I don't actually owe anyone any money. The hospital made an error and tried to charge me $700 more than they should have. I contested the amount and the hospital corrected the error and sent me 2 updated bills. I paid the bills immediately, though they arrived 2 months apart. I have been receiving letters from Venture for the past 6 months trying to get me to pay these already paid amounts. I contacted them 6 months ago and after multiple phone calls and a call to the hospital, they confirmed that I owed nothing. This week I received another letter and upon calling them, the very rude representative says I owe money again (the same money as before). I informed them that I have no new medical bills and my HSA shows all payments made to the hospital cleared ages ago. She asked me to prove it. I contacted the hospital and the hospital confirmed I owe no money and that Venture is trying to collect on an amount that was paid seven months ago.\r

They were extremely rude. I understand that collection agencies may need to deal with people that make excuses. However, I made no excuses and was as professional as I would be in any endeavor. This did not matter to any of the three representatives I talked to this week as all were rude from the second they answered the phone. I tried to explain to one of them that the bill had been paid and gave the dates of payment and reference numbers from my HSA, and she either didn't understand or didn't care to try to understand. At the risk of sounding like an arrogant snot, I'm not in the financial position to not be able to pay my current debts and I have more than adequate funds in my HSA, 401k, checking, and savings accounts to meet my financial obligations, and would gladly take the tax penalty to withdraw funds early to avoid accumulating debt. As such, I would never have expected to deal with people in a debt collection agency, nor did I know they could be so disrespectful. Consider me educated.\r

As an added bonus, the President and Secretary of Venture Financial Services are actually employees of the hospital, St. Luke's. The President, Carol Meyer, is the VP of Financial Services and the Secretary, Charles Cobb, is the Chief Financial Officer for the hospital. The plot thickens...\r

I expect to receive another bill in the next month or two as I assume all employees who work on the ""front line"" at Venture are incompetent. If this occurs I fully intend to take action to escalate the situation. In 2013 the CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) expanded their regulatory umbrella to include debt collection practices. I will report Venture to the CFPB and hope that all people with similar experiences would do the same. \r
