Best Cuban food in the state. 10/10/2007

I have been eating here for 15 years. I'm sure everthing on the menu is great, but the only thing I eat is the garlic chicken dinner. It is legendary. When I have out of town guest this one of the stops we have to make. more

Decent Cuban but Watch Your Bill 8/19/2007

I used to live half a block from Versailles and now I live two blocks. However, I only go there now when friends drag me. Although the food is decent and great price, I've had an awful experience as of late. I went with a group of 10 for a celebration. Even though we stayed there about another fifteen minutes or so after we paid the bill, THEY DID NOT COME BACK WITH THE CHANGE!!! We overtipped our already generous tip by over $30!!! We thought someone had taken it but after checking with everyone, it was confirmed that the waiter did not come back. Another time, a friend and I (just two of us) were seated at a four-person table (two 2-person tables connected). I guess they got busy so they just took the other table-- which would have been fine except they just took it. No ""excuse me"" or explanation. My handbag that as on the other table as well as the vase were just moved to our two-person table. Versailles has cheap eats but understand that when it gets busy, service just gets weird. Pros: Cheap Eats, Decent Food Cons: Service more

Not too impressed... 7/3/2007

We met our friends here for dinner last night (on their suggestion, but we had been wanting to try it). I must say...not too great. I don't eat red meat and that was a problem--so vegetarians be warned-there are maybe three options. I ended up getting a grilled chicken sandwhich, my boyfriend got the fish. Neither had very much flavor to it, and his was more bones than fish. The garlic and butter bread they served us first was better than the actual meal. The other people we were with seemed to enjoy their meals, so there must be some good things (I hear the garlic chicken is what they're know for). They also serve plantains with EVERYTHING, but they weren't very good, I don't like them too much anyway, but my boyfriend loves them and he didn't think these were too great. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive, but it took at least half an hour for our food, and they weren't that busy. One thing that bothered me especially is that they sprayed off the tables around us with Windex, and no one wants a thick amonia smell while they're eating. Pros: Good prices, friendly staff Cons: Parking, decor and set up, limited non-meat options more

Delicious... Great place for Brunch, Lunch, Dinner. Suggestions: The entire Menu. more

Good place, horrible parking 11/21/2006

I came here at the invitation of a coworker. I had never tried Cuban food before and found it to be very tasty. My chicken dish was good but it was a bit odd for me to see large slices of onion piled on top. Other than that, the atmosphere was warm and my meal was very good. I'd come back to try their other dishes. more

Best (only?) Cuban restaurant! 11/17/2006

the portions are HUGE. i've never finished an entire plate by myself. The servers are all super cool. I recommend going for lunch for a cheaper menu. Pros: great food, good portions, parking in front Cons: tight parking spaces, sometimes a little noisy if it's crowded more

Best Cuban Food 11/13/2006

Can you say garlic roasted chicken, that's what everyone here goes for...Garlic roasted chicken with lemon garlic butter sauce dripping all over it and fried bananas and onions on the side, oh my god, food coma! Sometimes I get a craving for this and I just have to go. I ask for extra garlic sauce on the side and also order the pork tamales. The pork tamales are soft and totally melt away in your mouth dripping with that garlic lemon butter sauce and fresh onions on top. I have a total method for eating this dish, first I pour the black beans over my rice, then I start cutting up that chicken and mix it with the rice, beans and banana and pur the garlic sauce over it, its pure heaven and I always take home leftovers. Word of advice though, chew some damn gum after you eat here, it is a lot of garlic. Oh yeah, the mango shake here is really good too. I won't eat cuban food anywhere else except Portos Bakery. Pros: Good value, fast service, excellent food Cons: No cons more

cheap eats 11/2/2006

every one orders the garlic chicken and for good reason. it is tasty and affordable and you get a HALF CHICKEN! plus, it comes with plantains and black beans. the plantains could be dry though. i personally prefer the pork chops in garlic sauce -- it is the same concept as the garlic chicken but pork chops (and no, you do not get half a pig). the fried pork cubes are also pretty good. i have had the squid and rice and that was also good. all in all, the service is fast and the food is tasty and affordable. if i want something quick and good, i'd go to versailles. Pros: anything garlic Cons: parking could be horrific more

yummy 11/1/2006

their food is so good! even the bread you get while waiting is super yummy...and a must are their sangria and mojitos!!! more

Cuba! 10/4/2006

Always a pleasure going to this place, i most prefer the location on venice in culver city. The food is always tasty and the prices are always affordable for authetic cuban cuisine! try the columbian steak if you feel like juicy bell pepper sauce, the roasted cuban pork is tender and well marinated, and a common favorite crowd pleaser is their classic yellow rice with chicken! Pros: Food, Price Cons: Parking lot often full more

greasy greasy cuban 8/10/2006

After hearing all the hype about Versailles, I decided to give it a try. My boyfriend and I split the carne asada and the famous garlic chicken. I definitely liked the garlic chicken better than the carne asada although I didn't think it was nearly as good as everyone claims. It was well cooked and tasty, but I didn't really care for the garlic sauce. Perhaps it's my personal taste, but it had so much lemon juice in it that it overpowered the meat. Also, the meat was not very tasty on its own but relied heavily on the greasy sauce for any taste. However, I did like the garlic bread which they give you to start and the plantains were decent, although I think one or two bites will do. It's so fried and soaked in grease that anymore would just be unappetizing! Each dish ran about $10, and for the price and for the amount of grease, I would much rather go get some Roscoe's. Overall, overhyped and just WAY too greasy. Pros: quick Cons: greasy greasy greasy, bad service more

Delicious Cuban food!!! 8/2/2006

Get the combo, which has the garlic roasted chicken and the pork. The rice and beans are also a must, all of this for about $10, which huge portions for 2 meals. They're bread is also very good, its so buttery. The ambiance is okay, service is great, but its all about the food here. Pros: Chicken, Pork, Rice more

...sangria 7/25/2006

Because it's refreshing during those hot Cali days.. this place is inconsistent but I continue to come back.. I always make the 20 mile drive out just to have their black beans and plantains. The sangria is a plus to the meal. The famous garlic chicken isn't really such a big deal..if anything, the sauce makes up for it. Personally, I love the boneless chicken breast; less work cause you don't have to deal with bones and it's leaner with the same sauce..it's sooo yummy. The service is so so..they're inconsistent once again, but I think that's why I keep coming back, hoping that it would get better. Pros: boneless chicken breast, platanos y sangria Cons: parking, gets hot inside in the afternoon and early evening.. more

Yum! 7/11/2006

Always a great expeirence here! Luv the food and luv the service! The plantains and Sangria are to die for! Pros: great food, great atmosphere, great service Cons: limited parking more

So-So Cuban 7/1/2006

The food here is so-so. Nothing great. The only thing I like is the roast pork or the #1. Other than that the garlic chicken still had a feather when I ordered it last time and the beans tasted like cigarrette ash. Not a whole lot to rave about. Oh the pineapple soda was good. The servers are not friendly at all. Pros: fast service Cons: so-so garlicky food more
