I've taken my cat to see Dr. Walia for the last 5 years. Our yearly visits are quick and painless, and they keep my kitty happy and healthy. That means more to me than anything. Thank you Dr. Walia and staff. more

First time i went, i left without my cat. He did have to be put down, but i didnt fully understand what the vet said because he has an accent. I was in pieces crying in the room, & they rushed me out with 5 mins to grieve and were kinda unsupportive. My new cat, Starr had wierd growths on her pawpad tips and i took her in. The vet said they are horn growths & didnt even know the name of her condition. He said i had to get her declawed and if i didnt, shed be in pain her whole life and they tried to schedule it right away. Never said it was minor amputation surgery and complications could be bad, or that theyd take off the last section on the "finger" part of the paws. I consulted 2 vets. They explained that he was pulling my leg. Starr didnt need to be declawed, wasnt in pain, & i could cut off the sub-cutaneous horn growths w nail clippers and they even showed me it wouldnt hurt. So... westgate vet insisted she was in pain and gave her a shot which wasnt needed.. he handled my cat poorly, and she hated him. During the injection, she tried to bite his hand (i wouldve too) and the syringe FLUNG ACROSS THE ROOM AND LANDED ON THE FLOOR.. HE PICKED IT UP OFF THE GROUND AND STUCK THE NEEDLE BACK INTO MY CAT. Didnt get a new one, or clean it... and told me id have to give her human vitamin e caplets for her skin for the rest of her life and keep coming in for shots for her 'pain'. Wow. Her condition is still present and doesnt hurt. I cut them off myself. Her skin is fine without giving her vitamins, & i never returned for more UNSANITARY shots. I hate this vet. Good: The staff are always friendly, cheerful, and helpful. They don't pretend to know more than you do. They acknowledged my concerns.. Other: Dr. Walia has always treated us great, answered questions and explained what's going on. His accent is a little thick but he has been patient with us so we are patient with him.. more

We were able to get our cat in immediately when we realized he was sick. We weren't happy with our previous vet and called several vets who couldn't see him for a couple of days. We got right in, the staff was great, and our cat is feeling better after receiving the right meds. I wouldn't say it was cheap, but it wasn't the most I have paid in Tacoma. Dr. Walia was very professional. He isn't the most sensitive about the human's feelings, but I really feel he has the best interest of the animal in mind. And, they have the best extended hours for people that work! more

I recently brought my sick puppy to Dr. Walia after a neighbor suggested I try his vet. He hadn't eaten in days and was unable to keep down water either. I knew when I got a pet that it meant being responsible for vet bills if needed. So when I received the bill I wasn't surprised about the cost but instead grateful that they could fix my puppy and get her back to good health. I picked her up several days later & she was back to her normal self. I would recommend him to all my family and friends! I'm a very happy pet parent after this experience. more

Good: Smart man who knows his stuff.. Bad: NA. Other: I had a puppy that I took to the emergency clinic because he became very sick very quickly. The Dr.'s didn't really know what was wrong. The medicine they gave me was not making him better. On Monday I took my puppy to Dr Walia and after looking at him for about 2 minutes he had a diagnosis and treatment. My puppy began responding to the new treatment right away. Excellent Vet. I highly recommend him.. more

Our male cat recently had a life-threatening urinary blockage that required immediate attention outside of regular office hours. After being misdiagnosed at the Animal Emergency Clinic on Durango the night before, Dr. Walia met us at the clinic at 10:00 p.m. and treated our cat. Unfortunately, after spending a week at the clinic, our cat once again experienced a blockage at 1:00 a.m. just a few days after being released. The 2nd blockage was in no way related to Dr. Walia's treatment of him, but rather the nature of the condition he suffered from. I once again called Dr. Walia after hours and was relieved when he promptly returned my call and graciously agreed to meet us at the clinic in the middle of the night. The following morning Dr. Walia performed a very complicated surgery on our cat that likely saved his life. Our cat has since fully recovered and the issue with regards to urinary blockages has been resolved. I am also happy to report that our cat has not suffered any of the possible side effects of such a surgery. I attribute this to Dr. Walia's skills as a surgeon. My friend’s father is a retired vet and remarked that Dr. Walia had done exceptional work upon examining my cat post-surgery. While albeit the surgery itself was costly, compared to what other vets would have charged, Dr. Walia's charges were more than reasonable. In addition, during the recovery period, I frequently had to take our cat to the clinic to have the surgery site checked and Dr. Walia never once charged me for the follow up care. He also graciously agreed to meet me after hours on more than one occasion when I had concerns about my cat's recovery. While I cannot speak to anyone else's experiences, I found Dr. Walia to be a highly competent and caring vet and will continue to utilize his services. I highly recommend Dr. Walia! more

This place is awesome. There's this hot girl named Jackie that works there, and she's AWESOME. Like really. Oh and the vet is nice and helped my kitty. Jackie can help my kitty any time though. Thanks! more

I've been taking my cats there for years for their routine vaccinations and exams as they need them. I've had only the best of service at my visits. The veterinarian on duty is knowlegable, quick, and overall makes it a painless experience for my cats so they can get back to the comfort of their own home quickly. I think the hardest part for them is getting in and out of the carrier. But, who's kitty actually wants to go in there lol?! As for personality, this guy has a big one! He's very honest and to the point of what my animals need and that's a huge reason why I love and trust this clinic. more

Dr. Walia and his staff is what makes this place such a success! he has been a vet for about 40 years! meaning hes got more experience then most vets out there by far! I've been taking my pom, Siberian husky, and great Dane there for years and I have never been upset by the work they do. Dr. Walia is straight to the point because that's what a doctor is supposed to be that way it saves the clients and their beloved pets the hassles and time. However he and the staff are extremely compassionate and caring, oh and they know their stuff so answers are always very clear. the hospital is also very clean and if you ask anyone about them in that area you'll get the same answer! oh and their cat is probably the coolest his names bert and he is defiantly the most beautiful cat I've ever seen, he's a maine-coon and can you believe that he can look a great dane and siberian husky in the face with no hesitation :D more

I have taken all three of my purebred pomeranians to Westgate. Dr. Whalia is a great vet, he is a little abrasive personality wise but he is just direct. Their office is affordable and their staff is very kind always accommodating. Dr. Whalia has had pomeranians so he is great with small dogs. My one pomeranian has a heart condition and he has kept her alive many years past expectancy. more

after reading other comments i know westgate is a good vet and a little rough on animals too..i brought my cat in there after a fight and he was kinda rough..but not abusive..just straight to the point..and my cats ear turned out looking great..if you want TLC go to river road more

Dr. Walia and his clinic provides the finest in vet care I have ever had. He has been my vet for well over a quarter century. I have Pekingese dogs and he has treated all of them. He is patient, caring and the best vet I have ever known. His prices are lower than most and his office staff is caring and wonderful. In all, he has treated eight of my dogs over the years and I would not trust them to anyone else. more

The Dr. of this establishment is probably the best vet with animals I have ever seen. He is just a to the point kind of guy. Just because he does not be overly nice and stupidly tender with animals means nothing. I have taken a feral cat right out of the wild to him and he was the only person who could touch the animal. I also have a psycho cat that other more hippie types of vets have problems with, I took my cat to him and guess what, he could handle him. He has a gift with animals. Some people should stop treating there animals as if they have human feelings, and come back to reality. more

No nonsense Vet, I have taken one very large dog and two cats to the clinic. I got the service I deserved and the animals were treated very well. I would recommend the clinic to anyone I know. The dog was treated for an emergency visit a very bad cut to the foot, the doc handled his (175 lb Rottie) very well. more

I went there to get my 1 yr old pom her shots...but the vet on duty was rough with her...and didn't take into consideration how scared she was. He didn't greet or introduce himself to us, even though we were new. Basically we motioned for us to go into a smaller room, and he gave her the two shots, then left. He was not very gentle when he handled her and made her even more scared. Although the examination fee was 1/2 of what is of some other vets, I will not be returning to this vet. He did not seen to welcome any questions that we may have about her and wasn't very friendly to us either. more

I have had only good experiences with this hospital. All the staff have been very caring and treated my pets with TLC. I have had two dogs and three cats who they have treated for both shots and injuries. I have had to put to sleep a dog and a cat there and the staff has always been very considerate of me and my pets. more

I took my kitten there once, when she had hurt her paw, and I was very displeased with the way she was treated. The vet on duty was rough with her, needlessly scaring her with the way he grabbed and forced her down on the examining table and later on the x-ray table. He seemed not to have any feeling for small kitties, or consideration for her fear of him and of her strange surroundings. His attitude appeared to be, let's get this over with and stop complaining." I protested, and he was short with me as well. It may just have been one particular doctor who was on duty that day, and may not apply to all of them, so I would investigate first before taking any of my animals there again. more
