Want the real thing? If you do, drive past the drive thru at Starbucks and other national or regional ""fast-coffee"" type shops.

Great coffee - weak pastries. 1/26/2007

Very cozy atmosphere and I've always had excellent lattes. Breakfast sandwich is passable, the rest of the pastries are pretty bad. This place could be so much better - get the pastries from Pomegrante up the street, Walter! The best thing to eat here are Walter's waffles that he makes on Sat and Sun but only when they are relatively hot off the press in the early morning - divine. Don't bother with the old ones they stick in the pastry case - dried out and a shadow of the real thing. Also it's cash only. more

Walter times your visit! 12/10/2006

I have been going to Victor's at least once a week since moving to the area 8 months ago now. After today's experience, I will never go back. Since reading the reviews I am not suprised by what I experienced this morning. I had my study books with me and Walter approached and told me that they have a ""study limit"" of one hour, and that he had been watching me, and that I had ten minutes left until I needed to leave. I was shocked! I had never been told off before (even after 4hrs of studying) AND to know that I had been ""timed"". I was not even half way through my coffee.. yet I was to leave! Also, what demise does that leave for studiers over gossipers who can sit there for more than one hour? Also, I usually have a coffee, fresh OJ, and a scone.. (nearing 10 dollars) and yet am told to leave after one hour simply because I have books. For all Walter knew, I was leaving within the hour anyway - but to be rude and tell me to leave when he saw I was still drinking HIS coffee... I just found it absurd! Even for a pick up and run coffee, Victor's has lost my business - and my ""hour-long"" meetings with study groups.. easily bringing in $60... forget it Walter, it's going to Starbucks where no-one bothers you how long you have been there - nor judges between those with books and those with mouths! Dissaponted as the coffee is great and we like supporting family businesses not giants! more

Love their coffee 11/26/2006

I've been coming here for years, before the change of hands. The coffee is so good. Chai is wonderful too... Pros: Chai, coffee Cons: parking more

Great coffee, bummer about Walter 9/14/2006

Victor's used to be a part of the standard morning routine for both me and my wife. I'm sure we've spent thousands of dollars there over the years. We put up with Walter because we liked the coffee and the staff. But after an experience where Walter was rude to my wife (easily one of Victor's most loyal customers) and kicked her out of the restaurant, we haven't been back. I can only hope that either (a) word will get around, business will drop off, and Walter will be forced to sell the business to somebody that cares about customer service; or (b) Walter will apologize. If either of those happens, we're back in a second. As lots of other folks around here have said, it does indeed have the best coffee on the eastside. Pros: Great coffee. Cons: Walter (the owner) more

Downhill fast... 9/12/2006

Well, sadly I report that my experience with Victor's hasn't been top notch for quite sometime now. I've been going there just about daily for nearly a year and half now and it has been in a slow decline ever since my first visit. Though the coffee itself is usually better than most big named chains the service is increasingly deteriorating. With the implementation of the new computerized cash register it seemed that only few knew how to work it and they have all quit recently. Plus I have also experienced the scorched or lukewarm milk and half toasted breakfast sandwiches as well (usually thanks to Walter). My biggest gripe however is the fact that I too have heard from former employees about poor management on behalf of Walter. It was easy to see that things weren't the same there in the recent past. Once friendly and cheerful baristas no longer wore smiles on their faces and chatted about their weekends but instead reported they were no longer to socialize with customers and just make the coffee. It's too bad really, because what once was a bright start to my day is no longer an option, I'd rather go to Starbucks where I know that customer service is high on the priority list. Cons: parking, service, seating more

Victor's is Great 9/11/2006

I have to strongly disagree with acroft. I too am a loyal long time customer . Back to the Jane and Victor days when they where out on Avondale road. Yes things have changed but so has Redmond. But don't kid yourself, Jane and Victor ran a tight ship. Did Victor ever talk to you when he was making coffee? I don't think so. Walter is a tuff cookie, but a softie at heart. I've known him from his "" pioneer days"". People don't hear about how he has helped several employees more than once. I know for a fact, that two of his recent employees have moved away, one is pregnant, one went corporate and two where "" Let go"" . But all that being said. Victor's still makes the best cup of coffee on the Eastside. As a business owner I know it isn't easy to please everyone nor is it easy to find good employees. Pros: Best Coffee on Eastside Cons: Can get crowded on Sat. and Sun. mornings more

Owner Ruining this Great Place 9/10/2006

I get a coffee everyday from this place and agree that it is a nice change from the Starbucks and such. The owner, Walter is insane though. Everyone of the baristas, with exception of one has recently quit because of him. He wants to turn this great place into another ""get em in, get em out"" coffee place. Once I could talk to the baristas, now they get in trouble for doing it. Once they would make the coffee ""unique"" but no more thanks to the great business mind of Walter. I love the coffee, but more than that I loved the environment of this place. I would like to thank Walter for ruining my daily, morning venture and making it such a miserable place to work that all of current staff (who are great) feel they can no longer work in this type of micro-managed nonsense environment. I am sure Victor would be proud to see what Walter has destroyed. Pros: Good coffee Cons: Crazy owner more

Nice change from Starbucks 6/13/2006

This is a great sit down coffee place. Love going here with hubby to have some quiet time. The coffee is the best. more

Not as good as it used to be 4/5/2006

Things just haven't been the same since Victor left. The new owner is a blight on the establishment, constantly rushing around and barking at both the customers and employees. The baristas try to make a decent latte, but it's hit and miss on quality and scalded milk or excess syrup is sadly a regular occurrance. The attention to detail just isn't there anymore. Their new study and laptop rule - max 1 hour, enforced prompty by the owner regardless of coffee purchases or time of day - makes it a very uncomfortable place to read or catch up on email. I used to love this place and wish I had something better to say, but it's just sad to see such a great place decline so rapidly. more

One of Redmond's Best kept secrets 12/4/2004

Victors is by far the best ambience in a little coffee company. Grab a book from the used bookstore next door, settle in with a nice snack and Espresso and feel the warmth from the fireplace. All in all, this is the place to get some light reading done and enjoy the best coffees in the world. more

PRIDE IN MAKING COFFEE 2/13/2004

Victors is a nice change from the slop that Starbucks calls coffee......the lattes are so creamy and smooth even when it is nonfat....they take pride in their barista skills and it shows.....breakfast sandwich is awesome and quite a bargain.....wish there was more seating like a backroom or something. Pros: excellent lattes, great breakfast sand, nice people Cons: , not a ton of seats more

Coffee tastes odd 2/10/2003

I'm not sure whether it's the espresso or the milk, but the lattes I've had here taste odd. I'd describe it as ""earthy"" - the way goat cheese is earthy. The staff are nice. The interior is cramped - some would call it cozy. If the coffee was good, and the customers less odd, it would be a nice hang out. Pros: A could-be hangout Cons: Odd tasting coffee, Some customers weird more

my new addiction 8/27/2002

from the first time i walked into victor's, i was hooked. this little coffeeshop has what other coffee companies need- unique style, creative atmosphere and truly great coffee. it is the perfect place to hang out with friends, read a good book or check out the live music and poetry readings that pack the little shop every Firday and Saturday night. victor's is the eastside's best kept secret that undoubtedly will not remain secret for long. Pros: great decor, lots of seating areas, outdoor seating more

Good Things Come in Small Packages 8/8/2002

It may be a small shop, and rather crowded on the weekends, but the atmosphere is friendly and comfortable, the coffee delicious and creative, and there are special perks (no pun intended), such as live music on Friday nights and poetry slams one or two Saturdays per month. Their chocolate whipped cream is a delicious ""trademark"". Pros: Outdoor seating, Recently expanded, Downtown Redmond Cons: Not much parking, Coffee beans high $$$ more

Friendly and Homey 8/8/2002

Great beans, coffee and friendly, down to earth service. Try the dill burgers. Cons: Not dog friendly more
