Venita Rhea's Owners Arrested In Vote-Buying Scandal 11/6/2010

Voted best breakfast folks, really? Best? You're telling me that's the best breakfast in town? The BEST? Where on earth have you people been eating? Unfortunately Venita Rhea's promises to be the best breakfast in Rocklin, a claim which they cannot uphold. The menu is amazing.... to read, but is sadly poorly executed. Combine that with incompetent service and you have one bummer of a breakfast. Allow me to clarify: We waited about 20 minutes for our table which is not too long for us, but we certainly worked up an appetite during that time. (Thank goodness for the huge clock on the far wall, guaranteeing an accurate re-telling of our visit). After 5 minutes 'Steph' came to get a drink order from us, during which time we indicated we were ready to order. She ignored this, fetched beverages and we watched while her section cleared out. We became Steph's sole table. After 10 minutes of time to look through the entire menu, front, back and again, she returned to take our order. When asked about the 'spicy-ness' of a particular menu item, she seemed a little confused but indicated that it was ""not very spicy."" Apparently she's never had the item and her answer couldn't be further from the truth. After sitting in her section for 33 minutes (which by now was slowly filling up again) Steph brought out our food. I was so glad. Since she hadn't been around at all since taking our order, I was finally given an opportunity to ask for a second cup of coffee. The Linda Kay sounds like an amazing menu item on paper, but the execution is poor. It consists of snow crab, bay shrimp, asparagus, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce atop a whole wheat english muffin. I opted for 'home fries' as my side item. This twist on eggs benedict was dry and lukewarm, two things most people aren't looking for in a breakfast. Those 'homefries', yuck! They had the appearance of over-boiled potatoes but the flavor of underdone ones. And no seasoning. Horrible! By this point the family was too hungry from waiting around and choked most of the food down. Two diners had to exchange plates since the 'not too spicy' dish was giving one of them the hiccups. 12 minutes later we had finished, stacked silverware on plates and cleaned ourselves up. 15 minutes after that we were told our server would go get our check. Thanks. So considerate! We've only been sitting in your section for over an hour. We'd LOOOOOVE the check. The check was also a disappointment. I'd have no problem paying those prices if the food came even close to what it promised to be. Over-priced and underdone. Listen, if you're not at the top of your game on a Saturday morning (aka Go-Time) then look for a job elsewhere or close your business on weekends. Period. more

Disappointed in their Eggs Benedict 4/30/2009

As an eggs benedict lover, I was disappointed in Venita Rhea's version which they call the ""Bobby Earl"". I was even more disappointed because I had heard many good things about this restaurant, which were true (good service, friendly staff, nice atmosphere). The only things ""right"" about the eggs benedict were that the eggs were properly poached and the dish was served warm. The hollandaise sauce was watery and bland, the canadian bacon was tough and the country potatoes were burnt...not slightly burnt, but inedible charcoal-briquet-like burnt. One star for the service and one star for the freshly squeezed orange juice. Pros: Good service, friendly staff, nice atmosphere Cons: Eggs Benedict... more

Wonderful Breakfast! 8/5/2007

We had breakfast here 8/6/07, it was amazing. The wait was about 30 mins, but for a Sunday brunch time it was expected. The menu had so many choices. When our food arrived it was amazing. I couldn't even describe the amount of food you get, it was wonderful. Fresh squeezed OJ and homemade jam. The staff was great. I would have loved it more if we could have eaten outside because the morning was so nice, however I will go again and again, and it recommend it to all those I love. Just a few notes: Take an EMPTY stomach because you will walk away more than satisfied.TRY IT, YOU WILL LOVE IT. A Real Diamond!!! Pros: Food, Food, Food Cons: Wait more

Best Breakfast by far 5/25/2007

I love this place. I have been going there for years. Breakfast and lunch can't be beat. I only have one complaint, the coffee taste terrible. Very bitter and I love a good cup of coffee with breakfast and when I eat thereI have to drink tea. That is my only negative thing to say. Otherwise I highly reccommend this place to everyone. Pros: great ambience, parking is easy, good service, great food Cons: bad, bad, coffee more

quaint, fun place 4/10/2006

For no-nonsense break and american-cafe food, this is the place to go! The gigantic, tasty portion sizes at low prices makes Venitas Rhea an automatic must-go. They serve great traditional breakfasts - eggs, ham, hash brown, omlettes - and they serve great cafe dining lunches like tri-tip, chicken-fried steak, and giant hamburgers. What really makes the trip worthwhile is the large mural in their ""French""-style decor. Look closely and you'll see some interesting characters. Also, their service is very good. The serves are attentive to your needs and very friendly. Pros: cheap, large portions, service Cons: long sunday waits more

They have fabulous chefs and have picked up many unique entrees through their continuing education at culinary ""expos"". A MUST - ESPECIALLY FOR BREAKFAST!
