I decided to finally take a look at what this engineering marvel had to offer. I knew the views would be great but not this great. It was as if i had climbed Everest with an eleva...

A Whole New View 7/17/2012

Never again 7/29/2009

I expected the long wait (almost 2 hrs even though the sign said the wait would be 1 hour) and the high cost ($50 for family of 4) but after the wait & cost, I did not expect to be CRAMMED into the elevator like sardines. My 77yr old mother was with me and was being smashed. It was ridiculous. The attendant kept asking us to ""take a baby step back"". I finally yelled back at her that there was no more room and maybe some people needed to wait for the next elevator. I am a Chicago native and have visited the skydeck before but I will never go again. There was also no one there who could tell me how to address my concerns with the Skydeck management. Pros: Great views Cons: Customer service more

Cool Experience 12/17/2008

Sears Tower is absolutely one of my favorite places in Chicago. I know it is quite a ways to the top of it, where the Skydeck is so keep your eyes close if you're afraid of heights (at least until you get off the elevator). You have to pay a minimal amount to go up there but the view is amazing! more

Great view, but... 8/28/2005

Good view (not suprirising) but the view seemed just as good at the John Hancock tower likely due to the proximity of Lake Michigan. The problem with the Sears Tower Observatory is they try to make the whole experience Disney-esque by subjecting you to a 15-minute movie on Chicago prior to boarding the elevator. Make sure to sit up front and to the left when watching the movie because the doors open to the elevator there. Prior to going up, you get your picture taken and can get the photo (along with other souvenirs) after you return to ground level. more

Nice View 8/26/2004

It has a good view but if you have to choose between the Sears tower and the Hancock Building I would take the later. Another option is to do what we did the first time we went. We did the John Hancock building during the day (beautiful views of the Lake) and the Sears tower at night for a totally different look. Pros: great view more

Sears Tower and Skydeck 2/12/2004

I recently traveled to Chicago and HAD to visit the Sears Tower Skydeck. After all, it's the tallest building in the US. BUT, after purchasing the Chicago CityPass, I visited the John Hancock Building Observatory. The view is more spectacular than at Sears. ""Big John"" also has an outside terrace where you can feel the Chicago cold, as well as hear all the Chicago sounds. The best part is a 'take your own photo' set of Washing the Windows at Big John. My friends and I had a blast just acting silly. It was one of our favorite souvenirs of our Chicago trip. When visiting definitely visit Big John! Pros: inexpensive, history more

SOOOOO COOL 1/26/2004

I enjoyed going up in the SEARS TOWER. I am active duty NAVY therefore it was/is free for us. I cannot get enough of a view of it. I have been in it three times and i loved it each time. The view is magnificant and the people are great. It is worth the wait. Pros: VIEW, INTERACTION, HISTORY Cons: PRICE, LONG LINES/WAIT more

toweriffic! 8/8/2002

the best place to get a wonderful bird's eye view of the city-and four states on a clear day! would recommend it highly to all my out of town friends and family. Pros: accessable Cons: crowded more

excellent 7/26/2002

Great experience, and a must do, as it represents Chicago. Pros: Expense, reasonable, easy Cons: need good weather, no snacks, no place to rest more

sears tower 7/26/2002

Sears tower is a lot of fun to see because of its importance as a widely known landmark, and because of the amazing views. Chicago is a truly great city and the skydeck allows you to see it all from one of the best perspectives: from above. Pros: whole family can enjo, see the entire city, facilities are great Cons: needs better parking more

Enjoy the View 7/9/2002

Living within 60 miles of Chicago, I visit often. The Sears Tower is a must see at least once a year for me. No matter what the season or time of day, I am always impressed. more

Not just for tourists... 6/27/2002

The best view of the city is accessible to everyone. You don't have to be a tourist to enjoy the Sears skydeck. It's pretty amazing - on a clear day, I swear you can see the Mississippi. If you don't mind watching a little Opra video on the tour, I would say it's a great thing to do - at least once. more

Wow, what a view! 6/11/2002

I was taken to the Sears Skydeck when I was visiting your lovely city. I'll have to admit the ride up was a bit uneasy. The elevator lifts off and your ears pop about two or three times. They also PACK each elevator to the top and on the way down as well. Which makes the ride a little uncomfortable. But once you're at the top, the view is spectacular. Chicago's history and facts line the walls in the center of the floor. Exhibits for small children and adults a like give a glimpse into Chicago's past. All the way around is a breath taking view of the city and lake. A must do if you're visiting Chicago. Pros: Historic Facts, View, For the Family Cons: PACKED Elevator Ride more

Oh, that elevator ride... 6/5/2002

Yeah, it's pretty cool once you get to the top, but the ride up gives me the heebie-jeebies. You're squeeze into an elevator and it's ripping skyward. No doubt it's just me, but I get claustrophobic. The view at the top is unreal -- up among the clouds and you can see the whole city. Be forewarned, though, it's pretty pricey -- both for the tickets and especially for the parking. Pros: What a view! Cons: Tough ride up more

AWESOME VIEW 6/4/2002

YOU CAN SEE THE ENTIRE CITY OF CHICAGO AND MORE!!! more

Chicago girl 6/3/2002

Take a ride to the top and look out at the views, then look down! Fun for any kid or tourist. more

Pretty Nice View From Here 5/30/2002

Whenever you visit the Chicago area I would definitely recommend that you visit the Sears Towers, if you don't mind viewing Chicago from the tallest building in the city area. Here you can see soldier field and the river that cuts through the city of Chicago. You can also get a good view of the Michigan River. more

out of the way, but good for visitors 5/16/2002

There's not much else going on down in this neighborhood, but it's pretty cool to go up to the top of this building--once the world's tallest--and take a look down at the city below. It takes a special trip; if you're pressed for time, do the Hancock instead. But get there early. more

My View 5/9/2002

In my view I have been there and it is spectacular ! The view is amazing on a clear day and if your like me even on a cloudy day the way light hits the clouds will take your breath away. Pros: the view Cons: really high up more
