The best restaurant in Belmont 8/27/2007

I've been here twice now, and this restaurant is a great place for lunch or dinner. The food is very tasty, and the people are nice; felt very taken care of here, lots of smiles and attentive service. Would reccomend it to anyone more

My favorite restaurant 9/11/2006

I love this restaurant. It is our favorite. Excellent Italian food on a frequently changing menu. An excellent wine list. Wonderful, upscale atmosphere. We've nearly always found the service to be excellent, although about 10% of the time, when it is really busy, the service is sometimes a little spotty. And the owner is very nice. He recognizes us as regular patrons and always goes out of his way to make us feel special.\r \r \r \r \r more

Great Food but WORST service ever 1/9/2006

While I must admit that Vivace has great, authentic food, I must give it an average rating due to the horrible service I have received over and over again (the worst I have ever received). Making a reservation at this restaurant is pointless, due to the fact that the manager purposely overbooks every night. Therefore, even when making a reservation, you must wait on an average of 45 minutes to an hour to get seated. Once seated, it is so overcrowded that the waiter barely has time to take your order and cant hear you over the noise. So fed up, I wrote a letter of complaint to the manager, which was completely ignored. The food isn't good enough to outweigh the terrible service, which I believe is due to an unethical and greedy manager who only cares about customer traffic. I will never go back again. more

Excellent food, but the service is a crap shoot 9/19/2005

I have to admit that Vivace is my favorite place to dine in the Pennisula. The ambience and atmosphere are perfect for a nice dinner with close friends or a romantic rendevous. The food is impeccable, and top notch. However, I recommend making reservations and arriving early or on-time. The place is always packed...and there is no argument the food and ambience are the biggest reasons why. The service is spotty though, there are some nights I've gone where the service is incredible, and other nights it will take forever to flag down a waiter. Hopefully they resolve this issue soon, because I'm sure they could seat their reservations more promptly if the customers who are eating are serviced properly. HORRIBLE Seating & Service! 6/30/2005

My wife and I made a reservation, arrived early, checked in and waited at the bar. Fifteen minutes after our reservation time, I asked how much longer it would be before we would get seated and were told ""a few more minutes."" After a few more of these back-and-forths, during which we ALWAYS had to ask (even though we were literally 5 feet from the reception desk), I asked to speak with the manager...who seated us shortly thereafter. By the time we were seated, it was nearly 1.5 hours after our reservation time! Why bother giving out a reservation time?!? Never again. more

Good food, bad service 6/17/2005

The food was good, the pasta cooked perfectly. We were seated promptly because we had made an early OpenTable reservation, but from there the service rapdily declined. Took several minutes to get bread and water, then several more -- probably 15 minutes before a waiter acknowledged us. We had to ask twice for a wine menu, and extra plates were never removed from the table. Once we were handed our plates, we never saw the waiter again til she wanted us to pay her. more

A reservation meant nothing... 4/13/2005

We had a reservation for 7pm on a Wednesday night for a party of 12 and when we walked in, the place was pretty busy already. A cocktail party was going on in the private dining room from 4-7pm. Unfortunately, the people from the cocktail didn't start to trickle out till 8pm. By the time we were seated with people still hanging out from the cocktail party it was 8:15pm. 1 hour 15 mins past our reservation. Food was decent but yes, a little pricey for what you get. The waiter did not tell us of any specials or any recommendations was merely there to take your drink and food orders. Pros: variety of entrees, wine selection Cons: difficult parking, crowded, wait even w/reserv. more

Ho hum... 4/11/2005

Everything was ok; nothing was spectacular. The ahi tuna appetizer was nice, as was the creme brulee. The pan seared halibut with white beans and basil ragout was bland and uninspired. All in all... nice, but nothing to jump up and write home about. more

happening Italian in Belmont 4/20/2004

Even on a Tuesday night, Vivace was packed. Definitely make reservations before going. Our dinner started out slow, as it took 15 minutes past our reservation time to seat us and another 30 minutes before they took our orders. Our waiter was friendly yet overwhelmed and only recovered when customers started to leave. At the end of the night, he made up for the long waits by a free dessert. The food itself is fine but not special. Vivace is famous for its osso bucco, but I found the pastas (mostly $14.95-19.95) to be bland and mushrooms to be more slimy than usual. Desserts are great, though. Especially the creme brulee. For the quality of the food, I think the place is a little overpriced. more

Great Italian Bistro Food 12/6/2002

This is a great place to go if you are in the mood for Italian Bistro food. The appetizers and salads are great. The Osso Bucco is amazing, and the linguini with clams is fresh. Strongly recommend making reservations and calling ahead to see how long it may take... more

The gnocchi was still amazing. We also had a spinach salad with warm fried goat cheese which was excellent. Our server was highly skilled and very nice. more
