My husband and I stopped by to browse recently, and a saleswoman offered to clean and inspect a ring I was wearing while we shopped. I've had this done at other stores, but this time it seemed to take much longer, about 20 minutes. She finally returned with the ring but said the jeweler had noticed a loose diamond. It wasn't loose, it completely popped out! I was amazed, because the ring was nearly new and the stones were firmly set. Almost immediately, the saleswoman told me they could fix it for $85. It seemed a bit odd, so we left (strangely, she did not give me her card). I took the ring to another jeweler near my home, who, without knowing what had happened, said, "I cannot figure out how this came out, the ring is not damaged." She charged me $30 to reset the stone and polish it. Did Wick & Greene deliberately remove the stone? I cannot say, but the experience left me very unsettled.
