Virginia Living Museum in Newport News, is one of the areas best kept secrets. I don't think it is every very busy. We enjoy going there because of the number of exhibits and the beauty of the land. They have so much to offer, with sea turtles, wolfs, spiders, and beavers. Our whole family enjoyed the trip.
They have a 2 level building with 2 major solarium exhibits in half circles on each side. Then, there are educational areas and inside exhibits on each level also. You can take a walk in the woods to see other animals in beautiful, natural habitats.
We really enjoyed our visit, and the only downfall is that they had no cafe or food court. But, with many fast food restaurants nearby, you can easily get some food somewhere.
