Uneatible 12/31/2011

Nine of us went to the ""dinner show"" last night (12/30/11). We were celebrating with family visiting from Norway. The food was absolutely terrible. No one could finish their meal. The spagetti and meatballs was tasteless, and the shrimp risoto was very fishy. My mother-in-law (a teriffic cook herself) took two bites of her egg parmigian and stated to my wife and I that it was ""uneatible"". Something has changed in the last 6 months and in my opinion it is definately the food preparation. I have had better spagetti in the cafeteria at school. Service was marginal at best, and this seemed to be related to a total lack of staff. For $300 one would think that there would be atleast one positive comment from our group, but that was not the case. My wife and I will never go back. more

73% price increase! Goodbye Vitello's! 11/14/2011

Apparently from what I've read, Vitello's is under new management. That explains why I paid $19 for a simple chicken parm, that used to be $10.95. I have an old menu at home, and compared the prices, and everything has increased, AN UNBELIEVABLE AMOUNT! The price of our entrees increased 73%, not a buck or two, but 73%. Seriously? Are these people crazy? And my wife and I were not happy with the quality of our meals from this new management. It's always been a great place to get a reasonabley priced, quality Italian meal. NOT ANYMORE! more

Vitello's sleeps with fishes - AVOID 9/5/2011

This used to be a great Italian restaurant until they decided to try and get fancy with the menu. Now the place is empty every night and sad. Don't tell me you are trying to be ""more healthy"" I'm Italian! People are supposed to want to EAT here! If I wanted carrots and bland broiled fish I could mess that up in my own kitchen. They don't even give you bread anymore unless you ask for it. What the hell?\r \r RIP Vitello's more

How sad for longtime Vitello's fans! 9/1/2011

Indeed a sad day for loyal Vitello's fans. This once iconic Italian restaurant now has new management, new chef, new menu and new staff. It doesn't remotely resemble the old Vitello's. The amazing food that made this place famous is no longer being served. Now your tiny portion of eggplant parmesan is accompanied by mashed potatoes along with carrots and broccoli that look like they came out of a frozen bag at Trader Joe's. WTF? The service is equally bad. Heartbreaking for loyal Vitello's fans like me. Avoid this new place at all costs!! more

A SAD DAY IN STUDIO CITY...VITELLO'S HAS BIT THE BULLET 8/28/2011

HOW SAD! VITELLO'S IS UNDER A NEW MENU AND MANAGEMENT AND THE QUALITY OF FOOD WENT DOWN THE HILL. Vitello's is a well known historical Italian restaurant that has somehow downgraded the quality of their food. Do not downgrade a historical restaurant that has a large large regular client base. It will kill your business. DELIVERY WAS AWFUL AS WELL. They used to show up within 30-45 min. This guy took well over an hour and my food was cold. Oh and they fill up your whole dinner with cheap veggies now and have completely cut your portions in half. Clearly they think the customers are stupid and will not notice the increased price and lousy food. I guess they are trying to be healthier but do not compromise a traditional Italian Red menu to be healthier. Just add healthy items. People do not go for Italian food to be healthy! It's normally a treat. The only place left is maybe Damiano's on Fairfax but nothing left in the valley. Il Pastaio is great and much fancier but for some reason their prices end up being almost less than Vitello's and it's in Beverly Hills. This was the only in between traditional southern red sauce place that was acceptable in LA and they just blew it. Once Italians eat here they will never come back! Trust me. Ugh. So sad. I agree with the guy below. It's a super sad day for me to say goodbye to this place. I never thought I would see the day where I would throw my Italian food in the garbage. more

Went hwere for Hollywood crime stuff my friend and I love. 3/25/2011

We went in the summer and the place was very dark and we joked about it. We could barely see our waiter standing next to us and actually heard a disembodied voice and noticed a shadow. It was pretty funny. We meant to have only a pizza, but decided to be adventurous, and we ended up having not only that, but lasagna, braciole (sp?) and dessert and salad. We ate it all. Needless to say, it's fabulous. Esp the braciole, it was superb. Everything was great too. more

Oldie but a goodie 3/26/2009

This place has been around forever -- just ask Robert Blake. Still, if you're in the neighborhood, and you want some regular-ol'-Italian served without attitude, and you like seeing C-list TV stars while you eat, this is the place. Pros: Solid, if unexciting, Italian food Cons: Solid, if unexciting, Italian food more

Best Pizza Place In The Sanfernando Valley 4/21/2008

I am a 11 year old kid who loves Vitellos! The Manager is very very nice, the servers treat you like you are in your own house. Best of all the food comes out in a resanable time and the food is amazing. It is my favorite food. I love going there after school to get there thin crust pizza. Anyway you have to at least go there once but you will always want to go back. You have to try Vitellos Italian Restaurant. Pros: Grat Staff more

Very good italian food with great ambiance 3/24/2008

Whenever my wife and I are in the mood for italian food, Vitello's is our first choice. I love the Linguini Afocata, Lasagna, and chicken Picatta. We have never had a bad experience there and the staff is extremley friendly. They check on you often and act as if your happiness means something to them. This I like. We can also bring our 3 year old there because of the great deep booths which is an added plus. Pros: Great food. Great staff. Great place. more

Classic Italian Joint, friendliest staff and best italian food in LA. 3/6/2008

This was my first visit to Vitello's but it won't be my last. Me and a couple of my co-workers decided to go out for a nice dinner and we decided on Italian. We found Vitello's on City Search and chose it because it was near to where we work. The one block strip of Tujunga Ave., where Vitello's is located, is quaint. Neighboring the restaurant are a variety of shops, boutiques, cafe's and a theater.\r \r As soon as we opened the door of Vitello's we were warmly greeted by their maitre d', the cashier and the management. We were told that we had to wait a few minutes as they cleared a table for us but it was worth it. We briefly spoke with the Maitre d' and the manager and told them that it was our first time to the restaurant. The Maitre d' told us that we were in for a surprise and challenged us to dis-like the food. He said, ""he's never had a complaint"" The manager showed us to our booth and wished us, ""bon appetit"". \r \r Within seconds we were greeted by our waiter, Raul, and he took our drink order, we ordered a carafe' of chianti. When he came back with our Chianti he had a pizzetti that the management had sent over as an appetizer. The pizzetti was excellent, the crust was the thinest I have ever seen. I asked, Raul how they make the crust so thin, but he said it was a secret recipe.\r \r We sipped on our Chiantis and tried to decide on our entree's, the menu is huge. I decided to go with the traditional Lasagna. I grew up on Italian food, the classic recipes, and this was almost as good as mom used to make it. The dish was baked perfectly. My company had the chicken piccata and scampi. They said it was delicious, the best they've ever had.\r \r The staff was so friendly. Raul was an excellent waiter and the busboy was very attentive. Even the manager came over to check up on us and make sure everything was perfect. As we left, I had to tell the Maitre d' that he was right. And he joked about seeing us again tomorrow. He just might. Pros: Friendly staff, great food, first class service and classic italian ambience. Cons: Short wait, limited parking (but that's being picky) more

Vitellos is everything GREAT 3/4/2008

From the moment we walked in the door we were treated like royalty. This place has a charming and romantic atmosphere, it's a perfect place to take a date. We had the best calamari appetizer, and enjoyed a couple glasses of italian red wine. The entree was extremely tasty and good size portions too! I didn't think we had room for dessert,l but the waiter claimed that vitellos has the best canoli's around, and she was right . It was awesome. And on top of all that it wasn't too expensive, we'll definatly be back. This restaurant is doing something right. Pros: ambience Cons: parking was difficult more

Best Pizza in Los Angeles 2/25/2008

I don't usually write restaurant reviews but after the best meal I've had in years I felt compelled to share my experience at Vitello's. Not only is the food fantastic but the atmosphere and service can't be beat! Leo was the best waiter. His recommendations were spot on. I've never had such great garlic bread or calamari. Must try! Pros: service, food and convenient parking more

Outstanding Food and Service 2/25/2008

The waiter was extremely attentive. Food hot and tasty. Could not have asked for anything to be different. Highly recommend. Pros: old italian feel more

Don't bother! 1/2/2008

The food was okay but the energy in the place stunk. It feels like a morgue inside. Our server Lauren seemed as if she was going to have an aneurysm at any moment, she obviousley didn't have much experience adn she was rude. The restaurant feels very unorganized and sloppy. The manager also was rude when we were leaving. I never have felt the need to write a review on a restaurant but this place has had one too many strikes with me, my daughter once found a cochroach in her soda. Like I said, Don't bother! Try Micelli's! Cons: rude managment, not a cleanly environment more
