Words can not express how wonderful this place is. Let me just begin by saying that I have gone to Cherokee with my childhood animals and they were wonderful back then. I can remember my cocker spaniel dying of old age. As it was the weekend we took it to the Pet Hospital to put him done. That following Monday, Cherokee called my family to tell us how sorry we were for our loss. Now, as an adult I am responsible for my own pet and there is no other place I would rather be. My dog is diabetic and right after I bought my first place, my dog began to get sick so I rushed him to Cherokee. They took such good care of him and were able to figure it quickly. They put him on a different med and he is doing so much better. The Vet was concerned with how he was feeling that he would call me the weeks to follow to check up. They are truly wonderful people and provide a great service. more

Owner Message
  • Thank you for choosing VCA Cherokee Animal Hospital! We have cared for pets in the Overland Park area since 1964. Our veterinary hospital has gone through many transformations in the last four decades, but our commitment to providing the best veterinary medicine and compassionate care for pets has never changed. Cherokee Animal Clinic started out as a 1,200-square-foot building in 1964. Dr. William Murray founded the practice, and he was joined by Dr. Richard Branson in 1970. Dr. Branson took over ownership of the clinic in 1984 and cared for pets here until 2005, when Dr. James Kontras and Dr. Mike Stenstrom took over the hospital. In March of 2017 we were proud to join the VCA Animal Hospitals family! Our large, state-of-the-art veterinary hospital features five exam rooms, an American Animal Hospital Association-approved surgical suite, a hospital ward, an intensive care unit, two pharmacies, two waiting rooms, two reception areas and a full-service boarding kennel for dogs with a separate area for cats. We also offer a small garden settee for those times when a peaceful place is needed to discuss your pet's health or if a client needs to just "stop and smell the flowers." It is our goal to offer high-quality veterinary medicine that combines modern technology with old-fashioned comfort for your pet.
