Won Thai for years, back to when they were located in Berkeley. \r We have brought friends, neighbors and relatives (yes, sometimes with children) to this restaurant and have never, ever had a bad experience. It is family-owned and operated and everyone is attentive and friendly. The food is wonderful, and whether you like your Thai food mild, medium or spicy, they happily prepare it to your taste.\r I totally disagree that Won Thai is ""unfriendly to children"". It is a very small space and the owner cares about ALL the customers having a pleasant time -he is not running a daycare! (Won Thai does excellent takeout as well.) Pros: Mmm...Chicken Curry Cons: No drawbacks. Just remember to call to check they are open! more

The Best Thai food in the Bay Area! 8/18/2009

We have been going to Won Thai Cuisine since they were located in Berkeley. Amazing food, wonderful people, reasonable prices. The service is outstanding and you will not find a better Thai food restaurant in the Bay Area. Pros: Family owned, fresh and tasty! Cons: call to make sure they are open! more

Excellent Thai Food 4/22/2009

All of the food is cooked to order. It is inexpensive and fresh. I have been to a myriad of other Thai food places and many times the food is too greasy, not fresh, and/or seasoned. This place was originally in Berkeley and moved to Hercules. Many of the clientele from Berkeley still travel here for the food and the great customer service. I have read some of the previous reviews and have never had a negative experience. We greatly appreciate that the owners will speak with parents that have children that are unrulely and loud. \r Pros: fresh, seasoned, authentic Thai Food Cons: busy on weekends more

Worst People Ever Met! 10/1/2008

Rude and Unappreciative of patrons. Mediocre food and service not a hospitable environment for anyone. I expect them to close their doors soon and just go away. more

UNFRIENDLY - especially to families with children 2/22/2008

We had a nice meal there as a family, the food was good, my kids were well behaved but of course my 10 month old son who self feeds dropped some rice on the floor and two spoons. I have tried to clean up after my kids before in restaurants and have always been told not to, that they would take care of it. As we were leaving after the bill was paid and tip given and my husband had walked out the door, the owner came up to me and my three children and said the rice and spoons on the floor were ""unacceptable"" and NEVER TO COME BACK. I was in shock. I called my husband back in, we removed our tip, and tried to talk to him about how this is natural for a baby to makes a mess, and if they aren't family friendly they should notify us before we eat.\r \r DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT WITH CHILDREN. IN FACT, DON'T GO THERE WITH JUST ADULTS BECAUSE I HEARD THE OWNER BEING RUDE TO PEOPLE WITHOUT CHILDREN. I tried to explain to my older children who were upset and kept saying, ""But he is just a baby"" that we need to let it go and that he is probably a very unhappy person, which from another review it sounds like he is and has good reason to be. I wish him peace. Pros: decent thai food Cons: rude and hostile service more

Attitude problem & discrimination 12/19/2007

I recommend don't come to this place as they have attitude problem and I sense discrimination for new customer as they only want to do business with their ""choosen"" customer. more

HORRIFIC BEHAVIOR 10/12/2007

I recently visited this restaurant with a friend of mine and witnessed the most HORRIFIC thing EVER!! \r \r There were a group of mothers with their adorable children that walked in. First of all the OWNER repeatedly told them he only had 1 high chair for their combined 4 children, all ranging from the ages of \r 8 months- 6 yrs old. Accidents happen, we all know this. One of the babies ACCIDENTLY dropped a glass and the glass broke. In a NORMAL restaurant, it wouldn't have been a big deal. Right? WRONG....the OWNER proceeded to walk to the table and told them they had to leave!!!! He also told them that something bad was going to happen to them because the glass broke!! Who says things like this?? The ladies looked shocked and confused...as would I. He still REFUSED to serve them and continued to ask them to leave. DISGUSTING!!!!!! \r \r I'm not from this area, but you would think we were over this kind of treatment. I saw all kinds of things in this event. Discrimination, Hate, Cruelty, Abuse, maybe Racism?? The OWNER should be ashamed of himself. \r \r *** I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT!!!*****\r p.s. The food was not that great, especially when there's HATE in the ingredients!!! That does NOT taste good AT ALL!!\r \r more

Awesome Thai Food 8/31/2007

You think you know Thai food and then you find a place like Won Thai. Absolutely delicious. Warm, friendly, personal service. And in the Pinole-Hercules-Rodeo area! Very carefully constructed broths and sauces with a depth and flavor that amazes me every time I go. Try anything, it's all great! Pros: Amazing extremely flavorful food Cons: It's in Pinole (fine for me, I live in Hercules) more

Home-style Thai cuisine 1/17/2006

Since 1985, when it was in Berkeley, Won Thai is still my favorite restaurant. Owner Mark Rattapituck and family are very gracious hosts. In over 20 years, nothing less than excellent meals. Sauces are light and fragrant, never cloying/sweet. Personal favorites: Po Pear, Hanuman Kloog Foon, Salad Koong, asparagus stir-fry, Kang Musaman. more

Favorite Thai in the East Bay. 6/13/2005

I love this place; they know me by name and I don't have to order, I can just walk in and they know what I want. A rare find in the area (Rodeo, Crockett, Hercules- an area lacking in culture). Family owned and operated. If you are a vegetarian or vegan, try the Pad Se Ew with tofu. If you like meat, I have heard that the ""Salmon Delight"" is truly delightful. Start out with an order of Po Pear and end with an order of fried bananas. Also, get an order of sticky rice with your entree. Closed on Mondays. Pros: sticky rice, thai iced tea, pad se ew more
