My child attended this daycare for a total of 18 months. There were a series of events that gave me concern culminating with the following: 1) making my child go through the trash at a public bowling alley because another child accused him of throwing his bowling shoes away. He hadn’t. When I asked the co-owner (Judy Whale) about it, her response was “it’s not like he was punished for it”, and 2) children (6 yrs of age and younger) playing games on tablets that are not age appropriate (rated T). The co-owner Bill Whale’s response “I’m not going to sanitize my program for 1 child”. That’s their level of care for your child. I complained about these events (and others) on a Tuesday. On Wednesday we were informed that we would have to find a new daycare by Monday. Bill Whale loves to toot his horn about the videos he makes of the children and gives to the families. The one he provided to us in Dec. 2016 included a song with the F word and the N word… more

After several years of my mother watching my children I finally put them into a daycare. I was really nervous & unsure at first but the owners & staff at WSPT are absolutely wonderful! My children love it there & I rest a sure knowing they are well taken care of. They provide great food & activities as well as some field trips & their summer program is great. I would recommended them for your choice in daycare 100%! I am glad I did. more

This is a wonderful daycare center. My child has been there a little over a year now and loves going to play and learn with her friends. I was very afraid at first to send her to ""daycare"", but now have no fears:). The owners and staff there are very friendly and helpful with any questions or concerns I have had. They have many different activities for the kids which is wonderful, it helps me to know that she is having a fun time learning and playing while I am at work. The center is always very clean and offers an excellent menu, I wish I could eat breakfast and lunch there! I wish that I did not have to work, but in the meantime while I do, I am so grateful to have found such a wonderful place to send my child too. It is a great feeling picking her up so happy and telling us what a great day she had. I would recommend Whales Snails and Puppy Dog Tails to anyone that wants to have the comfort of knowing your child is in caring, loving hands while you are at work! more

I had my son at WSPT for many years until he started kindergarten this fall. I have to say he couldn't have gotten a better education or care. They have a structured educational program for all ages, and their teachers do a great job keeping parents updated on the kids progress. The owners, Bill & Judy truly care about the families. Bill is a great cook and makes many homemade meals for the kids. He also makes the best cookies!\r A great family environment. more

Wish I Was a Kid Again!! 3/21/2012

WSPT is by far the best daycare that my kids have ever been in. The hurtful review written couldn't be further from the truth! My kids have been attending WSPT for about 3 years now and they LOVE IT there! Most days when I go to pick them up and they are playing outside or inside with toys, they don't want to leave! That speaks volumes-you know you've found a great place for your kids when they want to stay. The curriculum is educationally based and also includes "fun" activities. The crafts the kids make are so cute. Both my kids were in the pre-school program and when they started kindergarten, both teachers at the elementary school said how advanced they were for their age. I credit the instruction they received at WSPT. I love the special things Mr. Bill does for both the parents and the kids. From the videos he makes to the homemade cookies that he gives to the kids and parents, just shows what a caring and thoughful person he is. Yes, my kids get a cookie before we go home, but t more

Look No Further, You've Found the BEST!!! 3/18/2012

I am a retired teacher of 38 years. I consider myself an expert in recognizing quality child care. WSPT is the best daycare facility I have ever seen which would include two that I worked for several years ago. The staff is very professional, loving and caring toward every child. The program design at every age level is excellent and the needs and talents of each child is taken very seriously and catered to by the well trained staff. The owners, Bill and Judy Whales, are there for the children and the parents. Mr. Bill, as the children call him, is always found baking, cooking, cleaning, playing with the kids, taking kids on field trips or for ice cream., communicating with parents ,and more! Miss Judy is always helping with children, taking care of office work, communicating with parents. She always makes a parent/grandparent feel secure and that she will take all the time you need to talk to her about your child's needs and progress. Excellent is not a good enough description more

Best daycare around !! 3/15/2012

WE LOVE this daycare. I have three children and this is the BEST daycare we have came across in 8 yrs. I have read the negative review.... I'm not sure that this person that wrote it has the right daycare. Judy and Bill are wonderful !!! And I mean that I have been at other daycares in the area and there the wife was so mean. This is not Judy she ALWAYS talks to me and my childern I can come to her with anything. As far as the toys ?? This is a daycare right ?? There should be toys everywhere. I love this daycare and would never leave !! more

Best daycare in town - Others have tried, but few succeed as WSPT! 3/15/2012

As a retired Reading Specialist, Lead Teacher, and Literacy Coach of 30 yrs., THIS is the daycare I've chosen for both of my grandsons. I am impressed by the educational skills the boys have enthusiastically shared with me at the end of their day. I have found WSPT to have a well balanced schedule of teaching sessions and creative play sessions supported by lesson plans. In my years of teaching and as a classroom consultant, I've seen many early education classrooms stifle creativity with ridged idealism at the expense of child development. What an unpracticed eye may interpret as kids "playing all over the floor, toys everywhere," is actually clusters of children of varying age playing together in creative teacher supervised play. This format provides many teachable moments for younger children without older siblings. I'm pleased each day to read the "end of day report" (with a small piece of candy reward attached), so that I may follow-up on my grandson's behavior and activities. I'v more

Home away from Home 3/15/2012

WSPT is my children's Home away from Home. We feel like we are part of a huge family at WSPT. I just read the negative review and I am so saddened by it. So what if there are toys all over the room, that means my child is playing and not sitting around doing nothing. My daughters pre-school teacher is amazing and so patient with my daughter and works with us all the time on so many things. Bill and Judy -- Judy is anything but unfriendly, she is so easy to talk to and so understanding, you can see her love for the children and Bill is so wonderful with the kids - he's a big kid himself. I have had my children as WSPT for years and would never think of another pre-school/daycare program. They are so loving and nurturing. There is nothing wrong with a child having some cookies or cake for a snack, especially when it's homemade cake. I am a single mom of two kids and this daycare center has been a bleesing to me and my kids. Mr Bill and Mrs Judy treat my kids as if they were their own. My kids love them and love the center. I thank God every day for having such a loving, caring, friendly, safe enviroment for my kids to go so I can work. Keep up the good work. more

WSPT is THE BEST!!! 3/14/2012

WSPT is THE BEST daycare in the area. I am EXTREMELY protective of my son, and they are the only ones I ever have or will leave him with. Yes, they may seem unorganized, but that's because they don't put the toys away until every single child leaves! And the Owner/Wife is anything but unfriendly; when there was a traffic accident on 83 and I couldn't get to my child before 6, it was Miss Judy herself that stayed with the kids and my son couldn't have been more content! I recently broke my wrist; the owners were even willing to work out a payment plan with me since I was out of work for a while! And, WSPT is NOT the only daycare in town, just the best! Who else would provide accredited teachers, all inclusive meals, snacks and field trips, and even a DVD of all the years' events?! I love WSPT and anyone who says different is out of their mind!!! more

Great center for Kid to PLAY! 3/14/2012

Whales, Snails, and Puppy Dog Tails is a great child care center for any child, including my 19 month old son! He has been at WSPT since he was 7 weeks old and I returned to work as the preschool teacher! I personally open the center at 6:30 every morning, which is the time we open for business, where the children get a hot breakfast 3 days and cereal the other 2 days. After the kids are done eating breakfast, they get to go to there rooms to PLAY with TOYS! Every class does a circle or "learning" time by mid-morning, followed by crafts, learning activities, and more play! Then the kids get a healthy morning snack. Each classroom also spends time outside in the morning and again after nap. The playgrounds have lots of play equipment, balls, and small cars, trikes, and scooters for the children to play with! The children are served delicious homemade lunches each day, followed by naptime. Afterwards they get an afternoon snack and go back outside to play until picked up. On the colder d more

Best daycare ever!!! 3/14/2012

We love this place!!! Mr Bill, Ms Judy, and the staff are first class. My wife and I moved here from out of town and we feel at home here with W.S.P.T. We are so glad to have such a wonderful place to take our child. There is a good balance of learning and playtime which is so important to a childs development! I have picked my granddaugher up at this daycare a number of times for my daughter and this place is great. My granddaughter has blossomed so much since she started going there and the staff and owners are always so pleasant. They keep you well informed as to how your child's day has been and they really enjoy what they are doing. If all the toys were put away, I would be worried that my granddaughter was having a boring day as a child. The activities that this business plans for all the children are above and beyond what you would find a most babysitters's houses. I commend the owners, staff and this wonderful business for giving my granddaughter as much attention and caring as I would everyday. This is a terrific business and I would recommend it to everyone, and I DO!! more

LOVE IT!!! 3/13/2012

There were quite a few day cares I reviewed prior to choosing Whales. It says it all when there are many good reviews. Bad news is the fastest thing to spread and it hasn't. No news is great news. Great reviews are even better. They are great with the kids, fair to everyone and very open to working with the parents. Their schedule is very conducive to kids normal body clocks (meal time, nap time, free play versus scheduled circle time, etc). The best thing is the money. I never felt as if my money was not going to the children. Their hearts are in the right place and their priorities are great. They also prepare the kids for school and knowing a school board member was more proof they are awesome at preparation. She HIGHLY recommended them. It will be a very sad day when she cannot go to Whales, Snails and Puppy Dog Tails anymore. more

Worst daycare in town- Only daycare in town 2/17/2012

This daycare center is absolutely horrible. They are not organized AT ALL. They are OVER-CROWDED, and in a very tight space. They do not have an organized schedule that they follow beyond the basics i.e. : Breakfast, snack, lunch, nap, and everything in between in play. They have very little control over the children. There is no organization to parent pick up and drop off! The kids are playing all over the floor, toys everywhere, and you have to step over everything just to get to your child. The owner's wife, is not friendly or personable at all. I do not know how they pass inspections??? I have pulled my children out. I know they are the only daycare in town, and that is why they have business. If someone else put up another center, they would go under. Does it makes sense to give children cookies, and candy right before they go home at pick up time (5:00pm) when they are going home to eat dinner? Also, the parking lot is a disaster. And hope you dont ever have to get more

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! 1/18/2012

This is a FANTASTIC center! I have two children that started attending WSPT in July 2011. I have been blown away buy how kind, caring, understanding, professional, and willing the entire staff is to create such an unparalleled environment for the kids. Great organization, education, and communication skills are rare to find in a center independently, but WSPT has a ""five star"" in all three in my book. My kids look forward to coming everyday.......and I love sampling all of Bill's home-made treats! :) Would highly recommend to anyone! -MS more

I love this daycare... They do lots of crafts and play games and take the children outside!!! They are a very structured daycare. I have to boys that go there and they love it. The stuff is truely amazing!!!! more

I love WSPT! My 2 sons have gone there for several years. The owners, Bill and Judy, are very hands on and involved. They take the time to learn each child's name and even details about the child. They are happy to talk to you about progress or issues with your child and provide helpful solutions. I am very satisfied with all of the teachers at WSPT and each teacher truly cares about their kids. They also have helpers at the center, and they are great as well. I like the personal care and trust that we have built up with the people and center.My children have learned so much at this preschool that I was confident when my son entered school. I would highly reccomend this place to anyone looking for childcare and/or preschool. more

  • We are a licensed, educationally based Child Care Center serving the needs of children between the ages of 6 weeks and 12 years old. We are open from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Five of our teachers have 4 year Elementary Education and Early Childhood Degrees and The Director has a Masters Degree. We provide home cooked meals for breakfast and lunch, plus two snacks each day for no additional cost. We provide transportation to and from school and on all field trips in a new Thomas Built school bus. Our Summer Program children go on five field trips per week to places like the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Harrisburg Riverboat, Indian Echo Caverns, Lake Tobias, etc. The Summer Program children also go swimming each week and Dairy Delights Ice Cream after swimming, bowling every other week and Chuck E. Cheese three times over the Summer. All field trips, food and drink are included in the Summer Program price of $175 per week for full time. Our pricing for all age children is in line with our competition, however our price includes meals. We have very strict standards of cleanliness at Whales, Snails and Puppy Dog Tails. You will not smell urine or feces, nor the orange cover up scent typically used by unclean centers to mask odors. We are members of and are trained through the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Our staff are also trained in fire prevention and CPR/First Aid.
