Cannot believe this company remains in business! I used to intern in TV and we had several people call us to complain about being ripped off by these guys. Believing the same crew could not possibly be running this joint so many years later, I stopped in about a month ago. Their $30 ""special"" turned into over $100 and they refused to give the parts they allegedly replaced. Now my mower doesn't work at all, and they refuse to fix anything or even so much as look at it again! All those people they were ripping off in the 90's were right and I was wrong for giving these guys a chance. I guess they stay in business because everyone in White Oak does business with them.... once. more

Rip Off and shoddy work 5/21/2012

I take my mower in there every february for a ""tune-up"" to get it ready for the season. They are supposed to change the oil, sharpen blades, make sure it starts easily, etc. 6 mows into the season on less than 1/2 acre, I can't pull my cord to start the mower. First they tell me since I had work done on it recently, there will be no charge for diagnosis. Then they call back and say it will be $39.00 to diagnosis and no guarantee that they can fix it. Ten days later they call back and say the mower is done. When I asked what was wrong they said it was low on oil. To me it sounds like $39 to diagnosis they didn't properly fill the oil after my so called oil change. No way it could have burnt thru the oil in that time as little as I used it since their ""tune-up"". Will not be going back!!! more

what a crook 5/9/2012

what a crook. i took my mower in for an estimate to get it running again after the starter cord broke. they quoted me $90, citing how it was going to need a whole new starter assembly and the part alone cost $65. i thought that didn't sound right so i got on youtube, watched a 2 minute video showing how to replace the rope. i bought the new rope for $4.95 and replaced it myself with absolutely zero expertise. they said they couldn't simply replace the rope when i asked why it needed a whole new assembly, something about being bound up...blah blah blah. they couldn't really give me a good reason. it took me only 10 minutes to do and i found they had not even opened the top of the mower, because the caked on dirt was covering the bolts. i hate this place. i had to call them back to get the estimate and i had to call back after being put on hold over 15 minutes. i was the only person in the store when i picked it up and it took them 20 minutes just to check me out. lame. more

5 Year Echo Warranty 4/23/2012

I have bought from white oak Lawn mower for many years, and have regretted doing so, I bought two Echo chain saws CS 341. The first saw lasted till the warranty ran out, the second CS 341 started to give me problems, and returned it to them under the 5 year warranty, I was told that I had to pay them $30 00 for them to even look at the saw, and the owner said the warranty did not cover parts, DUH This is a Echo warranty, don't think so. Needless to say I will never buy from this Echo dealer again more

Hated to give this joint one star! Unfortunately I had no choice, unlike you do before taking any of your lawn equipment to this so called mower repair shop! If you want to deal with a snarky, bitter, down talking owner then this is the shop for you...otherwise steer clear. more

Customer Service SUCKS!!! WAY OVERPRICED 4/11/2012

Had heard good things about White Oak Mower shop and wow was I surprised when the OWNER was such an ASS and totally unprofessional. Took my push mower that was a 2007 Toro in for repair when the pull-chord broke and paid $59 upfront. 2 weeks after sitting on the mower and not fixing it he calls me to say it was going to be $139 to fix it!!! I had only paid $349 for it BRAND new back in 2007--- more

Been going to this shop for years the best price in town. Two years ago I had a friend that was having his daughters graduation party his riding mower broke just days before the party, I recommened he take it to them. They were extremley busy but were able to get him in within a days time totally understood his situation. They even had one of their drivers go across town to get a part needed for his repair so they could finish that day for him. I didn't learn until recently that the ""Older Man"" has been there for 35 plus years. Being a veteran and learning he himself is veitnam vet I will continue to do my business with them. With anything I take in for repair whether its my lawnmower my car ect I always ask questions about the price of service costs before I drop off so I know what to expect. Just like when I buy parts for random things at the house I ask what the return policy is before I purchase. I have always been greeted with a smile at times even with a laugh. more

WORKING ON IT 8/1/2011

Last year I wrote the review below, and gave these guys 1 star. When the place I'd been taking my mower to instead closed, I decided to give White Oak another try. I believe they've taken these comments to heart and are making an effort to improve their customer service. ********************************************************* A couple years ago I was drawn in by an outdoor sign advertising a special on spring lawnmower service for $39.95. When I came to pick up my serviced mower, I got a bill for $65. When I mentioned the discrepancy to the guy behind the counter (the older gentleman other reviewers have mentioned), he got pissy, said the price was for labor only, and then added, as if I should have already known this when I walked into his shop for THE FIRST TIME, ""been doing it like this for years."" I said he should add a note to his sign that said ""labor only"" and he just looked at me coldly. I said every other lawnmower service I'd ever heard of included the oil, filter, and spark plugs in the advertised cost, and then I walked out. Won't be walking back in, either. more

Overpriced, ripped off 12/17/2010

Went to this place to get parts for an MTD snowblower. Bought 2 shear bolts, they charged me 5.95 for each bolt. I found out from another service shop that they charged 2.25 per bolt. I tried to return them, but they do not give refunds on parts even though never been used. My suggestion is pull up the mfg of your product online and call around town. They also quoted me some parts and they were alot more expensive through them. more

Frustrating 4/15/2010

We are on the third try now to get them to fix our mower so it will start. After the first try, they basically made me feel like I would have been able to start it if I wasn't a dumb girl. (No, they didn't actually say that, but it was implied.) After we took it home that time, my husband also unsuccessfully tried to start it. We have returned it again. Now that I've read the other reviews I'm a little concerned about when we might get it back! Cons: Insulting, not helpful, difficult to reach more

Poor Service Department 2/22/2010

I brought my mower in last year while it was blowing smoke and overheating. They convinced me that it needed a tune up and oil change. $60 later I brought it home the next week and had the same problem with the mower. Feeling taken advantage of I took it back and they were more than willing to look at it again. Another week and a few phone calls later they were able to tell me that the engine was shot. I fought to get my $60 for the tune up back based on a poor diagnosis from the get go, but they pretty much threw me out. So they got my $60 and I ended up with nothing but a chip on my shoulder. Don't go here! more

Quality of work 12/27/2009

I agree that the communication is bad here, and the attitude is chippy at best by anyone other the lady at the desk. However, that being so, my jobs have always been completed in less time than they promised, and for the quoted price or less. If their repairs do not work, which has only happened once in twenty years, they immediately corrected it in one day. Pros: Service Cons: Communication more

Poor customer service 6/1/2009

Long lead times on even looking at your mower and overall poor customer service make this a business I would never use again. I ended up picking my mower up because it hadn't even been looked at in 7 working days and they couldn't tell me when it MIGHT be looked at.
