I brought in my puppy here and I can tell that he is so happy with the grooming service he received. I am happy as well and would consider being a repeat customer. more

They were my sunshine after the storm!! 1/5/2008

I recently moved to Kansas and went thru a nightmare experience with my calico. My new boss' sister was a vet from another state who offered to declaw my cat while she was in town for a visit. Without knowing many people in the area and not yet having established care with a regular vet, I made the mistake of trusting her. Talk about the worst mistake of my life! She performed the surgery and left town without giving me any pain medications, antibiotics or recovery instructions. When my cat was not healing, I decided to take her to Cherokee Cat Clinic for a check-up. I was devastated to learn that the first surgery was badly botched. The doctors at Cherokee were a God-send. They performed a reparative surgery to correct the previous mistakes. During the healing process they worked with me on a plan for recovery and were very involved--letting me bring in my little trooper for weekly check-ups and doing additional surgery to stretch out the damaged areas, all for free. The doctors themselves called my home following each procedure to ask about my cat's progress, and they always made me feel like they have all the time I need to ask questions and get things explained. They were sympathetic and supportive, as I grieved over the undue suffering my cat had experienced and the guilt of having placed her in less than competent hands. The staff copied documents and provided me the information I needed to report the first vet. My experience at Cherokee Cat clinic really was the sunshine after the storm. Pros: caring staff, quality service, up-to-date technology Cons: high traffic area more

You won't find a better place to take your pet! 1/5/2008

I have taken my pets over the years to vets in many different states. I have never encountered a more professional, caring, go-the-extra-mile practice in my life. Dr. Starr and the other doctors at the Cherokee Cat Clinic provided excellent emergency care to my cat. After the initial surgery, my cat required multiple follow-up visits (as well as another surgical procedure)--all at no additional cost to me. They place a high value on communication--giving me all the doctors' home numbers in case something came up after hours as well as calling me consistently to check up on my cat's progress. When they determined that my cat would benefit from some weight loss and bone-enhancing supplements, they worked out a feeding program with me; they even gave me my first bag of new food and box of supplements free and encouraged me to bring in my little friend for free weighings. The support staff and techs are genuine animal lovers who very much provide great customer service as well as practical care. I say again, in all my years of owning and loving pets (dogs and cats), I have never encountered a practice that has made me feel as valued and supported as the folks at Cherokee Cat Clinic. As I prepare to relocate to another part of the country, they have gone out of their way to help me transition the care of my high-need cat to a reputable vet in my new area. I feel so strongly about how good they are that I spent most of my free Saturday morning searching for ways on the internet to communicate what extraordinary care they provided my cat--and, in turn, my whole family. Pros: Very professional and caring, they are accessible and involved--going well beyond expectations Cons: Not cheap, though they are very generous with products and samples more

  • Thank you for choosing VCA Cherokee Animal Hospital! We have cared for pets in the Overland Park area since 1964. Our veterinary hospital has gone through many transformations in the last four decades, but our commitment to providing the best veterinary medicine and compassionate care for pets has never changed. Cherokee Animal Clinic started out as a 1,200-square-foot building in 1964. Dr. William Murray founded the practice, and he was joined by Dr. Richard Branson in 1970. Dr. Branson took over ownership of the clinic in 1984 and cared for pets here until 2005, when Dr. James Kontras and Dr. Mike Stenstrom took over the hospital. In March of 2017 we were proud to join the VCA Animal Hospitals family! Our large, state-of-the-art veterinary hospital features five exam rooms, an American Animal Hospital Association-approved surgical suite, a hospital ward, an intensive care unit, two pharmacies, two waiting rooms, two reception areas and a full-service boarding kennel for dogs with a separate area for cats. We also offer a small garden settee for those times when a peaceful place is needed to discuss your pet's health or if a client needs to just "stop and smell the flowers." It is our goal to offer high-quality veterinary medicine that combines modern technology with old-fashioned comfort for your pet.
