Vacaville Ballet Theatre Co

I'm going to tell you the same thing I told Yelp: I stayed at the Vacaville Ballet for nearly 10 years. I grew up there, I learned to love dance there. Guest teachers Ikolo Griffin and Alan Schofield specifically made me feel worthy and well-trained as a dancer. \r \r HOWEVER. During my stay at Vacaville Ballet, there is most certainly a culture of abuse that exists. There is some, I don't know, threshold of approval, that must be met when you become a teenager there. There is a catty clique of main dancers, and while I was there, if you weren't a part of it you were ignored. If someone made fun of me I did not feel safe going to the teacher for help. \r \r The worst case scenario was when a guest teacher, El, from UC Irvine called me and my friend fat--and the whole class laughed to our faces, right then and there. Miss Lumaye needs to work on her favoritism qualities. It's sad watching girls trying so hard for her to like her & she just doesn't. Also, question her credentials & training. some are... over exaggerated you can say. i remember watching her perform, & it was not how I imagined a director to perform, either. Cassie is the nicest, I can say she's a better dancer, teacher, has the best personality (no favoritism), and you can tell she loves dance. \r The reason people stay here so long is because it comes off as the best ballet company in vacaville & I'm pretty sure its the ONLY one in the area. \r I've known so many girls who have left because of the favoritism. I've seen so many tears. Heidi has cast girls who she KNOWS shouldn't have solos or major parts, but because of their parents ($) or because they have mastered the suck up ability have been casted. She should at least give girls extra help if they need it, instead she pays them no attention. OH excuse me, she does pay them atten more

My daughter has been attending this studio since she was three years old. She is now thirteen and her passion for dance has continued to grow as a result of continued encouragement from her instructor. The instructor takes her profession seriously and requires the girls to do the same. The studio also has a dance company in which the girls have a chance to perform at least twice a year. I highly recommend this studio to anyone. more
