Best

My 7 year old Doberman is my baby so I freaked out when she was fine one minute and unable to walk the next. Our vet diagnosed Wobblers and referred us to this hospital for surger...

Worst

This is by far the worst vet in town!!! Dr. Mcgrath is the worst, unprofessional, rude and a liar. I went there to treat my cat and was lied to the whole time, and the bill kept...

BUTCHER SHOP 4/1/2011

This is the WORST, most UNCOMPASSIONATE facility to take your pet. more

What a wonderful place to take my pets when there is an emergency! 1/21/2011

I cannot expressed how incredible the staff are at Veterinary Specialists of the Valley! The all treated me and my little Chuey with such compassion. They went over estimates with me so that I understood what everything would cost. I expressed my limited funds and they adjusted the estimate so that I could give Chuey the best care within my budget. When I picked up my Chuey the staff told me how sweet he was. I can't imagine a more wonderful place to take my pets when there is an emergency! more

Don't Do It! 12/20/2010

This place elevates incompetence to a new level. If you truly love your pet, take it to another place, any other place, for competent care. We took our cat, who was sent home from VSV unable to walk, to Westlake Village Animal Hospital, where they did an x-ray, which VSV failed to do after being told we were sure he had fallen onto a hard floor, and more thorough blood testing. WVAH found an elevated white-cell count (infection) which VSV testing failed to uncover and inflammation of the spine and put him on IV steroids and antibiotics immediately. In 24 hours he was able to stand, in 48 hours he was walking and able to come home for further care. Enough said. more

WORST VET CLINIC ON THE PLANET! 12/18/2010

I wouldn't send my worst enemy here! That's how bad this place really is! It all boils down to MONEY, MONEY, MONEY! Don't even think about complaining to management when you encounter a problem...I did, and was treated like dirt! My pet was not cared for or diagnosed properly and is now deceased because of this \r ----hole! How can they even stay in business is beyond me...I feel horrible for the next person's pet they misdiagnose or kill. I've never encountered such arrogant front staff, incompetent vets, or such cold management in my life! My anger wouldn't be so major if management would have addressed my serious issues with a compassionate heart and listening ear. If you tell anyone here you're the least bit disatisfied with something it will fall on deaf ears... end of story! My pet is now deceased and I'm not only outraged but extremely heartbroken! Please learn from my experience and do not bring your cherished pet here! more

Sean Yoshimoto is a GREAT VET! 11/28/2010

2 1/2 years ago we turned to West VCA b/c we our old vet (larchmont) could not do the necessary tests she needed. So glad we did! our 15 year old doggie was seen by Sean Yoshimoto. Of all of the vets I've seen over the years, Sean was by far the one of a kind. He listened. He worked with us and our budget and gave us all the options. He treated our beloved dog for 2 1/2 years..we even took our dog back to him when we had moved to the desert. If I move back to LA he would be our vet for life! The great thing about that particular facility is that they can diagnose and run tests your pets may need. Our other vet (larchmont) could not do this b/c they didnt have the necessary equipment.. yet they charged pretty much the same amount. more

Miss Shawna 6/7/2010

Thank you VCA staff for taking care of my little Yorkie!! Dr. McGrath was able to get my usually unfriendly dog to warm up to him. Thank you for fixing his ears! I will recommend VCA and Dr. McGrath to all pet owners I know! more

Friendly staff! They'll treat your little ones like their own 6/7/2010

I usually take my little one to a local vet clinic but my work schedule makes it difficult to get there during their business hours. I decided to take him to the VCA on Sepulveda since it is a 24 hour care facility. Yes, it's a little pricey, but I would rather have his primary care there just in case something emergent were to happen to him. Setting an appointment was easy and my little one was seen by Dr. McGrath. As I was waiting to be called (which didn't take long at all) I saw an A-list celebrity there to leave a thank you gift for Dr. McGrath! I was excited to know that my little one would be seen by him too! My little one tends to be unfriendly and Dr. McGrath was so patient and won his trust! That alone made me so ecstatic to find out my dog is capable of being nice around strangers. Dr. McGrath knows how to handle animals and you can just see a genuine care for animals given by the entire staff! I wish I could name everyone we encountered but a thanks to the entire staff for their patience, care and professionalism. Pros: Friendly staff, celebrity sighting Cons: Fees - put they're worth it! more

Best Care for Pets and Caregivers 5/27/2010

Take your pet directly to VCA WLA at the first signs of trouble. My beloved Radar got to Dave Bruyette and VCA WLA too late - had I taken him in at the first signs something was wrong (over-appetite and going outside box) we would have had a much better shot at beating Radar's IBD. Instead I waited a week or two too long, went to Value Vet after having dumped Westside Hospital for Cats and VCA Wilshire, and then went to Dave for ultrasound and a consult. Worked with him for a few weeks trying to get Radar to respond to the protocol which was totally correct and had no needless procedures or extraordinary measures, drugs or costs, in fact, I needed to push for more aggressive care. It was very easy to communicate by e-mail. Ten years ago, VCA West LA helped me manage my FeLV cat Chloe for happy years more than she would have had. Sadly, Radar passed away today, in my arms, with the compassionate care of VCA WLA. The front of the office and the pharmacy can be chaotic, and you need to ch more

Dr Chang and Dr Tsugawa are the best! 5/18/2010

I had to take my dogs to see Dr. Tsugawa (veterinary cardiologist) and Dr. Chang (veterinary ophthalmologist) on different occasions at VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital. Pros: accomplished, professional, caring, compassionate Cons: in general..not a fan of VCA ...but make an exception here more

Great Vets! Great Experience! 4/19/2010

VCA West LA is OPEN ON SUNDAYS. If you call in advance and make an appointment, you avoid paying an extra $141 for an emergency call. There is an online coupon for your first visit as well!\r After reading all the reviews on here I couldn't help but counteract the negative ones! I came in yesterday with my sick cat, didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes (this is on Sunday) and got right in to see Dr. Howe. \r Dr. Howe seemed to communicate with my cat, examined him, and then and came and discussed the plan of action. I had x amount with me, and we were able to come up with a treatment plan that was going to help my cat the most and fall within my budget. This conversation happened before anything commenced which was great. \r The vet techs were all friendly and nice.\r I highly recommend VCAWLA and am going to keep it as my emergency and weekend clinic when I can't get at my normal vet. Kudos! more

Bring your Amex Black Card. They will soak you. 3/6/2010

Money money money. That's all they talked about. More time spent on the bill than figuring out my dogs medical problem. No Thanks. Heard a nurse mention that I drive a nice car before estimate given to me. :( more

I have never commented on a review of my service before. I do not typically make comments on these sites. FANTASTIC DOCTORS, COMPASSIONATE STAFF 6/23/2009

1. Doctors and staff: A+. Compassionate staff and doctors are conscientious, professional, highly skilled ? this is a teaching hospital --the UCLA (or maybe LA County Hospital) of vet hospitals. My golden retriever needed major emergency surgery --he had inhaled a foxtail which formed an abscess between his lungs that attached to the lining of his heart. He was in pain, had fluid in his lungs -- the abscess had to be removed. Dr. Tina Owen performed the surgery -- she is a Diplomate, Board Certified DVM --I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon anywhere -- she was skilled, professional, compassionate, an A+. Dr. Owen's assistant, Tina Martinez is also an A+ --she was extremely knowledgeable, professional and warm. Dr. Cabrerra -also excellent -- - professional and compassionate ? she provided some of the post-op care. Further, the front office staff was always extremely courteous, as were the surgery techs that were taking care of the hospitalized animals. Pros: Highly trained DVMs, compassionate staff Cons: old, run down facility for hospitalized animals more

FANTASTIC DOCTORS, NOT SO GREAT FACILITY 6/21/2009

1. Doctors and staff: First, let me say that the doctors and staff are excellent -- well trained, professional. My golden retriever needed major emergency surgery -- he had inhaled a fox tail which had formed an abscess between his lungs that attached to the lining of his heart (pericardium). He was in pain, had fluid in his lungs and the abscess had to be removed. Dr. Tina Owen performed the surgery -- she is a Diplomate, Board Certified DVM --I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon anywhere -- she was skilled, professional, compassionate. Dr. Owen's assistant, Tina Martinez was also fantastic -- extremely knowledgeable, professional, caring and warm. Dr. Cabrerra was also very wonderful - - professional and compassionate - she delivered some of the post-op care --no complaints at all about her. The front office staff was always extremely courteous, as were the surgery techs that were taking care of the hospitalized animals. The staff was extremely compassionate with m more

Great Hospital! 4/3/2009

I take both my cats and dogs here, they are friendly and helpful and it's kept very clean! They also have late hours which is great for emergencies and after work visits. For anyone needing a good vet I highly recommend Dr Romanyano, she is awesome! One time my dad was visiting and he accompanied me on a vet visit for my kitty and even he said how great Dr Romanyano was.The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because their prices are a bit on the high side, but the service has always been fantastic. more

The very best animal hospital 3/13/2009

We originally took our dog there after he was hit by a car. They were the only ER open 24 hours in our area. The doctors were very professional and kind. We were given several options from euthanasia to an orthopedic surgeon. We took the surgeon. $6000 later we had a happy healthy dog. It was worth every penny. They even let us pay when we could. Years later I started taking my 2 diabetic cats. They were very compassionate when I had to have them put to sleep. I have 1 cat now, and I'll only take her to VCA West L.A.. more

No post-operative support and over priced for the "non service" they give 1/21/2009

We took our dog here for a $2,000 invasive surgery that required 2 weeks of recovery and which our regular vet didn't normally perform. When our regular vet went to take the stitches out he noticed a missing spot that appears not to have been sutured. For two weeks our dog had an open wound that could have a festering infection in it. Our own vet is having to correct the problem at out expense. We called the VCA 4 different times after surgery - once for the severe discomfort our dog was in and 3 times for the suture issue - and our calls were returned only when we started yelling on the vet's voicemail about our desperation to speak with her (vet is Dr. Owens at VCA). When she finally called back she said she had done nothing wrong and offered no assistance in correcting this problem. This place is a rip off - they were several hundred dollars more than other vets and then left us hanging when we needed them most. I will admit the staff is very nice - but those people aren't the ones more

VCA WLA has Caring and Professional Doctors and Staff 1/5/2009

After searching for a good vet for my dog, I was fortunate enough to find the VCA W. Los Angeles Animal Hospital. They're accredited, the facility is always clean and fresh smelling, and the staff is very professional and caring. Dr. Ramagnano is in fact, better than any doctor I've had. She actually sat on the floor next to Hobbes, and let Hobbes get used to her before she performed Hobbes' first exam. Her level of interaction and patience in answering all the questions I had, has given me confidence in knowing Hobbes is in good hands. I highly recommend this facility and Dr. Ramagnano to anyone that wants the best for their pet. more

They misdiagnosed my cat!!! 7/17/2008

I'm not from LA but I'm from Seattle, Washington. We took a trip down to LA with our cat and when we got to LA he wasn't doing too well. He was shaking and wasn't urinating for some time. It was 1:00am so we rushed him to VCA West LA Animal Hospital. The people were really nice. They diagnosed my cat for having a blockage no x-rays were done to determine the blockage. They put a caterer on my cat and he was urinating properly in the bag. They charged me over $2,000 dollars for the stay, treatment and medication. They were saying that it was mandatory that my cat needed surgery or he would not live. That would cost another extra 2,800 for the procedure so we were looking at $5,200 plus medications. They also mentioned that they would treat my cat for ear mites which he had. It was an extra $75.00 which they never did. I took my cat out of there and went home to Seattle.I took my cat to his regular vet and he drained the bladder with his bare hands and took X-Rays to see if he had any cr more
