Good: Food quality was good but not enough to justify the high prices.. Bad: Drafty and noisy from the open pavillion..

Top 15 USA Restaurant 6/22/2007

I have traveled globally throughout the past 30 plus years. When it comes to quality and service, I am not generous in giving complements. This restaurant is easily one of the top 15 restaurants in the entire United States. The service is outstanding and leaves nothing undone, it is not rushed but is timely. Nightly menus are of the finest selection and quality. The owners are meticulous. The only drawbacks are that some of the clientele are at times underdressed and boisterous, but this is more the fault of the Omaha clientele or the tourist travelers drawn to the Omaha Old Market than that of the restaurant, and, secondly, diners should be allowed a bit more time if they flash some green for that. Prices, although not important to me, are quite reasonable. Cousin Eustice Pros: Service, selection, quality, usually no children present. Cons: Omaha clientele. more

Most romantic place to eat in Omaha 6/20/2006

This spot has it all-----great staff, great food, best wine list in Omaha!!! My favorite part about V. Mertz's has to be the actual space, it's soooo romantic and quiet. No fumbling kitchen staff or overly dramatic maitr'de. Highly unusual restaurant, I couldn't find a flaw. more

A wonderful experience - special occasion place 3/8/2005

This is a great spot - a romatic atmosphere, dim lighting, incredible service. I have a couple of wonderful memories of this place. If you are going to shell out some cash for a date/dinner, it might as well be memorable. The brick, wine bottles, candles and dim lighting make the atmostphere especially perfect. And the food is particularly good - it is creative, but you can satisy just about anyone (the traditional to the exotic diner). Go celebrate an anniversary there. Surprise her/him with your splurge, and make it special. Pros: food, atmosphere, service Cons: price - but worth it! more

The Best in NE 5/24/2002

Although I now live in Phoenix, I do have to say that I miss this restaurant very much. I used to travel 55 miles from Lincoln, NE just to eat at V Mertz. Located in a very interesting location in downtown Omaha, this dimly lit, quiet and romantic restaurant features an excellent wine list and food that is ""to die for"". And being in the restaurant business myself (in a 4-star restaurant), I can tell you that I know what I'm talking about. I honestly still dream about the Brandy Peppercorn Steak! more
