My husband and I have always taken our pets to VCA. We were introduced to VCA in California and we have always taken our cats and dogs there and have had a wonderful experience up until transfering care to a VCA in Pittsburgh, PA. We took our 8 month old Corgi to VCA Duncan Manor to be spayed and was shocked to be quoted over $550 for the spay. In all my years of having pets, I have never been charged so much for a routine spay (NOT including her routine vaccines that we paid over $100 for a few months prior to her spay) When we brought her home the day of her surgery, I was horrified to see had an incision over 8 inches long closed and poorly closed with over 20 staples. On top of being shocked with the size of the incision, most of them were already falling out!!!! Within the first 12 hours of having her home, with a collar on to keep her from chewing on them, we had 3 staples fall out leaving over an inch and a half without proper closure. The other staples that had not fallen out, were barely in her skin or only in one side of the incision. We called the following morning wanting to speak to the vet and she took over 5 hours to return our call. After speaking with her, she said we "could" bring her in and they could replace the staples. Talk about tramatic for our poor dog!!!! We have decided that we will not be returning to VCA Duncan Manor and I will be writing to them and including pictures of their horrible, botched staple job.
