The SceneSoutheast of the Twin Cities between Hastings and Red Wing, this family-oriented ski area is carved out of the Cannon River Valley. The SlopesWelch features more than 50 trails running through a hardwood forest, with all of the trails devoted to skiers and snowboarders at beginner and intermediate levels. Less-experienced skiers won't find runs--several are designed to present a challenge: Dan's Dive is a long, narrow shot through the woods; and Sweeny Run is prime, fall-line skiing. Also, Bakkelyka and Chicken are two runs that will get your blood pumping. Snowboarders will find two terrain parks. The area is serviced by one triple chairlift, three quad chairlifts and four double chairlifts.
