What a Disappointment 10/17/2009

M was a complete disappointment. From the service, to the settings, straight down to the food, M was disappointing across the spectrum. When I entered, the hostess refused to look up from her screen and instead continued to type. I awkwardly waited for minutes, trying to make eye contact with her or with another member of the wait staff. I was finally greeted by another server, who picked up on my frustrations. Once seated, my server rushed through the specials, which continued to be a theme throughout the night. My server would either be rushed while he was present, or nowhere to be seen. My date saw a Sam Adams at another table and he asked the server what kind of beers they served. Our server chuckled at him, then jeered ""we do not have any beers on tap."" Embarrassed, that was not what my date was asking. I was seated with a view straight into the wait staff's kitchen exit. My date faced an ugly glass exit. The bathroom to M (out in the lobby) is shared by an proximal gallery. It looks exactly like a girl's high school bathroom. My date and I ordered one thing from every section of the menu. I would like to say I was very impressed with the drinks, but that was all. The sushi and cocktail shrimp were nothing extraordinary. My date ordered the Kansas City strip steak medium rare and it came out raw. ( I am not exaggerating). I ordered the Chilean Sea Bas, whose taste was like that of dull catfish. We also tried the lobster mashed potatoes. These were the consistency of reconstituted freeze-dry flake potatoes with masses amounts of butter and overcooked lobster in them. The manager stopped by our table and asked how everything was. I said ""It's good..."" and he haltingly walked off before I could finish. When I was recommended M by a friend; M was embedded in a list of other restaurant choices. I am highly disappointed with the choice I made. I will not be returning nor will I be recommending M to anyone I know. Cons: bad staff, poor quality food, terrible manners. you name it. more

Unbelievably terrible 2/21/2009

To the user who posted the last entry titled ""Top Notch!"" on 2/5/09- you aren't fooling anyone....You are clearly someone affiliated with M restaurant- next time try to make your post more believable and less robotic sounding. I guess business has gotten so bad that you have to come on here to try and drum up business. But you need not look any further than your rude and inept staff or your brain dead unskilled management for the reasons behind the mass exodus from your now-terrible establishment. This restaurant has become a place to be treated like garbage as a customer and to get a sub-par meal. Bravo, you really have outdone yourselves, M. Cons: Rude service, poor meal presentation, terrible food. And they will try to give you the cheap alcohol when you order the good stuff..... more

Top Notch! 2/5/2009

My husband and I recently celebrated my birthday at M and it exceeded both of our expectations! The drinks at the bar were unique and delicious, our server was knowledgable and made great reccomendations on food and wine, and our dinners were some of the best we've ever had! Overall, it was a birthday to remember because of the staff at M and we will definitely return again and again! more

Worst Service in Columbus 1/2/2009

We went to M recently to celebrate New Year's Eve as well as my wife's birthday, and the entire experience was ruined by the terrible service. We had two tables of 10 people, so we were a large group. However, the two tables had separate servers, and both servers delivered beyond poor service. The table my wife and I were at did not receive entrees until 40 minutes after the other table, and not once did anyone come by to refill waters. At one point I had to raise my voice and flail my arms to get the attention of our aloof and disinterested server, yet she ignored me. We remained polite with the servers even until the end, at which point we voiced our grievances- usually you will get an apology and a deduction from the bill of some kind as a sign of good faith- however none of the above occurred. No apology, nothing. In fact, the server's excuse for the delay in delivery of our entrees was b/c ""the birthday girl had ordered a drink"". I am still puzzled by this response, but even more puzzling is how she was able to put a HAND WRITTEN +20% tip onto the tab for her terrible service. In all fairness, the manager is as much to blame. Once management was notified, they did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to fix the situation. TERRIBLE SERVICE, I AM NEVER GOING BACK, AND THERE ARE AT LEAST 19 OTHER PEOPLE WHO NOW FEEL THE SAME WAY. more

Good Food, Poor Service 5/12/2008

My wife and I recently went to M for a nice dinner on our anniversary. Overall, the food was good, although maybe a bit overpriced. As others have said, the roasted tomato soup was EXCELLENT, and the sushi and ahi tuna I ordered were very good, with nice presentation and just the right portion size. However, as we found out, this is not the place to go if you want a great steak - Ruth's Chris is much better. The restaurant did know it was our anniversary, so they covered 2 free desserts for my wife and I, which was a nice touch. more

You've got to try it 4/25/2008

We went to M to celebrate my parents 39th anniversary. We had a couple amazing signature cocktails from their list while we waited for our table. The atmosphere is energetic but relaxing and inviting. Our server was one of the best in the city. Everything was timed perfectly. The Kobe burgers and sushi were the best apps we've ever had. Try the veal or tghe tuna or the chef's feature for dinner. The blending of sauces, spices and protien were unreal. Everthing we had we didn't think it could get any better and It did. My hats off to the staff at M. The manager even stopped by to say hello and wish my parents a happy anniversary. more

Outstanding food - but not worth the wait! 3/22/2008

The food was outstanding from the Kobe beef burger appetizer to the cocoa/coffee encrusted filet but even if you make a reservation for 7:30pm, you have to sit in the bar area for a while to increase the chances of you purchasing a few cocktails and then aren't seated until 9pm. We thought if you had a reservation for 7:30pm then you would be seated at that time - so patrons be aware that you're in for a very LONG night. Pros: great food Cons: poor service regarding time from reservation/arriving to actual seating time more

Oh This Place is SOOOOO Good! 11/13/2007

Food: Awesome! Best in Columbus, easily. Pros: Food, Drinks, Atmosphere Cons: None! more

worth every penny! 9/29/2007

Dining at M makes me feel as though I've temporarily left Columbus and landed in NYC/Boston. If you are planning an expensive dinner, this is the place to go to in Columbus. The design is modern yet elegant. We had a party of seven and were seated in the wine barrel room which provided a very intimate setting that was necessary for our 50th birthday celebration. (I noticed that the seating throughout the restaurant was well spaced and also seemed like the perfect venue for a romantic dinner) The service was impeccable in every aspect, including the bartender, servers, and our waitress, who gladly entertained our somewhat drunken states The food was superb, satisfying three generations of guests with no complaints. I loved everything I ordered, including the roasted tomato soup, three cones lobster appetizer, and the fillet mignon (steak in a bowl). Pros: incredible food and service Cons: restricted to vallet parking more

An awesome experience! 1/19/2007

My husband and I enjoy a fine meal and dont mind paying for it. We love ALL of Cameron Mitchell's restaurants, but we both agreed that this could easily be our new favorite. ONLY drawback, we waited about 5 minutes to be seated...(Hostess was MIA) after that, everything went up hill. Our server Molly was knowledgable, very friendly. I had a ribeye. Seriously, it is probably one of the top two ribeyes I have had in Columbus. Atmosphere was very chic. Lighting was very subtle. Husband had the Lamb and was more then impressed. For dessert I ordred the Bread Pudding. I have tried Bread pudding all over the country (my favorite dessert), and this was by far, one of the top ones I have had...Expensive, YES, but well worth a trip once in a while. This may very well be our new top spot...As good as Ruths Chris, Lindys, etc...And maybe even better. Put Smith and Wollensky to SHAME!!!! Pros: Everything Cons: Price more

Romantic Date Night 11/16/2006

My boyfriend took me there for our anniversary and it was amazing. The portions are pretty big so if you want a side dish I would suggest sharing. The service was outstanding and the decor is very low light chic. Ask NOT to be sat near the door though. You get interrupted by everyone coming and going. Pros: ambiance more

Best Steak in a bowl anywhere 6/11/2006

I love the atmosphere, and the service is amazing, I do have to say that it may be expensive, but hey this place is worth it Pros: Great ambience more

Went for my birthday dinner, the staff very warm friendly. The food!!! I had the filet and it was so tender and the lobster mashed potatoes!!!! I will definately be back there many more times to try out the rest of the menu. So hip and trendy. I am from San Francisco and this looks like it could be there. Pros: food excellent, great staff, great wine list more

saucy place with soft attitude 12/14/2005

my husband and i went to m for our anniverary, we were very pleased. as we walked back to our table, we passed several tables seperated by flowy, sheer white curtains and a swank bar that had a flat screen tv and little art deco lights that changed colors. our table was also under the lights, so our food and wine were always changing colors...but very slowly and softly. the only thing about the decor were the chairs, too office-y, and some of the art on the walls were too hotelish. black or purple velvet chairs would have been better! food was sexy to eat....get the liquid chocolate cake. Pros: swanky lights, great food, friendly servers Cons: office-like chairs more

Upscale, trendy and delicious! 10/4/2004

M is an absolutely superb dining experience. The most upscale, and unquestionably, best restaurant of local restauranteur Cameron Mitchell offers diners in Columbus a very upscale, trendy and unique experience. Located in the lobby of the sophisticated and upscale Miranova Place, M boasts a comprehensive wine list, diverse offerings and a great after-work bar. This restaurant adds a very cosmopolitan element to the Columbus social scene, and doesn't compromise the quality of food and service. Among my favorites on the menu include the lobser cone appetizer - a lobster-filled sesame cone adorned with caviar. M is the perfect setting for a dinner, be it romantic, a gathering of friends or a business function. Every visit to M is a unique dining experience. Pros: Amazing dishes, Trendy scene, Good martinis Cons: , Need reservations more

A Great Place 9/17/2004

It was a great place to get back together with a friend, I hadn't seen in awhile. It was quiet on the patio, and we were able to have a great evening together. My friend felt at home, after she had been a way for awhile, and told me she had a great evening. more

From NYC... 1/29/2004

M is definitely one of the premiere restaurants our city has to offer. In fact, it is ahead of time in Columbus. Make sure to make a reservation, alerting the hostess to not seat you at the table near the front entrance. It feels as though you are eating in the lobby and it's next to the bus station. Definitely not what one would expect at an upscale restaurant. If you want a taste of the Big City in Little Columbus, then head to M in downtown Columbus. Pros: Food, Bar, Ambiance more

Great Ambiance & Service, Good Food 1/22/2003

I went to M on my birthday. We loved the decor, the food was very good (the crab cake appetizer - excellent) and service also very good. One bad thing - we got stuck with the table by the front door. Not that there was a draft or excessive noise but I did a walk around and noticed better/more private seating in the back. Lesson 1 - when making reservations ask for a table in the back. Also, M is located in the lobby of an office building and the restaurant bathrooms are in the lobby of the office building - they were clean but I thought that was weird. Pros: Ambiance, Service, Food Cons: expensive more

everyone here is treated like royalty... 9/12/2002

""M"" is hands-down the best restaurant in Columbus. The service is flawless - I've dined in all of the ""top 10"" restaurants in Columbus & none come close. Chef Henshaw's menu & daily specials are incredible We are fortunate to have such a talent here in our city - His food would be rated #1 in any big city across the globe. It is not that expensice. Don't wait for a special occasion - try ""M"" just once - you will be amazed & anxious to return - as AM I! Pros: AFFORDABLE, DAILY SPECIALS, AFFORDABLE more
