I can't rate Dr. Julie Martin because I never got to meet her. Her staff is incredibly rude. I was going to be a new patient and got multiple texts reminding me of a 9 a.m. appointment at the Hilltop location. When I arrived early the door was locked. I waited patiently, but called the phone number at 8:55. It said they were closed and to call back during business hours. I waited and called back shortly after 9. I explained my situation and the scheduling lady told me to drive over to their other location. As I was trying to figure out what happened and was explaining that the texts said to come to Hilltop, another patient walked in the building and was just as confused. As I was trying to figure out what made the most sense for my schedule, I asked several questions of the scheduler and she was very rude to me. I finally gave up and decided not to switch to this doctor. On my drive to work (I was now going to be 2 hours late for no benefit), I called back and dialed through to the nursing group. She was short with me and told me that unless I was an established patient the nurses wouldn't talk to me. I asked if I could just leave a voicemail for Dr. Martin. I really thought she should know how her staff was treating people, the lady put me on hold. Several minutes later, Crystal, Dr. Martin's nurse, came on the phone. I was pleasant and started explaining the situation and she said she knew all about it and if I didn't like it, I could go elsewhere. I was shocked by this rude behavior because I had been nothing but pleasant to her. I sort of laughed and said wow in my shock. She said, that's right, this is what happens when you talk to people that way. I was really taken back and said, wait, talk to people in what way and then she hung up on me. All I can say, is WOW - although customer service is declining everywhere, I've never seen something so bad as how these ladies acted. It's too bad that Dr. Martin has staff like this and is losing customers over it as appears to be the case from reading some of the other reviews today. more

I love my doctor here. I have been going to her for 8 years but the billing staff takes great pride in being as hateful and vile as possible. After I delivered my son I had a balance from the hospital. I told them I would make payments and they told me my payment amount of fifty per month on a $500 delivery bill was not sufficent. I faithfully made my payments but when I went in for my appointment the front desk would make sure they loudly announced I had a balanced and they had to have an additional payment or I could not see the doctor (this wasn't for my copayment either). After being harrassed, bullied and embarrassed in the lobby while the other front desk attendies smerked I decided enough was enough and found another a ob/gyn. Bullying someone who is dumping hormones after child birth is just suicidal. I hope someone has enough bravery to let them have it next time they attemp to embarass the patients. more

Worst staff ever with best doctor 2/28/2012

After 7 years of dealing with the staff for my favorite doctor, I have to call it quits. The office staff is so rude. Julie Martin is the best. She takes time with you, lets you know everything that is going on. With such dedication, yes, she does run late but it is worth it feel like a person instead of a number. The staff on the other hand is rude and openly opinionated. I have complained to Julie many times, and I am very sad to say that enough is enough. The billing lady is the rudest. Why on earth would you have someone work for you that yells at your patients?! more

great doctors, rude staff 7/29/2011

I have gone to this office for many years now! I see dr. mitchell. He is a great doctor and his nurse is really nice! The front desk staff is pretty good although you have to be persistent with them if you need them to do anything. You do always have a wait no matter what doctor you see. And the lady in the billings department is Very rude, it doesnt matter if you are just calling to pay a bill or check your balance she is hateful and not professional and she hangs up on people. I know of a few that have all had problems with her. more

Poor Staff Service 6/23/2011

I chose Dr Julie Martin because I thought she was personable and answered my questions. After going back to her with questions while TTC, I had to ask for certain tests to be done rather than her providing me with options. Almost deterred me from certain testing saying insurance won't pay for it - but mine does. Outside of Dr. Martin, I found the support staff to be extremely non-caring. I had gone to the testing lab on a couple of occassions and in order to get lab results you must leave a message and then wait 72 hours and hope they call you - which in my case, they never did. I got lucky and got a nice nurse who gave me results but for the 2nd round of tests I'm still waiting and got a nurse who told me to continue to wait. I think waiting more than 3 days for important test results is ridiculous.\r \r My previous doctor in Dallas, TX (way bigger city) always called me personally with results and to discuss any questions I had. I'm sure Julie Martin is busy but having a baby is a huge experience for a woman and providing information should not be that difficult. \r \r I will be switching doctors. more

Great Doctor 8/12/2008

Julie Martin is an excellent doctor who made me feel very comfortable and always allowed time for questions. It upsets me to see that someone would think that she does not value her patients time. If you think about what her job is.....she was most likely delivering someone elses baby. Her staff should have explained this and apologized, but this is not her fault and does not mean that she does not value her patients. Pros: great doctor more

WORST FACILITY EVER 5/6/2008

WOW this was my worst experience with a doctor's office EVER!! First of all I was scheduled to be the first patient of the day because of my busy work/school schedule. I made the appointment two months ahead of time to ensure this. When I arrived early as instructed I was told Dr. Julie Martin isn't in yet she'll be here shortly. The office staff was rude and impersonable and offered no explanation or apology for the delay. Then I waited an additional forty minutes in the exam room with no sign of the doctor. I finally had to leave because at 9:30 the doctor I had scheduled my 8:30 appointment with wasn't even there yet and no one offered an explanation or reason for why the doctor who had 8:30 patients wasn't even in the office an hour late. Absolutely unacceptable. They still offered no explanation or apology. I will never return to any Shawnee Mission facility. I have no desire to meet a doctor who has no respect for her patients time. Cons: Waited forever and then had to leave without being seen more

Best OBGYN EVER!!!!! 2/27/2008

I had my first baby under Dr, Julie Martin's care and I must say that she made me feel so at home everytime I went in. She always made sure that any questions I had were answered to her fullest knowledge! Although she did not actually get to deliver my baby the rest of the team at women's care took wonderful care of me. I plan to go to her again for my current pregnancy. She is so awesome that I have recommended her to two of my friends and she has delivered both of their babies! We call them the Dr. Martin Babies! LOL! She is a very wonderful doctor and she should be given a reward for what she does! Pros: The Physicians and Mid wives are excellent! Cons: The office staff could be a little more friendly more

Definitely my favorite place 6/20/2007

I delivered my first baby with Dr. Julie Martin as my MD. She was the greatest doctor I ever had. She always took as much time as I needed to ask questions, etc. She even fit us in for an appt when we really needed to get in. Unfortunately, we moved out of state, so we won't be using her for our next baby, which I'm very disappointed about. I would highly recommend her to anybody needing an OB. I have never written a review online before, but I feel so strongly about Dr. Martin that I thought I should!!!! more

Not my fav. 9/21/2006

I went to Julie for a regular check up for the first time and probably will not likely return to her. She was not personable at all, and sort of made me feel awkward. \r I find that, rather than an m.d., nurse practitioners/midwives are a lot more in tune with the patient rather than simply the diagnosis. They also seem to make you feel completely comfortable, they explain everything they're doing as they're doing it, and they are knowlegeable. \r In my opinion, Julie wasn't strong in any of these fields. more
