Horrible experience after eating here for years! 5/15/2012

It pains me greatly to be writing this review, as I've been eating lunch here with my husband at least twice a month for several years now. We love their food and the waitresses have always been attentive and considerate. I work directly across the street from here, so I always picked Wasabi when it was my turn to pick on our weekly lunch date. I have an hour for lunch and this has always been plenty of time for us to drive over, order, be served, eat at our own pace, and get me back to work on time.\r \r That being said, both my husband & I have decided we will never walk through their doors again. Last Thursday, we went in for lunch at noon...the same time we usually go. There were 2 other tables...they were not busy customer-wise. The waitress took our order (a new, very young girl I had never seen before) and we got our drinks/salad/miso in about the same time as we usually do, which is around 5-7 minutes. We ordered the exact same entrees we usually order. \r \r We didn't see a waitress again for 45 minutes with the exception of her removing our soup/salad dishes right after we had finished with them. When we did see another, it was a different girl than we had before and she said our food would be out shortly. No apology; no explanation. I asked her to please make it to-go because I had to get back to work and wouldn't have time to eat. She came back shortly and gave us our bill, while telling me that it was the cooks' fault and not the waitresses that our food was taking so long. We went up front to pay while still waiting on our food to be ready in a to-go box. My husband handed the cashier the bill, who happened to be our first waitress. He asked her if we had to pay full price and she looked at him like he had two heads. He asked again, do we have to pay full price? I chimed in and explained that I only had an hour for lunch and had to get back across the street to go back to work, but our food still wasn't ready. She just stared at me, uncomprehendingly. Perhaps this was a language conflict; I don't know because I've never seen her there before. At any rate, she yelled something to someone in the kitchen and they yelled back. She rang up his ticket, ran his card, and gave him the receipt. She had taken $2.00 off the bill...which basically covered the cost of one drink. \r \r By this point, it was exactly 1:00pm, we had been there an entire hour, and had paid for food we had yet to see. Beyond all of that, at no point did ANYONE apologize to us, explain anything, or take responsibility for what had happened. When the second waitress blamed it on the cooks, it sounded more like she was begging for a tip than anything else. This was the first time in my life I approved of not leaving a tip. We waited about 5 more minutes on our food and they finally handed it to us. I was 10 minutes late for work and didn't get to eat lunch. My husband went home and ate his, stuck mine in the refrigerator, and I had my last Wasabi meal that evening for dinner...re-heated in our microwave. There was absolutely no excuse for what happened that day, and I'm relatively laid-back about restaurant service because I've been involved with several people who have worked in the restaurant industry and I know how hard it can be. I'm now on the hunt for a new Thai joint in the Concord area! \r more

NOT GOOD AT ALL...!!! 4/9/2012

Advertised for PHO of which I am a huge fan. I ordered a supposed to be a Vietnamese Pho soup with beef, a typical noodle soup. That was the only choice I had. It was served in a nice looking good size bowl. What comes in the soup was only a few pieces of tiny ""beef"" a a couple of sices beef ball. The noodles was all stuck together in a pasty ball. The soup costs $8.99. The worst and most expensive pho soup I have ever had. WILL NEVER GO BACK! more

Best Sushi around!!!!!!!!!! 12/14/2009

We found Wasabi Cafe after our other usual sushi place suddenly closed. Everything we've had is fantastic. My son(almost 7) absolutely loves sushi after eating here, while he didn't like what he had at the old place. We eat here at least once a week. As far as the other reviewers who say the service is bad, I have to strongly disagree. We always have our tea and Miso soup shortly after sitting down without having to order them. Great portion sizes!!! Staff is very friendly and question us if my son is not with us for some reason as to his whereabouts. These people do a great job of making sure we are happy and satisfied. The buy 2 get 1 free on Monday and Wednesday is an awesome deal too!!!!! Thanks to the staff and owners!!!!!! Keep up the good work!! Pros: Wonderful Food, Great Specials, Fantastic Service Cons: None!!!!! more

Will not be back. 10/26/2009

We tried this place for dinner on a Monday night. Apparently, they are known for sushi, because that seemed to be what everyone was ordering.\r \r After a long delay, we ordered diet soda and chicken satay. It took a very long time (15 minutes) to receive the drinks and appetizer.\r \r We ordered Rung Tong (scallops ,shrimp, squid, fish, bell peppers, onions, broccoli, carrots and straw mushrooms cooked in a brown gravy and served on a nest of fried egg noodle), and Spider Kaprao (Deep-fried soft-shell crab topped with green and red bell peppers and onions in a spicy basil sauce. Served with steamed rice). I asked for the Rung Tong to be extra spicy.\r \r We waited while many other customers arrived, were served sushi, and left. Nearly an hour later, with our appetizer gone, and our drinks empty, we were ready to leave. We quietly asked for the bill for the appetizer and soda, so that we could pay and leave. The server, however, informed us that the food was ready.\r \r When I asked her if it always takes an hour to be served, she said yes, ""when the place is this full."" The problem with her explanation was the fact that many other customers, who had arrived after us, were served well before we were.\r \r Quality:\r \r The sodas were in cans (no refills), and the chicken satay was dried out and tough. The peanut sauce was good. The miso soup that came with our meal was also good.\r \r When the meal arrived, we were very disappointed. The Rung Tong was not as advertised. It consisted of 5 small shrimp, NO fish, NO scallops, some pieces of octopus, and a few pieces of squid. In addition to not being what was described in the menu, the food arrived both overcooked and cold. Although I had asked for it to be Thai hot, it had no spice whatsoever.\r \r The Spider Kaprao was lukewarm, overcooked, and basically soggy. The fried rice that came with it was tasteless and also soggy.\r \r While we attempted to eat our meal, the servers never offered a drink refill or even water. In fact, after dropping off our cold food, they never came by again until we were ready to leave. We tried catching their attention, but they seemed to not notice us until just before we were ready to leave, when we were able to get glasses of water.\r \r When we were preparing to pay our bill, the manager asked me if everything was all right. I politely answered, ""no, not really."" \r \r Instead of asking me what happened, he did something shocking: He laughed at me, mockingly repeated my words, and walked away!\r \r He offered no apology, no discount, no request for us to come back and try it again - he simply laughed in my face.\r \r We will not be back.\r Cons: Poor service, slow service, cold food more

poor attitudes 2/5/2009

We were frequently visiting this restaurant and loved their rolls. We purchased (4) $25.00 gift certificates for Wasabi Cafe. When I went to use them, they said they would no longer honor the gift certificates. They said they cancelled their membership that week which was 2-3-09 with the people we purchased the certificates from but I found out that was not true. I purchased the certicates on 1-29-09 and told them they should honor anything purchased prior to the date they cancelled. They told me they would NOT. The guy I spoke with I assume with Jackie and he was very rude and didn't seem to care that I said we would not be back. We've spent near $200.00 in there in the last 6 weeks. I'm not happy!!! Pros: Great rolls Cons: Poor attitudes toward customers more

We're getting close to authentic! 4/10/2008

Okay complainers, when you only have one semi-genuine sushi restaurant in town, you are so thankful to have it! Their Summer Rolls are great and the people are friendly. I can't say enough - except if I want to drive 25 miles and pay 3 bucks a gallon, I could go to RuSan. Pros: great service, tasty food Cons: atmosphere a little cramped. more

Great Sushi at a reasonable price! 3/10/2008

Contrary to what the first reviewer stated, I have found the Washabi Cafe to be excellent! I've been eating lunch or dinner there once or twice a week for the past two years and have found the service to be excellent and the food to be superb! The food quality, in my opinion, compares to any of the sushi restaurants I have tried in Charlotte, but for a fraction of the cost! They have a modest facility so they don't have to jack up the prices of their food to pay for fancy decor. They have a varied menu of Thai, Japanese and Chinese food and will even modify your order if you have a specific request. \r I have always found the wait staff to be friendly and they do their best to make your dining experience a good one. Yes, there English is not always the best, but they do still do a good job and are understandable. As for long delays, I haven't found that to be a problem. If numerous customers come in at the same time, there will be a delay as in any restaurant. Since this is a family business, they can't afford to hire excess wait staff. The more wait staff, the higher the prices. I don't mind a modest waiting period to get high quality food...and most importantly...at a great price! Pros: Great quality food at a low price. Cons: Modest delays if a large number of people arrive at the same time, but not a problem. more

not too bad for the only option 2/12/2007

Being the only sushi place in concord brings them up from a flat ""0"". i have out of necessity been eating here for nearly a year and everytime i do i swera that i will never eat there again. THE SERVICE IS HORRIBLE!!!! This cannot be attributed to language barriers as most of the staff speak english, its just plain terrible service. The food is always extremely late and your drink will always be empty. I have tried calling in the food a few times and was told that the food would be ready in 15 minutes. Knowing this to not be true ive waitind more than 30 to head out. Upon arriving at the restaurant where there were only 1 or 2 couples seated, the staff acted as though they never got the order and then had to search for the person that took the order and 30 minutes later i was still waiting on my food. But if you can deal with all this the sushi is quite tasty. Anyone hoping to open a sushi restaurant should head to concord, the people are waiting for you. Pros: wide variety of fresh and tasty sushi Cons: TERRIBLE SERVICE,poor atmosphere more
