VICTORIAN CROWS NEST: AN UNBELIEVABLE WEDDING EXPERIENCE \r \r First, I just want to thank Shirley and Coffield for making my wedding all that I wished (or dreamed) it could be. I initially fell in love with the Victorian Crow’s Nest when my now husband and I toured the location in the wintery January weather. Despite having ice on the ground, the venue still won us over in terms of beauty and elegance. Upon meeting Shirley, we instantly knew that this was the place God was calling us to hold the ceremony and to celebrate the beginning of our marriage. From the breath-taking outdoor gardens to the warm, welcoming indoor ballroom, the atmosphere exceeded all expectations. It is truly something special. \r \r While there are many aspects to planning a wedding, I would just like to point out a few areas that really impressed me during the process:\r \r • Being a very organized person myself, I was thrilled at how detail-oriented Shirley was throughout the entire process. She made sure to leave no stone unturned, and she was always available to meet multiple times in person months before the wedding or to chat via email whenever I had questions or concerns. \r \r • Another thing that helped reduce my stress was the fact that Shirley is so connected in the wedding industry and was able to make fantastic recommendations for flowers, photographers, DJs, and cake bakeries. She also has a chef that works for the VCN who can make any dish you desire (and believe me the food was all DELICIOUS). \r \r • More importantly, Shirley made sure that her thoughts and ideas coincided with my thoughts and ideas, and I greatly appreciated her true and honest opinion as to what she thought would work/look best. She always had great suggestions that showcased her passion and experience in the wedding industry. That being said, Shirley ALWAYS emphasized how it was the bride’s final decision for everything and anything, no matter what. Shirley made it clear that her ultimate goal was to make my family and me happy by putting together a stunningly classy and elegant dream wedding. Just to give one example of this, the day before my wedding, I noticed that the bows on the reception chairs were tied in a way that we had not discussed. I told Shirley not to worry about changing it due to the amount of effort it would take to remove them all from the chairs, re-iron them, and then put them all back on correctly. However, upon arrival to the Victorian Crow’s Nest on my wedding day, all of the bows had been corrected. Needless to say, throughout my experience it has been evident how much pride Shirley has in her work and it showed in her (and the staff members’) devotion to making my day exactly the way I wanted it. \r \r I also feel blessed to have had the opportunity to meet and work with Shirley and her staff. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the wedding planning process, and it was a joy to invest in their lives and them in mine. It was truly a remarkable to be able to work alongside others with the focus always being centered on Christian values, and making sure that this momentous occasion would be God honoring and reflect His goodness and love. more

Every little girl dreams of her wedding day and how perfect it will be. Our daughter had that fairytale ideal in her mind as well, but none of us truly anticipated the perfect reality that Shirley and Cofield Hilburn, the proprietors of the Victorian Crow's Nest, created for us. Every aspect of the wedding day was meticulously planned, but all aspects seemed effortless and flowed steadily and smoothly thanks to the Hilburns and their wonderful staff. Shirley kept saying that details would create the elegant ambiance we desired, and she was right. The pavilion aisles and gazebo arch were adorned with gorgeous combinations of greenery, flowers and ribbons that accentuated our daughter's colors. Even the table where Candace and Mike did their sand ceremony was beautifully draped in shimmering, delicate fabrics that highlighted the simplicity of that part of the service. The ballroom was breathtaking with ecru-colored lace tablecloths atop tables adorned with spectacular arrangements of hydrangeas, roses, and orchids. The buffet dessert table featured the elegant wedding cake along with many cakes, cupcakes, and cookies all displayed so beautifully that just looking at them was a feast for the eyes. The buffet dinner was a gourmet experience. All aspects were first rate from the beautiful presentation to the delicious taste. I can't say how much people have raved about the food, how much they genuinely enjoyed their dining experience and the quality and diversity of the entree options. I could go on and on about the many personal touches that Shirley suggested that made the wedding so memorable and personal like all the picture frames she provided, and we filled with special photos of the bride and groom; the memory table she created to honor Candace's grandparents who were so influential in her life; the coordination of a special surprise song for the bride and groom during the wedding ceremony that entailed working with singers, the DJ, the entire wedding party, and many children from the audience. In other words, she suggested wonderful ideas herself and welcomed any special requests we had as well. I sincerely want to thank Cofield and Shirley and their entire staff from the chefs and kitchen staff to the designers to the bartenders to the servers; all of you were so professional, warm, creative, and accommodating. Additionally, the vendors that we found through the VCN were first rate, and we highly recommend them(Darryl and Janice Hare-hair and make-up; Wescottage Music-live music from a string quartet; Nathan Wilkins-DJ/Reception Master of Ceremony). All in all, if you are looking for a magical experience that you will never forget, go to the VCN. The fairytale awaits you!\r \r Andee and Dennis Woodcock, parents of the bride August 31, 2013\r \r more

\r Shirley, God knows how full our hearts are after the most perfect wedding day. There truly are no human words to express our heartfelt gratitude for all you have done to fulfill our daughter’s dreams. With the many, many weddings you have already hosted you made Kevin and Elise feel as though their wedding was the only one. The gift you have for making everyone feel loved, wanted, welcomed and included in all the planning aspects right up to the very end of tossing the rose petals at them as the most perfect day came to a close completed every hope and vision this day could possibly hold. The way you and Cofield lovingly work together with all the staff at the Victorian Crow’s Nest pouring yourselves into every detail made the moments of Elise’s wedding day absolutely the most blessed day God has ever gifted us with. We couldn’t have imagined 20 years ago when Elise told us she was going to get married at the pretty white house exactly what that day would be like, but we felt it, saw it, tasted it, heard it and loved every moment of it immensely! How blessed other brides have been and will be all because of your attention to detail but more over the love that you put into it all of it so that all the days of planning are fulfilled on that special day for every bride that comes to the Victorian Crow’s Nest. May God return to you all the joy and laughter and love we so exceedingly received from you, Cofield and everyone at the Victorian Crow’s Nest.\r more

I recently had my wedding here and I wondered why this venue had 5 stars and realized there are hardly any reviews for the number of weddings that take place here!! I guess only several people out of the 100's of weddings felt happy enough to write something. I am here to tell you that my experience was far less than perfect and there is not enough space on here for me to explain why. You will be made a lot of promises in the beginning and it will sound wonderful but once they get your money your just another number. Where to begin??? I was told when I first signed on, that my wedding would be the only event that weekend which would make anyone feel special right? Wrong!! We found out that a birthday party would be taking place the night of my rehearsal at the venue. Shirley (the owner) actually told my wedding party and my family that we need to make this rehearsal quick because she had to get back to the party inside the ballroom!! Also, Shirley was SUPPOSED to be my wedding coordinator the day of my wedding. When my minister was running late, she proceeded to ASK ME where the minister was while I am sitting here trying to get ready. My guests were then sitting outside wondering what was going on and nobody made a single announcement as to what the delay was and left them confused and anxious. During the reception, we had the cake cutting/champagne toast and nobody was there to guide us through what to do. We were looking around for Shirley to but she disappeared with my flowers that were on my cake table. So the flowers, Shirley asked my Mother and Mother and Law if she could have the flowers for a ""charity"" event after my wedding. They said yes but they would like some to take home. At the end of the wedding, when the rude staff was rushing everyone out the door, one of my guests was grabbing a flower piece for my mother and Shirley yelled at him and told him not to give those flowers away. He explained that it was for our parents and she proceeded to yell at him and made a scene which totally ruined my sendoff!!! Come to find out, Shirley bold faced lied to us about the flowers being used for a charity event. UNPROFESSIONAL!!! I am also livid with how my own parents were treated when they were trying to gather all of my stuff and rush out of the venue at the end of the night. They were snapped at by the staff and treated like second class citizens. DO NOT HAVE A WEDDING HERE! more

June 9th 2012\r The Victorian Crow's Nest is a wonderful place to get married! I had my beautiful, elegant, classic, yet affordable wedding here this past summer. When I think back to my wedding day I would not change one thing. Shirley and her staff did everything to make my day magnificent. From the flowers, DELICIOUS food, invitations, music, decorations, etc. Everything was customized to our specifications and I couldn't have asked for anything more. My family and friends raved that it was the best wedding they had ever been to. I felt that with Shirley, there was nothing I had to worry about. When my rehearsal night and wedding day came, I got to enjoy them instead of running around worrying about small (or big) details, because I knew they were being taken care of. Then weeks later when I received the wedding photos I was so happy with them being taken in such a beautiful and classic setting. All of Shirley's advice and planning made for a wonderful day that I will never forget. I would HIGHLY recommend this venue for any event but especially for a wedding. Thank you so much for such an incredible day!\r Jill and Ken Indian Trail, NC more

April 16, 2011 VCN-The Perfect Setting For A Garden Wedding! 4/21/2011

The minute we walked onto the front porch, I knew this was going to be the perfect place for my daughter's wedding. The beautiful Victorian house, built in 1884, has a romantic and welcoming feeling. We toured the house and then we saw the magnificent ballroom! It is absolutely gorgeous! It tastefully and elegantly decorated. The room is lined with large beautiful windows that overlook the manicured landscaping and meticulous gardens. This was exactly what Jackie wanted for her garden ceremony. As you can see from the pictures posted, the gazebo, with circular steps that serves as a natural alter, is beautifully transformed on the day of the wedding into a beautiful back-drop that enhances the ceremony. The owners have recently added a cultured-stone waterfall that is just magnificent. The walkway was lined with small flower bouquets in colors to matched our wedding colors. It was just perfect! Absolutely breathtaking!\r \r But, the most important reason why we chose The Victorian Crow's Nest was because once we met the owners, Shirley and Cofield Hilburn, I knew my daughter wasn't going to be just another bride who got married there. Shirley made us feel like ours was the only wedding that was ever going to take place at her beautiful home. She spent many hours working with us, giving us very good, honest suggestions and advice. We never felt like she was too busy with other weddings to answer questions or make an appointment with us. She has very high standards that she sets to please her brides and she makes sure that their every wish and dream comes true! Shirley took care of everything except the cake, DJ, and photographer. Her staff is very talented from designing all of the flowers, including the bridal and bridesmaids bouquets, table centerpieces, and ceremony flowers, to table decorations, and preparing, and presenting the food. And the food was EXCELLENT! We received so many compliments about the food. Cofield is the ""silent"" partner and the two of them compliment and balance each other which makes everything run smoothly. \r \r Overall, it was an excellent experience. I honestly cannot say one negative word about this place, right down to the weather. The entire morning it stormed and we thought there was no way we were going to have the ceremony outdoors. But Shirley told us not to worry and we would decide what to do up to an hour before the wedding was scheduled to start. There were tornadoes going on around us but at 4:00 pm when that ceremony was scheduled to start, there was bright sunshine and blue skies and my daughter's dreams came true! I would have sworn there was a plastic bubble over the garden! The next day when we saw the news of all the bad weather that went on around us, we were amazed!\r \r I would highly recommend The Victorian Crow's Nest for any event but it is especially perfect for a wedding. more

October 1, 2010 ~ Mandy & Adam Mills 11/24/2010

Every little girl dreams of having the most beautiful and enchanting wedding so the moment our daughter Mandy got engaged, I took her to see the Victorian Crow's Nest in Monroe. We weren't even out of the car yet and she was in tears, happy tears! The sheer elegance and beauty of the Victorian estate is magnificent. The proprieters, Shirley and Cofield took us right in and gave us the grand tour. Mandy immediately knew her dreams of the perfect wedding would become a reality at the Crow's Nest. Being recent graduates of ASU, Mandy and her fiance Adam knew they wanted a black and gold Appalacian State theme but weren't quite sure how it would fit with the Victorian estate. With Shirley's expertise, and Mandy's love for sunflowers, the estate was elegantly decorated to capture the theme perfectly. From the outside cocktail party on the courtyard to the magical evening of fine dinner and dancing in the grand ballroom, the wedding was a dream come true! Shirley's attention to every detail made planning a wedding with over 200 wedding guests and quite a large wedding party seem simple! The Hilburn's were the ultimate wedding planners and hosts. Our guests are still raving about what a wonderful evening they had. Thank you for giving Mandy and Adam the wedding of their dreams! more

A gem in Monroe, NC! 6/9/2010

Everyone wants their wedding to be the most unique, breathtaking event ever. When I met Shirley and Cofield, I knew that my wedding day would be nothing less than perfect! Shirley was extremely accommodating reassuring me that, though I was planning the wedding from CT, she would certainly remember the things that a new bride overlooks. My emails and phone calls to Shirley never went unanswered, and when I made unexpected visits to the Crow’s Nest, Cofield would escort me as I strolled the grounds fantasizing about my special day. I often felt like I was visiting my home away from home! As you might imagine, the days before the wedding are the craziest. Shirley instinctively eased my nerves and blew away the butterflies when I felt them starting to flutter. She was a dream! I could not have imagined a more perfect day for my wedding on May 1, 2010. The grounds were immaculate. The ceremony and reception flowed effortlessly. When the hiccups arose (as they inevitably do), Shirley and Cofield didn’t miss a beat! They quickly provided little cards for my guests to write on when the guest book was left. Shirley even called me weeks later when she discovered that I had left one behind--her message, “Where do you want me to mail it?” \r \r If you are looking to have a glorious garden wedding with a wedding coordinator that makes you feel like you’re sitting at your momma’s kitchen table discussing your dream of a wedding, then do not hesitate to book the Victorian Crow’s Nest. Thanks to the Crow’s Nest staff, my experience far exceeded my expectations! \r Pros: Great southern garden venue, fabulous staff, great food! Cons: No cons more

Victorian Crow's Nest was AMAZING 6/7/2010

Our March 27th wedding was truly perfect. The gazebo was a beautiful setting for an outdoor ceremony and the landscaping is beautiful. The entry rooms were great for pre-dinner reception (The pulled-pork sweet potato biscuits were a huge hit!) and they even had a room especially for gifts and cards. The reception was wonderful and Shirley performed magic when we had a mis-count on guests!\r The room was not only exquistely decorated but also perfect for dancing and drinks. There was even a large TV at the back of the room for our slide shows! The sit-down dinner well-presented and the table decorations lovely.\r Shirley truly worked within our budget-no ""hidden costs"" like many venues. She also handled our invitations and custom-decorated my mother's bible, as well as all the floral arrangements.\r It was a pleasure to work with Shirley and Colfield. They are as charming and wonderful as their beautiful Victorian home. \r PS: We were concerned about hotel accomodations but the Residence Inn at Stonecrest was less than 30 minutes away and offered special wedding rates. Pros: Incredibly organized and experienced more

The Wedding of a Lifetime at the Victorian Crow's Nest 4/27/2010

A parent dreams of what the wedding for their daughter will be. We adopted ours 25 yrs ago & the dream began---it had to be storybook, magical, beautiful , like no other every seen--a cinderella moment. My daughter experienced all of this and more this past weekend - Saturday, 4/24/2010.\r \r Shirley and Cofield Hilburn are the proprietors and the planners. NO STONE GOES UNTOUCHED. The Hilburns are pros at what they do--they think of everything that other planners just wouldn't. They are lovely people with wonderful personalities. Shirley and Cofield are the kind of people you fall in love with because their first consideration is you and your event. Both strive to create your dream and they do. Every detail was perfect and as previously stated---MORE than we asked for/expected.\r \r Shirley is the main planner. We met many times to plan our daughter's wedding. She took the time to get to know me and my daughter and ""understand"" us. She helped us find vendors, jewelry-----you name it and she did it. Shirley is available at any time for anything.\r \r As far as the actual wedding and reception-------I truly feel that ours could have been on ""Platinum Wedding"" the reality show., The flowers were beautiful and the creativity along with it was just breathtaking---from the gorgeous gazebo to the elegant silver trumpet vases filled with beautifully arranged flowers, greenery and other elelgant surprises that graced each table at the reception. Flowers were EVERYWHERE--even down to the smallest of details! Shirley is a floral designer and her talents are beyond compare.\r \r Our food was exceptional. We had a morning brunch buffet. The food was delicious----beautifully arranged--set up so that guests could flow quickly and easily. I cannot say enough about that. Our guests were taken care of from the time they entered the reception room while pictures were taken until the very end of the reception. There were mountains of food for our guests. We have received many calls and e-mails from our guests commenting on the culinary end of our wedding.\r \r I know that I have written a long review but a wedding is a once in a lifetime event. We plan and dream of what it will be. We pray for no disappoints and, of course, probably look really hard to find a problem-----but there were NONE! DO NOT GO AND LOOK AT ANOTHER EVENT CENTER UNTIL YOU MEET SHIRLEY AND COFIELD HILBURN! I truly believe that we had the best of the best--------plus the victorian house is gorgeous---that is an added treat!\r \r Thank you so much for reading my review---call them right now!\r \r Karen Wright \r Pros: Not enough space for all the pros! Top Notch in All Ways Cons: Absolutely NONE! Shirley & Cofield are the BEST! more

I couldn't have been any more pleased with the outcome of my wedding at the Crow's Nest. It is a beautiful location, that offers a solution if there is rain on your day.
