Wiley's Gun Shop

I have no idea why there is such a difference in ratings on this shop. The Gun Shop was average at best ... with a fair selection of weapons displayed and for sale. The prices were nothing to write home about - average to high. I bought a Marlin .308 ($391.00) with a Redfield 4-12X42mm scope ($211.00) @ $602.00, I'm within $75.00 pos/neg. I was looking for the 26""barrel XL7 so, I'm okay with it. But I've been to gun shows and shops all over ... and spent 22+ years in the U.S.Army - I've talked with alot of people that know guns. I was not impressed with the help/staff at all. They were less that helpful and tried to talk down to me as if this was my first rodeo. The person that actually helped me the most - knew the least (had to asked other staffers for information). Some of the opinionated advice that was given (unasked for) was offered as if the guy knew something no one else could be privy to (and was wrong!). Looked at the range to temper and zero the Marlin - FORGET IT!!! (read sig226 - 26 Sep 2011). The sign was posted off the Interstate (I20) and I was needing a break - Gun shop was okay. Prices not all that. Staff treated you as a stranger. Range sucked. Info exchange was less than that of some one from Academy sports. Only ones writting good reviews of this gun shop are locals that don't have a real shop to compare to. Sorry ... just not impressed! more

The range master is extremely helpful and one of the best instructors you will ever find who will spend hours teaching a newbie or visiting with the old-hands. The staff is highly knowledgeable and helpful. It is a well respected establishment and one where visitors and customers are treated with a friendly welcome and down home atmostphere. more

Came in from out of town and decided to visit the local gun range. Went in to the gun shop and registered and looked around and I was impressed. It stopped there. I had to buy my own targets for my friend and I( all the gun ranges that I have been to include one free cheap bulls eye target to shoot at), then I went to the range. What a disappointment. Looked old and decrepid. First, the pistol range was 25 yds. with distance increments of normal ranges, but there was no target stands to move for the person at whatever distance he/she would like to shoot at. Then, you could only shoot at one distance if everyone agreed with it. So much for shooting at 3/7/10 yards. Rifle shooters were shooting at 25 yds. on the pistol range. Not where I'm from. Then, to shoot your rifle at 50 or 75 yds., you moved over to the rifle shed and there was one steel target stand at the end of the big dirt hill on the corner to shoot at. Only one person could shoot a rifle at a time at one target. A few could at 100 yds. which was normal.This was ridiculus. This range was something out of the old west days. You had to use tape to put your target up with. They didn't want to have individual target stands to move back and forth or a wire pully set up to bring back and forth. This was real backwoods stuff and I wouldn't recommend anyone to visit this place. The one star I gave it was the gun shop that looked super nice. I brought my friend to shoot my AR and revlover, and it was very disappointing. I should have took a pic and posted it, I won't go back. They need to step up with the times; visit a big city range and adapt. This was bad. more

I walked in the store and noticed that they had a sale on the M&P 15 for $1200. I bought the same rifle at Academy for $900. I also saw a Galil Golani .223 for $895, and I've found them online for $599. The guy refused to budge on the price. If you don't mind paying more, then go there. I rather shop around and pay less. more

I have bought, sold, and traded a number of guns at this shop, and I feel like I have always gotten good deals, fair trades, and honest treatment. It's a ways out in the country, in a rural setting, but that's fine because it has that ""down home country"" feel. I really enjoy doing business there, and I would recommend this shop to anyone needing firearms, ammo, or supplies. They also have a gun range adjacent to the shop, and can do some smithing on site. Pros: Friendly staff, great selection, good prices, fair trades Cons: It's out in the country a ways, but not too far more

In 1973 my parents bought a farm in East Texas; I was 12 years old. For 34 years while traveling I 20 I can always remember seeing Wileys Gun Shop sign and always wanted to stop. At the age of 46 I finally did. I originally stopped just to look and to check if they might have clips for a pistol that has been out of production for 30 years. After a few minutes of looking; she returned with 2. As I was about to pay I was asked ""What?s your hurry. Look around. ?I did and ended up buying a Springfield 1911 .45. Now that my long winded story is over..... Any store that has been open for 35 years must be doing something right! I am not a frequent purchaser of firearms. but any future purchases will be from Wileys. If you?re just out for a drive and see the sign; stop by. You will scratch your head wondering where the place is, but keep going; you will find it. more

I sold some guns to Wiley's in Jan. 2007 and was pleased with how easy we came to an agreement about pricing. Fairness is what I wanted and fairness is exactly what I got. All employees seemed very ""gun"" knowledgable and everyone was friendly. They have a great repair shop and a gun range as well. I would definately go back to sell or to buy from their huge selection of firearms. more
