It was better a year ago... 5/1/2007

I went to Vegas in April of 2006 and went here for the first time. I thought it was great and I was really looking forward to coming back. Oh, how things can change...\r \r With a group of eight people, we all waited through the line for about 10 minutes, paid, and then waited for 20 minutes before a table was ready for us. For such a large group, this was unacceptable considering the cost of the buffet.\r \r While the service we received at our table was good, the food just wasn't as good as I remembered. Just about the only decent thing I had was the prime rib. Wait a second, I thought this was a seafood buffet, right? One thing I like to remember is that good, fresh, fish shouldn't taste or smell ""fishy"". I'd already had flaky and delicious halibut earlier in the day and the halibut at Village was sub-par. I found that the deep fried seafood (of the breaded variety) was pretty good, but I find that harder to screw up.\r \r My girlfriend and I had the option to join the group for a second trip to the buffet later in our trip. We didn't end up going. Her experience with the sushi there was not pleasant. I remember hearing her say she nearly got sick after tasting it. Not good, folks. Pros: Quick with drink refills, desserts were alright Cons: The fish tasted fishy more

A fun attraction 11/22/2006

This is an attraction that is worth your time if in the area, but not worth going out of your way. The are several overhead floats included in the parade which are fun as well as a number of dancers performing on the floor level. Pros: Free show Cons: Not enough entertainment value to go out of your way more

Overpriced Rubbery Seafood...Don't go!!! 10/24/2006

We went to the Village buffet with high hopes since we are avid fans of the Rio Carnival World Buffet. As seafood lovers, we were excited about trying out this buffet at the same hotel. We were VERY disappointed. Don't be fooled by the idea that there will be an amazing assortment of fresh seafood here. The lobster was the most disgusting I've ever had, chewy, rubbery, bland, and mushy. Seafood should NOT taste like this. The crab legs were mediocre, same problem with the lobster - chewy, rubbery, and mushy. The Carnival World Buffet is a way better buffet for the price and selection. The crab legs there are 100 times better. DON'T GO! Pros: short line Cons: bad seafood, overpriced, rather pay more for better food more

Delicious crab 12/14/2005

We heard great things about this place & thought we'd give it a try. Some of the food was OK, but there were crab claws that were the best ever! I ate a little of everything, then, when I found the crab claws, that's all i ate the rest of the night. It was like a crab feed at our table. Might not be as fancy as some other places, but it was clean & very enjoyable. Had no problems with the crowd, but we went on a Monday night. Pros: Good selection, lots of seafood Cons: Off the strip more

Masquerade in the Sky 11/2/2005

Just returned Sunday. HAD to go Rio - was there 5 years ago - had a blast. UGH - downhill! The performers are VERY stingy with the beads. This is petty, but I got beads 5 years ago; gave them to my daughter - she wanted more; the only reason I got some this time was because an older lady overheard me say to hubby ""I'll never get any!""; took pity on me; gave me one of hers. We were there 3 times and no matter how much I hollered/waved, they just wouldn't throw me any! I mustn't have looked ""right"" :) Even the Chippendale dancers were very ""snooty"" - noticed they only threw them to the young ""hot"" girls -note to Rio - it's us ""older ladies"" who will probably spend more money in your casino - keep us happy and throw a few beads! Cons: Nasty performers, Stuck-up showgirls, Snotty Chippendales more

good food, hectic place 10/12/2005

My husband and I love seafood and the selection is wonderful here!! Every kind of crab imaginable as well as tons of other choices...it is however really crowded, expensive and has a less then desirable crowd at times..we could just as easily go to the gold coast seafood buffet on Thursdays which is good and saved alot of $ Pros: good selection Cons: crowded, expensive more

Don't Bother 6/30/2005

Unless you enjoy trying to fight through people that act like they haven't eaten in months, don't go to this buffet. The rudeness of the people that are trying to pile their plates as high as possible with the mushy slipper lobsters are pathetic. You can get better service at some of the 10 dollar buffets in Vegas. I would not recommend you waste your money at this buffet there are much better ones available in Vegas. If you are a tourist, you might want to go just to see all of the seafood (because you sure as heck can't get your hands on any!), but if you are local, like myself, you know there is much better offerings to be had. Pros: LOTS of Seafood, Bar in Restaurant Cons: POOR design, Can't get food more

parade in the sky 3/9/2003

This attraction has gone downhill in the last year. They now use canned music and only a fraction of the performers. The floats that were filled with dancers are now mostly empty. more

EXCITEMENT 3/3/2003

I THINK THE MASQUERADE PARADE IN THE SKY IS THE MOST EXCITING SHOW THAT THE WHOLE FAMILY CAN ENJOY AND BE A PART OF MY 2 LITTLE GIRLS JUST LOVE IT .THEY HAVE DIFFERENT THEMES OF THE SHOW THE COSTUMES ARE AMAZING ALL THE MANY COLORS IN LIGHTS .THE AUDIENCE JUST GETS SO ENERGIZED AND ALIVE DURING THE SHOW ITS WONDERFUL ESPECIALLY WHEN DANCERS THROW THE BEADS OUT IN TO THE AUDIENCE AND THE BEST PART ITS FREE!! Pros: EXCITING SHOW, KIDS ARE ALLOWED, INEXPENSIVE more

don't bother 2/22/2003

Since a new company took over the Show in the Sky, the ""show"" is but a shell of it's former self. It used to be a ""must see"", not anymore. It's been stripped down so much, they should just discontinue it. more

Fun for all! 1/24/2003

Great free entertainment for free! Lots of fun and something you won't see anywher else! Just watch out when they start throwing beads! I saw a senior citizen jump in front of a little boy just to grab some beads. It was pathetic! It's amazing to watch grown men and women make fools of themselves over some plastic beads! For $9.95 you can actually ride in one of the floats!!! My husband and I had a great time and plan to take our kids on it when we visit Las Vegas as a family. One of the most unique things you can do in Las Vegas for under $10! Pros: FREE, unique, $9.95 float ride Cons: Fighting over beads more

No as Good as it sounds 12/27/2002

The dancers were not good the music wasnt that much better and the props weren't that spectacular either. It was a waste of time to drive off the strip to see it. more

Great show! 8/30/2002

I loved the parade in the sky when I was in Vegas so much that I decided to ride one of the floats. It was great fun. When I went to inquire about it, they actually let me on the float for free! I got scads of Mardi Gras beads and had a fabulous time. Pros: Free, Entertaining Cons: Crowded more

It was SO-SO 8/28/2002

I had been told by many people that this was one of the THINGS TO DO. Boy were they wrong, I mean it is neat to see the floats in the air but I think it could use a little more pazazz. Thank goodness it was free or I would have been complaining. Cons: Dumb Desk Clerk more

Pizzazz 8/28/2002

It's Mardi Gras everyday. Children and adults can both enjoy the show, and those who catch a few beads feel like they've been part of the action. No one can see this attraction and not get a happy feeling. Pros: Accessible for all, good viewing of show more

Use to be great 8/6/2002

The Rio Used to be my number one attraction to visit in las vegas for the Masquerade in the sky show. I have seen it many many times. Well much to my dismay i went up this past weekend and of course made my stop to see my favorite show... I was let down big time! It's not what it used to be. Sure they sing and dance and throw some beads. But it's kind of boring now. They have a main stage where the dancers dance to the songs that come on and a couple of floats that ""float in the sky"" and they toss beaded necklaces out to the audience. The costumes are pretty colorful and everyone is smiling.. but its missing something ..I guess it's still worth checking out but dont get to happy.. more

Like being at Mardi Gras 7/26/2002

I've always enjoyed watching the Parade in the Sky. Trying to catch the beaded necklaces as they are thrown from the floats is fun. Being able to watch from the upstairs balcony area allows us to bring the kids with us to watch the parade. Pros: Free Parking, Multiple show times more
