Waterfront Seafood Market

My friends and I come to Waterfront occasionally. They have good seafood and a pretty good variety to choose from. I normally stick to their sushi but sometimes I will get an entr?e. My favorite rolls to choose from are the Alaskan, the Tiger Roll, the Dynamite Spicy Tuna, the Captain Crunch, the Volcano and the Miami Heat Rolls. If I do decide to go with an entr?e, I normally choose between their Crab Cakes and their Potato Encrusted Halibut, both which are really good. The seafood here is great but the only reason I am giving them three stars is because the majority of the times that I've been here, our service hasn't been very good at all. The server always seems to be really busy, which is fine but then they make numerous mistakes, they don't really pay attention to you or your needs and they can be somewhat grouchy. Overall, the food is great and it's worth a try. more

My third time ever to try sushi and I loved it. I love their shrimp basket, always will. But the Chuck Norris was beautiful. The chef was so friendly and it was good. Although our server was super friendly, he had 5 other tables to serve. I noticed quite a few teens just standing by the service desk chatting while this man was running around serving food. I know we waited longer then we should of had because he had a lot on his hands, but someone needs to put those kids to work! They're getting paid just so they could talk? I'd like to not think that. Firstly, I will say that the seafood tasted fresh, hard not to when the place was packed and according to a customer next to us, always is. But why? We started with the Seafood & Andouille Gumbo. NOT! It was smoked sausage, chicken and 1 lone baby shrimp. I was mediocre in flavor. We also had the Clam Chowder, it was cream of potato soup with a couple pieces of canned minced clams. My date had the special of the night, grilled Catfish. The fish was grilled fine except for the black burned areas, but had no spice at all, NONE. It came with a disgusting mixture of mayonaise and pickles trying to pass as tartar sauce. I had the Wall Eye Pike, it was grilled well, no burns on this one, but again nothing, no spice, no sauce, no flavor. But it came with a bonus, lots of bonus'. I never write reviews either, but I went to Waterfront for the first time on a busy Friday night, and the service was horrible. My boyfriend and I sat at the bar and the waitress hurried us through our order and would barely look at us. The people at the other end (selling fish? greeting?) had attitudes and chatted the whole time. At the end, our bill was messed up and the waitress acted mad that we even pointed it out. My husband took me to dinner on New Years Eve for the 4 course special they ran that night and the appetizer was adequate the soup the taste was good but there was bits of cartilage through it I found 7 or 8 bits it was like they had not been cleaned the crab right .... the Lobster and Steak were cooked wonderfully but the side dishes were not worth being eaten. the Risotto was clumpy and dry, hubby said that the Garlic mashed potatoes were not any better. The Asparagus wrapped in Prosciutto was steamed but not finished off on the grill so seemed 1/2 done and then there was the Creme Brulee that they had on the menu for Desert .... we ordered it and was told that they other restaurant was open later so it all had been sent over there. We were told if we wanted it we could drive to Ankeny to the other store. Your would think they would keep some for the people that were not finished with there supper. more

We went to the new Waterfront in Ankeny, and it was awesome! The Chuck Norris Sushi and the Spicy Scallop Nigiri were the best on the menu! The service was outstanding and the sushi was fresh. I am a frequent customer at Waterfront and my last 2 experiences i feel have been below average. I was in a part of 6 on 8/10. We ate in the bar and the service was spotty at best. There was no flow to the service at all. For a $300 sushi meal we just seemed to be more of a bother than anything else. more

My Des Moines family took this Southern California visitor to what they promised was the best sushi in town. They were not kidding! We tried the Sunshine Roll - now my FAVORITE! The Spicy Tuna Roll was fabulous as well. My brother's order of Clam Chowder was beyond fantastic - we could have eaten the whole vat, I'm sure. I would recommend this place to anyone, whether local or from out-of-town... it's worth the trip. Pros: Fresh sushi, amazing clam chowder, ample parking Cons: The restaurant was actually FREEZING - it could have been warmed up a tad. more

i've had hundreds of lunches at waterfront, wonderful fresh seafood, great preparation, nice friendly staff more
