The apt is okay but don't trust the office manager 7/1/2011

When i visited the apt for the first time, i met a resident who said she lives in a single room apt. Then when i entered the office, the OM (office manager) said they only have two or three bedroom in the entire apt complex, and they didn't built any single bed apt. I didn't like the fact that she was lying but i needed a place, so i decided to rent the WOODEN floored two bedroom apt. (and that was what the OM promised me; wooden floor and the apt will be cleaned when i move in)\r \r Then when i moved in, the place was CARPETED and they DIDN'T CLEAN A THING for my apt! The carpet was dirty, the kitchen floor was sticky, nasty stuffs under the sink, dust+wood chip EVERYWHERE, balcony door doesn't close, and even had USED MOUSE TRAPER in the corner of the room...and there were much more that i can complain about..\r \r So i told the OM the next day and she didn't said a single 'sorry'. She offered me the other empty apt with same price, same space, but different unit. I checked the place out, and it was mostly clean..and wooden floored. \r \r Now, when i first visited the office, the OM told me the dirty one (the one i moved in) was the only one that was available during my move-in dates. But how come there was another clean apt, where the maintenance guy CLEARLY said they had WEEKS to clean the apt?\r The OM said the university students lived there, and she didn't know that the students transferred the college and were about to move out (from the clean apt.)when i asked her why.\r was she serious? The students have to decide whether they would continue studying in Bing. before fall semester, The students clearly had to notifiy the OM whether to live longer at least A MONTH before they would move out. (to get their deposit)\r not to mention the maintenance def. said he had weeks to clean\r \r Then when i was in the middle of complaining, the OM was 'i have pick up my husband so i have to go'\r ...\r ok, i understand she values her husband (who she stressed out 'he is 94 yrs old'), but she and her husband at least have nice place to rest and sleep...while i had to sleep with dust on the carpeted floor in the filty apt...\r \r I had stuffs that were very very heavy, and i barely moved my stuffs up to the third floor with a help of my friend. So when i asked the OM whether she or the maintenance guy could help (if i decide to move to the cleaner apt.), they said 'no'\r \r Since i have to change my address and move everything again, i decided to stay in the filthy apt and the maintenace guy said he + the cleaning lady will come after 4 days to get the carpet off and clean the house.\r \r during that 4 days, i couldn't sleep on the bed and eat right because the maintenance guy said he needs everything boxed up in order the clean the house..so there was no point of me settling my stuffs down. \r \r With this huge dissatisfaction, i asked the OM if she could reduce at least 1/4 of my first rent because i couldn't LIVE right for a week (with cleaning, dirty apt). Then the OM said i still have to pay my rent full price (which was $850). And MAYBE $50 off for the first rent because of this inconvenience. \r If anyone was in my position, he/she DEFINITELY would have said at least $150~200 off the rent.\r \r I kept my promise with moving in on the day i was suppose to move in. But the OM apparently wasn't very enthusiatic about keeping HER promise.\r \r There are much much more i could write about, but i'll stop. And this is my first time EVER to write such negative things about someone or something. \r My advise: think carefully when you buy this apt. And trust me, the OM will sound nice, act nice, and look nice. But she will lie to get you into the apt for your money. more

15 years and loving it 9/16/2008

I've lived at Valley View Apartments, now known as Anthos of Vestal, for almost 15 years and love it. The apartments are very well maintained, centrally located to everything, the management is very easy to talk to and very understanding. The maintenance crew are on top of all maintenance issues in a very timely fashion. I feel safe and secure in my apartment and my surroundings (at my age this is very comforting). My apt has beautiful hard wood floors, the rooms are very spacious. This past year the company installed front loader washers and dryers and recently they put in new replacement windows in all the apartments. What a beautiful place to live. I plan on another 15 years here. I highly recommend Anthos of Vestel. Pros: Lots of parking, lots of wildlife, feels like country living more

Nice Apartments If You Can Stand the Noise 12/6/2007

I live in the VVA while finishing up my degree at Binghamton University. The complex does have a lot going for it--it's convenient to a lot of things, close to school, spacious (the closets are great) and my apt. has hard wood floors and a nice view with the occasional deer under my window. The rent is not bad at all.\r \r However, the noise insulation is terrible. It is not so bad with shared walls, but the sound from above is ridiculous. I happen to have a child that lives above me that NEVER walks anywhere but instead has to run all over my ceiling and likes to throw things ALL DAY. The noise is so loud that I often have to end phone conversations in my apt because the person on the other end finds it too annoying. Forget being able to work in the apt if you are a student or like to work at home. There is not much you can do yourself to insulate your ceiling. So make sure you know who your neighbors are above you before you move in. Don't just ask management.\r \r Management is okay--the office manager is very nice, but I have had problems communicating with the property manager. Three times my concerns were dismissed, and they can be uncommunicative. Like this morning is the 3rd day in a row I don't have hot water and no one has returned my 2 phone calls from yesterday trying to find out what is going on.\r \r It's an okay place to live if you can handle these aggravations. Pros: Always a parking spot, convenient location, safe, can have pets, hard wood floors Cons: Noise insulation, management not always helpful or understanding more
