They are defiantly not the Hospitality Hosts! 9/13/2009

This note is in regards to the owner Patti, not her husband Charlie; she should not be in the wedding or event business! I attended my cousins wedding this last weekend and was not impressed. I also was the florist for the wedding and right off she was not friendly and was demanding. She abruptly told me she was the ?Owner? and how long was I going to be parked there. We arrived at 1:30 and the guest would not be arriving until after 3:00 so it was not like we were in the way. She then went off and was not seen again until I arrived back at the wedding in attendance. Things were flowing according to the plan but with tension coming from all aspects such as bridesmaids, groomsmen and the wedding coordinator Jen, which by the way was wonderful and put up with a lot from Patti. Patti walked around with an apron on like she was hired help with a frown on her face at all times. People would ask ?who is that lady? and when told she was the owner nobody could believe it! Later in the evening it turned chilly and when asked to turn on the gas fire pit her husband came over without a problem and turned it on. We later learned Patti told the brides parents that because the fire pit was turned on that would be an extra $75.00 charge. Wow! With my past experience with either working an event or attending an event, the host is usually dressed according to the event attire and making sure everyone is enjoying the evening and making you feel comfortable as if it were your home, and accommodating guests whether it is to answer a question, tending to their needs or turning on heaters if they were cold with a SMILE. The evening just got worse as the night went on and too much to mention. I was so sad for our family who had to deal with her that evening and the next day. The Bride and Groom enjoyed ?their day? and made it a fun night for all regardless of the host who tried to ruin their day. Shame on you Patti! Pros: The view Cons: zero hospitality more

Some pretty significant glitches... 7/23/2009

I waited two weeks to write this review of the wedding venue, so I'd cool off a bit from the things that went wrong - that shouldn't have. Every wedding has a few glitches, but your event hostess should not be the cause of them, and should be there to help fix them. Sadly, this was not the case. The first major glitch was a phone call four days before the wedding, canceling the use of the rooms at their bed and breakfast, and saying the newly weds could stay at the nearby La Quinta Hotel, instead. The owner had a death in the family, and while we sympathize with her loss, we could not understand how this changed the availability of the room! A wedding night in a hotel, with all the other guests, is NOT the same as a night in a fairytale setting (which this site is). Then there were a couple of problems at the event, and since the owner was not there to resolve them, an event planner was left to wing it. The most major was when it came time to sit down to dinner - no sweetheart table! And the event planner seemed unwilling to do anything to fix it. The DJ had to convince her to go find a table. So while the other guests were seated and waiting, the bride and groom were left standing awkwardly, as tables were moved to re-arrange things, and a table was set. It was not done graciously, or with apologies to the couple, but treated as an imposition. That and the rooms being revoked from the couple just never should have happened. Inexcusable. The other little glitches (bartender MIA at times, etc.,) we could have lived with, and it wouldn't have been a big deal. But it still remains to be seen (two weeks later) if the owner will compensate the couple with a partial refund for the other problems - especially the rooms. I'll come back and update that outcome, but until then, we wouldn't recommend this venue. Not for such an important day, and not when you are really on the hosts to resolve problems - not create them. That's too bad, because it really is a stunningly beautiful site. Pros: Beautiful venue, incredible views Cons: Last minute changes/flaws that shouldn't have been more

Ruined our wedding 6/26/2009

My fianc? and I recently decided to have our wedding at the Villa de Buena Vista, after a few nice preliminary meetings with the owner. Once the contract was signed and they had our money, everything changed. I?ve never dealt with anyone who so obviously does not wish to have customers. After choosing the location we first met with local vendors (florist, cake, DJ, photographer, etc.). Each vendor we met with expressed surprise when we told them the wedding would be at the Villa de Buena Vista and they were reluctant to take the job. One even shared with me the evidence she had found online of more than one bride who had made complaints against the Villa de Buena Vista for things like overcharging and failure to provide the services in the wedding contract. Since we had already paid for the site we decided to stick it out. Boy was that a bad decision. When we would arrange to meet with vendors at the Villa, the owner would actually call the vendor to cancel our meeting, and would act like we hadn?t properly cleared the meeting with her, despite the fact that I had the email communications to prove we had. On the day of the wedding the owner was openly angry and rude for no reason whatsoever. Our guests would repeatedly ask us what was wrong because of all the drama. Instead of being a leisurely, beautiful day there was constant tension and conflict between the property owner and our guests. When guests would ask when they could find the bathroom, the owner would give them a long list of rules about the property and accuse them of trespassing in their home, never actually answering their simple question. At one point during the reception the owner stormed through the tables during the best man?s toast?we even have this part of video and should post online. After the wedding we found our credit card vastly overcharged and we had to open a dispute with the credit card company to get our money back. I would strongly advise anyone considering a Paso Robles wedding to look elsewhere and to run, not walk, away from the Villa de Buena Vista. Cons: Owner is abusive, rude and unprofessional more

Wedding Nightmare!!!! 11/3/2008

So if you looking for the worst experience ever... you have found the place. I have honestly never been treated so poorly in my whole life. There were times I thought the owner was joking because no one would say such mean things seriously, but she was being completely serious! She held it together just long enough to get our deposit and than it was over... she completey turned into this monster. My favorite was when we needed to pick out our wine for the wedding because my soon to be father in law thought it was a good idea to buy it from her to make it easier... even at $20 dollars a bottle. So I made an appointment to go up to the house with my finace, mom, dad and soon to be father in law. When we got there so said she only had a bottle of port open and that she did not want to open any new bottles... so that left us a bit confused since we were there for a tasting. Needless to say we decided not to buy any wine from her and we were happy to pay the ridiculous corkage fee just to spite her. Who does that... ridiculous! Then I also loved that she put all the tables and chairs out the night before and of course they were all soaking wet in the morning so me and my bridal party were out drying off all 150 chairs and tables because she said we would need to take care of that. I had actually booked 2 of the rooms for the night of and no one stayed there because they were so fed up with her they just wanted to leave. I had too many guests come up and ask me who the ""b...ch"" was during the wedding... that was very pleasant for me and I can only imagine all the guests she offended during the reception. Oh geese, what a nightmare that all was. more

beautiful place, ugly attitude 10/19/2008

My fiance and I recently came to this place for a ""meet and greet"" but unfortunately... there was no greeting to this meeting. Patti was rude from the moment we showed up for our scheduled appointment. She rushed us through the grounds which were the most amazing, beautiful scenery of paso robles thus far. I definately would have my dream wedding at this location... Pros: heavenly place Cons: wolf in sheeps clothing more

Worst vacation I've ever had 8/15/2008

I'm sad to say my stay at the Villa de Buena Vista was the wort vacation of my adult life. The problem is not with the site, the view or the local area. These actually were wonderful and I would highly recommend visiting Paso Robles and the Central Coast of California. The problem with the Villa de Buena Vista, you see, is the management. After paying an exorbitant price for a bed & breakfast, we found that the rooms were not clean, there were no towels available, no key to the room was provided, and when we had questions or needed assistance we received neither. It seems that the management of this facility operate as a husband and wife team, with the wife serving as the manager of the B&B and breakfast cook. The breakfast on both mornings was substandard and was nothing close to the wonderful spread that was advertised. Pros: The view is quie nice Cons: The management more

Great Experience 5/26/2008

I just have to say that this was one of most relaxing weekends I have had in a long time, We were refered by a friend that just aboustly loved it so we thought we would give it a try. We were greeted by Charlie and Patti and they were glad to see us, they treated us like family, The room was excellent and everything that came with it. They were always so helpful with finding things to do and recommendtions. Breakfast was so good and relaxing that we didnt have care in the world. Its a great to go and just relax Pros: Great People Cons: Had to leave back to reality more

Best Time 5/19/2008

I just have to say that My experience at the Villa de Buena Vista was nothing but extradonary, we had a very peaceful and relaxing time, the owners Charlie and Patti are some of nicest people I will ever met, Breakfast was the one of best parts of our stays, very good and relaxing taking our time. We came and went as we wanted and were never asked a question about it. We felt so much at home that sometimes we had to pinch ourselves that we were just visiting. I will defintily be returning and cant wait to just go and not have a care in the world as they take of everything Thanks again Charlie and Patti Pros: The hospitality more

A scary experience 5/14/2008

I?ve traveled extensively worldwide, and I?ve never been compelled to write a negative review until now. I feel obligated to share the incident because what my fiance and I experienced during our stay was so disturbing and sad, that we have to warn others. We spent a weekend staying at the Villa de Buena Vista in Paso Robles, California and expected to have a nice time touring vineyards, tasting wine, and getting away from the fast pace of Los Angeles life. Instead we were met with an angry innkeeper who made our weekend so unpleasant that we left early and stayed at a nearby hotel. The owners of the Bed & Breakfast seemed like kind and inviting people until shortly after we arrived. It?s clear to us now that the owners actually resent the presence of guests on their property, and any misstep on the part of a guest will be immediately met with an angry confrontation. This 3-room B&B is arranged with 2 rooms set aside from the main building and one guest room located inside the main house situated upstairs next to the owner?s master bedroom. On one occasion we entered the side door of the house to go up to our room. The owner was waiting for us and scolded us for not respecting their privacy, calling us ?rude? and other remarks. We explained that we were just going to our room but to no avail. After we got into our room, we found that things had been moved, as if someone had been in our room. The next day I asked the owners about this, and they didn?t admit having been in the room, but acted as thought they thought this would be justified saying that, ?This is our home, after all.? Our experience at breakfast was also very poor. The owner was on the phone most of the time and didn?t attend to us. Finally we left and ate our Breakfast downtown. The owners often complained to us about how the Bed & Breakfast has made their life at unpleasant. I have to ask, if you don?t enjoy the presence of guests on your property, why would you operate a Bed & Breakfast? Pros: A nice view and elegant architecture. Cons: Any misstep will lead to an angry confrontation. more

Great Place to Stay 4/20/2008

I have had the great pleasure of staying at Villa de Buena Vista on several occassins, The trip was very relaxing and enjoyable, Charlie and Patti are very nice and go out of thier way to make sure that you are having an enjoyable time. The grounds are beautiful and quite relaxing. I have taken my children there and Charlie and Patti are nothing but great to them as well. Everyone has fallen in love with Villa de Buena Vista and sure we will return again. And if I ever marry, they will be top on my list. Pros: Patti and Charlie and of course Petey more

Definitely not recommended. An awful experience. 4/8/2008

My fiance and I attended a friend's wedding here recently, and host of the venue was absolutely awful. Prior to the wedding, she canceled pre-wedding meetings between the bride and her vendors saying she needed some ""time off"" but didn't tell the bride this. The bride traveled from out of state only to find that her meetings were canceled. On the night prior to the wedding, she actually raised her voice and yelled at the bride in my presence, angry over some minor detail that was out of place. I was with the bride for many of her wedding planning meetings, and I know she was very organized, but the host of the venue was just terrible to her. The night before her wedding, I had to watch my friend break down into tears after the previously mentioned angry exchange. It seemed the host of the venue was actually working to sabotage the wedding in small ways! Pros: The site is beautiful and clean Cons: The venue host is very difficult to work with more

Vacation Bliss 1/13/2008

We stayed at Villa de Buena Vista in February 2007 with some friends and thought it was a vacation paradise. The entire weekend was flawless, the grounds are amazing, the rooms are gorgeous, the food and wine were wonderful and the owners were incredibly hospitable. Before the weekend was over, we were calling them Aunt Patti & Uncle Charlie because we felt we were staying with our favorite relatives. Pros: Spacious, comfortable rooms, amazing views, wonderful hosts more

Beautiful, Relaxing & Fun 12/19/2007

We just return from visiting family in Paso Robles. My sister set us up at the beautiful Villa de Buena Vista B&B-Wow what a wonderful place. We had such a relaxing and peaceful visit. Our family was able to join us one afternoon for wine & cheese at the Villa-it was a treat for everyone. Our room was warm and beautiful, just what we were looking for and the entertainment room was out of this world. The owners were great to hang out with and gave us lot of local information about the wine business and the Central Coast. One night we had a great time with the owners playing a fun new wine board game with them. The grounds were beautiful even in their winter state and I can't wait to come back to see them in the Spring or Summer. We hope to return with some good friends next year and enjoy all the wonderful things that Villa de Buena Vista has to offer. Pros: Beautiful ambience, great service, wonderful food & wine Cons: Little far from town more

Best Venue & B&B In Paso Robles 12/6/2007

I recently had my wedding at Villa De Buena Vista and stayed two nights there with my family, it was the best experience ever!!!! The Villa was beautiful and our wedding was wonderful. Patti was so helpful and such a delight to work with. She thoroughly went through her contract and made sure we understand the rules and conditions of having such an event at her home. I think others need to respect the contract that we are all required to sign in order to have a wedding there and also respect that it is their private home. Planning a wedding can be overwhelming and stressful but we had such a great experience there and look forward to sharing many more romantic nights at Villa De Buena Vista. Not to mention the breakfast was to die for, Patti is such a good chef and made some wonderful dishes!!! Don't believe the hype this place is wonderful. Pros: Beautiful grounds and great rooms Cons: Rooms get booked fast because it is beautiful!!!!! more

Me thinks they do protest too much: 12/2/2007

My husband and I stayed at Villa de Buena Vista in July 2007. As a matter of fact, everything negative that's been written is quite opposite from what we experienced. I suppose if I were a bride and wanted everything my way regardless of rules established for the safety of guests and welfare of the property, I could go on a rampage to destroy someone's livelihood. (When you read the posts on the local Website, there are many common threads in this tapestry that are very telltale for sensible readers.) Pros: The people, Charlie and Patti Youngclaus Cons: Not having more time to stay longer more
