Its such a shame that the Verti Marte has burnt Down. the food here was absolutely amazing. and since i have grown up around the French quarter a little as a kid it was one of my Favorite places to eat whenever we came down for a Visit. i miss the Royal Feast. and the Green Giant. and OMG the Greek Salad. and who can forget Sam the Cook and Ricki... i miss everything about it. i did love working here. If this place ever can come back to life i will be the happiest boy in the world. more

My long time friend Sam Hatfield was awakened by a phone call at 3:30 am Saturday Morning to the earthshaking, but sobering news that, Verti Marte was destroyed by fire. Verti Marte was Sam’s long time family owned Take out Deli and Grocery at 1201 Royal St., popular among French Quarter residents and tourist alike. His contagious smile and personality impacts and warms the hearts and lives of many. Sam has a passion and determination to rebuild. Verti Marte has building and contents insurance, but even that has its limitations and is subject to adjustors and the waiting process. Sam is officially unemployed for 4 to 5 months with no income. I truly feel in an event such as this, that friends will pull together and show their support for Sam and his family, Julie, Bronson and Braida. HOLY BEJEEZUS! my boyfriend and I have dubbed Verti Marte as heaven. Everything there is more than reasonably priced for the portion size (HUGE!) and the chef is one of the nicest people we met here in NOLA. the "All that Jazz" is to die for, almost literally. I think i would drive from Dallas once or twice a month JUST for this sandwich. Although I have yet to visit the Quarter since Katrina, I did live there for a short while a few summers ago just 2 blocks from the Verti Marte. Let me be ther first to say that this small hole in the wall stop is the first place that I will ever visit wneh I travel to the Quarter again. The food, amazing. A great variety of spectacular taste for a reasonable price. And the staff, forget about it. If you become a frequent, they get to know you by name. Inexpensive, friendly, and convenient. The French Quarter's best kept secret. Had I not lived so close, I would have never known, but trust me, the Verti Marte is my FIRST stop the next time i am in New Orleans! more
