Strongly recomended avoid business with the store. I took my Umbrella Cockatoo to have his nails clipped. According to an agreement with the store; if you buy birds the nails, wings and beak will be treated for free as long as needed. I always was skeptical about how the store owner cuts the birds nails, it was always too much blood and painful for the bird and takes 2-3 days for the bird to recover, so before he started I ask him very politely not to cut my bird nails so deep. The owner of the store got very upset by my request and cut my bird nail so deep that the blood start dripping from the birds nail and it hurts the bird so bad that he starts shaking and screaming. Then I asked him: “Please do not hurt the bird.” He became angrier and refused to do the work and in a very bad manner abruptly put the bird back into the cage with the blood still dripping from his nail and asked me to leave. I begged the owner to help my bird with the bleeding, but he kept yelling at me and repeatedly insisted to take the bird and leave the store immediately or he will call the police. I was confused and shocked. I saw a lot of blood on the bottom of the cage and became very concern about safety of my bird, because blood loss is extremely dangerous to birds, as they have very little blood volume in their body and plus they can easy catch an infection. I didn’t have any hope with a help from the store and left with the bleeding bird and called the police for help. more

People confuse this store with Bird & Cage Warehouse about 5 miles further down 94. I love Wholesale Bird & Cage, and it is where we have got all our birds from which are 2 Macaws, 2 Cockatoos, and 2 Cockatiels. They do not breed birds at the store. The pluckers you see there or birds that look ruff ARE RESCUES THEY TAKE IN TO FIND HOMES!!! One of our macaws from there was a rescue they took in. Wholesale Bird & Cage works very closely with with STAR, and other bird rescue places. The head of STAR even works their one day a week, Their toys are awesome, and are really low priced. They also have the best cages we have been able to find let alone they will custom order ones for you also. They have hundreds of types of toys in front, and in back. They have I don't even know how many perches and playstands which they will even make them to your custom specifications if you want. They even have Java Wood Trees really cheap. They are the only place in the area that carries Java wood trees not just the little table top stands. We got a 7 foot tall Java Wood tree for our Macaws from their, and are going to go back and get more for our other birds. Dave the owner of Wholesale Bird & Cage has been breeding selling, rescuing, and training birds for 41 years. He hasn't bred birds in many years so the people talking about the stores breeder cages, and breeding conditions don't know what they are talking about because they don't breed them, and why would the head of the largest avian rescue group in the area work their once a week if it was such a bad place?\r \r People confuse this store for Bird & Cage Warehouse which is down 94 more at Central School Rd. by that bad apartment complex, and liquor store. I know at first I did also. Please don't confuse these two. Bird & Cage Warehouse has had the Health Department called on them, has horrible conditions that they keep birds in. more

I would have to agree. I went in there once and that was enough for me. Will never go there again. more

At first I was like ""wow this place is great"", but then I looked behind the surface. In the back where they keep all the cages you will find a wall of supplies. Behind that wall I found three cages of birds. The two I could identify was a Sun Conure and either a nanday or jenday. These two birds were crammed into a small cage for breeding purposes. Proper care of a Conure tells you that the cage should be around 36""x28""x34"" for one medium sized Conure. This cage was about half that.. No toys, just food dishes and that's it. I think there was quakers in the cage (same size) next to them but I can't be sure. However, the most horrific thing was the two Macaws they had. They were in a cage that was the proper size but the birds literally had 1 water dish, 1 food dish, and one perch. That's it, no toys, nothing else. The birds were so scared they had plucked all their feathers off. Trust me at first I wondered if there was something I was missing. Perhaps I misunderstood the situation but I asked other breeders about this and they said those conditions were terrible. I will not shop at a store that uses these ""mill"" type breeding methods. It only makes you wonder how truely ""hand fed"" your babies will be. Also given how they are bred I could not buy a baby from this store knowing the conditions. I give it 1 star because you can't give zero. more

Absolutely awesome bird store! 8/21/2008

This store is the best! Bill and everyone is always so helpful. Their prices on cages and accessories and even birds can't be beat. They have a huge selection of birds, from the very small to large parrots. They really know what they are doing and are always willing to show you around or answer any questions you have. We bought our blue and gold macaw from them, and we will definitely be giving this store our business in the future. more
