After nearly 40 years as an internist specializing in sports medicine Dr. Stephen Weil announced his retirement February 2008. Dr. Weil, originally from Brooklyn, New York, came to Oregon while in the Army. He fell in love with the people and the wide open spaces. An avid runner (and finisher of almost 40 marathons!) Dr. Weil was relatable to both the weekend warrior and the elite athlete. He was proud of his New York Jewish heritage; you either loved him or didn't get his sense of humor. As a sole practitioner he gladly gave his patients his personal home number so they knew they could always reach him in an emergency. Dr. Weil loved helping people and continuing doing house calls, unheard of in this day and age, up until the end of his medical career. In January 2008 Dr Weil was diagnosed with Lymphoma and sadly had to give up practicing medicine. He is now a two year cancer surviver; celebrating life everyday in Lake Oswego, Oregon.
