Good atmosphere, but no longer the best ice cream in town 9/11/2006

Washtenaw Dairy is one of those gems that you find in almost every town -- if you look hard enough. Somewhat hidden in the middle of a large residential neighborhood, it is not uncommon on a summer afternoon or evening to find the line stretching well around the corner. Washtenaw Dairy is as much a community gathering place as an ice cream shop; they offer a good variety of flavors at fair prices, but unfortunately the ice cream is no longer as good as it once was. There was a time when Washtenaw Dairy actually made their own ice cream, but today it is Stroh's (made in Detroit by the same company which makes Stroh's beer!), which can be bought in many area grocery stores. more

The Dairy 1/25/2006

It's an Ann Arbor establishment. they have GREAT ice cream and doughnuts....and it's not like going to a 'chain' ice cream parlour. Atmosphere is unique and comfortable, staff is friendly. Also, prices are MUCH more affordable than most places!! They also offer 'Washtenaw Dairy' hats and t-shirts for sale, which is kinda cool. Parking isn't bad across the street- but lines can be long on the summer months! It's a great piece of Ann Arbor history!! more

Summer wonderland 11/13/2005

My husband and I love Washtenaw Dairy. You can always get very delicious ice cream or floats there. Their single scoop gives you double as other store's single scoop. Also, you can get free refill for your root bear float. The price is very affrordable. You can see many kids around during the summer time. The only thing is that I don't feel the store is clean enough. Sometimes I see some little insects around the ice cream. more

Washtenaw Dairy 9/29/2005

This is a old building that has been in Ann Arbor forever. They make the BEST donuts - mostly cake donuts with frosting, and in the morning they are hot and fresh - yummy!. They also carry a large selection of ice cream, and a small dairy section with milk, etc.. Great place to walk to and sit down and relax with a friend. Lots of space inside to sit, or outside they have seating as well. more

Old fashioned doughnuts and ice cream 8/19/2005

Washtenaw Dairy, located at 602 South Ashley, is truly an Ann Arbor institution. Serving up doughnuts and ice cream, the shop is just not going to change to suit your cholesterol test. However, if you are looking for truly rich and tasty food, this is the place to go. The ice cream cones are $2.25, and they are enormous. Neighborhood families walk over in the evening and sit on the benches outside, enjoying the sunset. The store also sells milk, soda, beer, ice, dry ice, etc. more
