Vengurlekar, Sham, Md - Premier Pain Institute

I cannot comment on this Dr's ability to relieve pain and from my research, he has good success with his patients. However, I will not be returning for treatment to see Dr. V. I have suffered lower back pain with shooting pain for almost 10 years (I am in my mid 20's). I got an MRI and it came back negative. Dr. V immediately recommended root sleve injections. Not being super comfortable with having a surgical procedure done on my back, I asked some follow up questions to the gentleman who was going over some of the paper work and liability forms. It was apparent he was new/inexperianced/not trained or all of the above. I decided that I wanted to get a second opinion to have some of my concerns cleared up. I have an appointment set up in a few weeks but asked Dr. V to provide pain meds in the mean time as I was in excruciating pain and I am going out of town. They refused to fill the perscription unless I came in for a follow up. I explained that I was getting a second opinion and was going out of town. They said unless I came in, they would not fill the perscription. Its apparent that Dr. V and his staff are more concerned about collecting their co pay and $500 from my insurance then they are ensuring their patients are taken care of. more

\r Last year my daughter had a shoulder surgery that turned into necrotizing fasciiitis. During the 8 months in the hospital and the 18 or so surgeries she had to save her life, arm and shoulder she ended up with RSD. A life time of nerve pain. She was only 22 at the time. We went to numerous so called pain specialist trying to find someone to help her. The general comment was ""she is in too much pain. There is nothing I can do for her"". It was very disappointing that those Doctor's were even allowed to call themselves pain doctors. Then we found Dr. Vengurlekar. Life changed right away. He got her out of a wheel chair, got her up and functioning and reduced her pain. This man is the only Doctor who took the time and seem to even care to try and help her. Without him, I honestly can not say what would have happened to her. To any one who is thinking about a pain specialist..... We highly recommend Dr. Vengurlekar. more

“I began to have severe back pain two years ago following a minor sport injury. I went through eight different physicians including an orthopedic surgeon, a neurologist and a physical medicine rehab specialist. I underwent multiple types of testing, including x-rays, MRIs and electrical testing, of my back and leg muscles. I was also put through several months of physical therapy. Despite religiously pursuing and following through with all the instructions and the multiple medications, my back pain progressed to the point, that I lost my job, and day to day living became very difficult. I am so grateful to Dr. Vengurlekar and the wonderful folks at Premier Pain Clinic. I have had debilitating pain for years, and have seen all kinds of doctors from chiropractors to orthopedic surgeons to holistic practitioners. None of them could do anything for me. It got so bad all I could do was lie on the floor sometimes. Excruciating back and neck pain that nearly destroyed my life. I could barely work and was out on medical leave indefinitely until I almost lost my job. Dr. Vengurlekar figured out exactly what I needed and after a few minimally invasive injections I am able to get around virtually pain free. I would never go to anyone else after this. I beg to differ with the previous patient who attacked Dr. Vengurlekar. He or she sounds like someone who was doctor-shopping for a Dr. who would give them excessive painkillers, something that has become a bit of a problem for doctors specializing in pain. If they don't prescribe the dangerous level of drugs demanded by these patients, the patients try to punish them by smearing their reputations online. I saw Dr. Vengurlekar for pain I suffered after a severe car accident, and he was always very kind, behaved very appropriately, and gave me the correct amount of painkillers for the pain I was undergoing - not too much, not too less. He didn't require me to come in to see him every 10 days, either. He is responsible and genuinely cared about my well-being. I am now 100% free of my pain and have recommended him to everyone I know who suffers from pain. He is a wonderful alternative to surgery. There are many other patients who have had similar experiences to mine who have posted their reviews on Dr. Vengurlekar's website, I suggest anyone considering this doctor read their reviews too before giving this disgruntled pain-medication seeker's review any credibility. more

I have been working for Dr. Vengurlekar for over 6 months now. I can not begin to describe the amazing things I've witnessed so far. My job is so rewarding in the sense I get to see people who are in very serious pain, progress into individuals who are happy to enjoy life again to the fullest. I love when patients come back smiling and feeling much better after their procedures. That truly makes my day! I'm often told about activities pain has kept them from enjoying. Hearing all about how they have been able to resume those hobbies once again now that they are pain-free, really makes me proud to work for this doctor. He has a very ethical practice and always see's each and every patient in person. I would recommend any of my friends or family dealing with any type of pain to him- without a doubt! more

I have worked with Dr. Vengurlekar and his patients for the past several months and have witnessed patients receiving only the very best of care and treatment. All of his patients receive a thorough and professional exam, not the ""assembly-line"" approach that a few of the other pain practices in the area offer. He is very conservative in his approach and only offers the proper and most effective treatment based on his patient's needs. I have personally witnessed many of his patients who went to him in pain become pain-free and functional after receiving treatment by him. His surgical facility is equipped with the latest in technology and he staffs his office with Registered Nurses who are qualified to assist with the procedures he performs. Last, most of his patients come to him from other patients' referrals, which says a lot about the favorable outcomes his patients receive. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to a friend or family member and would seek his expertise personally should I ever need an interventional pain physician. more

I went to Dr. V. at the Premier Pain Institute and observed him being incredibly rude to his female staff. For some reason, his nurse must accompany into the examining room for every patient (this to me is a red flag). On my first visit, he told his nurse to “get me water” in a very demeaning way and in front of me – a new patient. \r \r The doctor is also arrogant and has an air about him that is one of entitlement. He wants patients to follow up with an office visit every 10 days which is excessive. I only went a few times and would not bother going back again.
